So I realized that out of the 10 villager limit, I can only think of 6 or 7 'must have' residents for my town, and I'm thinking I might just rotate in whoever seems interesting for the remaining slots.

It'll be a first for me but I've been having fun meeting new villagers in this game so far, and hopping around finding them on island tours is actually pretty fun (if you're just looking for someone neat and not stressed about finding that one dreamie ... lol)

Have you guys tried this out? I feel like a lot of people have a set list of ten dreamies, so it doesn't seem too common.

Yes, me too! It's a freeing feeling tbh. I like to give villagers I've never had before a chance and I've been playing since gamecube. If I don't like 'em I let 'em move out. Simple as that. You never know just who you might get attached to without originally seeking. It's great.

I want to do this!! I think it's a great idea to meet new villagers. I probably will rotate Wolfgang and Kyle's spots each 2 or 3 months, just because there are a lot of great villagers out there.

This is my problem! Most of mine I want to keep but I miss meeting others naturally on islands. It was fun as long as I had no expectations. I let someone go today and hopped to 8 islands. I was able to find Frobert and I know my cousin wants him so he is moved in. Hopefully he will want to take him from me!

Yeah, I've already encountered a lot of new villagers I never had in New Leaf, and its been tons of fun! So I definitely want to meet more, theres a lot of villagers I didn't even know about before lol.

I never really go to the islands unless I am villager hunting cause it seems like a waste :x but yeah, hopping without expectations is fun. Thats nice of you! I think the ones I let leave I'll do giveaways for, or maybe just trade them for a small amount of NMT so I can hop a bit and find someone. I don't really like the idea of charging but grinding the tickets kinda sucks cause I've been trying to buy stuff to decorate my town with haha.

Ha yeah a while ago I gave away Lolly to start hunting again because I’m too lazy to wait for people to bid these days lol

I’ll do this but I’m having a hard time letting them go. I feel like it’s not yet time somewhat. Maybe once I get their photos I’ll be willing to part with most except for my must haves.

I've considered doing something similar to this. I'd probably wait until I had the amiibos of my favorite villagers first before attempting it though. I like island hopping too! It's fun to see who you run into.

I'm doing this as well! There's only a few villagers that will be staying forever on my island but one of my favourite things when I was playing NL was having new villagers move in after becoming bffs with them and then moving away (I didn't participate in villager trades at all then). I'm trying to recreate that feeling on my island so I'm pretty happy if villagers cycle out. Sticking to 10 villagers only is too restrictive haha

I haven't gotten any photos yet, but I might of some that I really like before I let them go. But I also feel like I'll have a decent chance of seeing them again if I really miss them so I'm not too worried. I'm glad they removed the 16 villager cycle before you can find a past villager, Makes the game soo much less stressful than new leaf haha.

I remember lurking on the cycling threads for New Leaf and picking up villagers that were going to be voided, it ended up being how I met a lot of my faves! I haven't been trading villagers in NH yet though, I think I'd rather just see who I find and enjoy it. I sometimes wish we could have more than 10 villagers but I also feel like finding the 10 villagers everyday to get my nook miles task complete is already hard enough lol

Yes I'm doing this as well! I only have maybe 5 permas planned in total. That lets me cycle around the other 5 slots. I get to meet lots of different villagers I've never met before in any of the past games, it's really fun and I get to collect many more photos this way too.

Yup, I'm doing this with my villagers too! I couldn't ever be set on 10 dreamies for years, because I want to experience a ton of them :)

I have pictures of 8 of my current and past villagers so far, so I'm happy to have them move away when they're ready to. I'll only be keeping a couple of them permanently but the plan is to meet new villagers all the time.

Aww somehow I think you picking up voided villagers is really sweet. My NL villagers were never the popular ones (minus Marshal) and I remember putting up my villagers on either this forum or another one and I would be really sad since they ended up being voided after I became best buds with them.

I sometimes want more than 10 villagers too, but just trying to track down all 10 on my island at once can be a mission hahaha

It was fun! I still feel bad seeing villagers get voided, but its pretty rare I have a slot open on my island to take anyone, since I get really excited and find a new villager almost immediately when I do. 😅 Most of my faves are I guess what are considered B-tier villagers? Though I also love Marshal, the idea of a smug squirrel is just really fun I think. (Julian is also great!)

Yeah, I'm really behind on the talk to everyone challenge cause I wasn't trying to complete it for a while. Its also hard for me to decide where to put all the villager plots since I want to lay my town out in a more natural sprawled out way, its taking me a long time to develop my town so in the meantime they're all clumped together in the corner of my map and its kinda chaotic.

I have a dreamie list for 6 villagers right now, (4 of my villagers im keeping in my town forever) but i have a backup of a ton of villagers that i'd be happy to welcome into the other 6 spots after i get tired of those villagers!

definitely! i don't have a set 'dreamie' list, though i have my preferred villagers since i got attached to them in new leaf. i am definitely going to be rotating a few villagers out to see who else i can befriend, especially since island hopping and passing up so many cuties. i already made some new friends - i never imagined enjoying genji nor filbert as much as i am. i hope you encounter lots of cuteness with your 'rotating' plots.
i want their photos before they leave, though. i already missed out on kyle's TT^TT

Genji is really cool! I have Rudy's amiibo so I'm thinking of letting him move out to experience some other jocks too. I started with Mac and while at first I really didn't like him, he definitely grew on me (he's so derpy lol)
Aw! Maybe you will meet Kyle again :) I've never had him but I've always been interested in him, he seems cool!

Even back in Wild World and New Leaf, I've had no dreamies, and it's the same with New Horizons for me. Of course, I have villagers I'm particularly fond of, so I will likely keep them for as long as I'm still playing the game. (For now, they are Claude, Zucker, Paula, Rolf and Raymond.) But there are always 4 or 5 I will be switching out from time to time.

There are so many villagers in the game I want to meet! And there's no one species or personality I dislike or won't have. Island hopping to meet new potential neighbours is so much fun. So far, I've had Diva, Celia, Beardo and Julia move out. Boone, who is one of my first two starter villagers, will probably be the next one to move. He's my only jock, so I'll need to get another jock. I'm looking forward to the search just thinking about it.

I would do this if I had their amiibo cards. Actually Inhad this in mind for quite a while now but amiibo cards are needed for my situation. This way if I wanted a villager I previously had back then I can just use their amiibo. Hunting for villagers is a pain.
