Has your New Leaf game ever crashed randomly?

my new leaf game crashed completely randomly yesterday while entering one of my villagers houses. i completely panicked and modded my spare 3ds, created a save state of the game, backed it up to my pc, and got it to work with a new leaf rom via citra from 12am to almost 3am. (very calm and rational decision making here)

but has this happened to anyone else here as well? only thread i could find here was one from 2017, and then another on gamefaqs from 2013, and couldn't really find a solid reason as to why. my game is a physical copy, bought firsthand, and has seen a lot of wear and tear over the last 11 years (12 next june!), with especially frequent use since mid-2022. just wondering if anyone else has any similar experiences and what might be the reason

A few times, yeah. But it’s probably just my 3DS and not an issue with the game. By crash, you do mean the game just randomly froze, right? If that was the case, I don’t think anything should have happened to your data, so you shouldn’t need to worry. If it becomes a recurring issue, then it’s probably an issue with the 3DS, but if it’s only that game, then backing up might be a good idea.

I don’t think it crashed in nl for me. But I had another game on the 3ds and it crashed.

It can happen if the game card is wearing out or the slot for it in the 3DS is dusty or something. This can happen with any game, pretty much.
I have a few regular DS games that have difficulty working because of frequent use over the years. Usually me blowing onto them works, but I have heard that can actually damage them more.

My game froze a few times before while doing the game link feature with HHA. At least it doesn’t cause you to be chewed out by Resetti for it happening during that part of the game.

It's only happened when the game cartridge wasn't perfectly fit

My game crashed back in February, during a game of Desert Island Escape. It didn't just crash the mini game, it took New Leaf down with it. The worst part is that I had just earned a villager's photo (right before starting up D.I.E.) and I hadn't saved my game. I'm still trying to earn that photo (again), seven months later.

It's Inkwell, the Splatoon-themed octopus. He's been in my town for four years, and I'm still trying to get his photo. If/when he does give it to me, I'm definitely saving my game immediately.

only when i don't place the cartilage correctly. one time, i dropped my 3ds and the game popped out and crashed

I never had mine crash before but my friend did have it crash on her 3DS I can’t remember what happened though.

my main copy is digital, so if that ever crashes, I have far bigger problems than just new leaf

Luckily it has never crashed! That would be a shocker to me if it did!

not to me yet, but I did have New Horizons crash once, when I was entering the airport a few weeks/months after launch. Thankfully, autosave saved my butt, and it never happened again...

It only happened to me once a few years ago, I was loading up my save data and it crashed while I was talking to Isabelle. It hasn't happened since then thankfully.

The only crashes I have ever experienced with my 3DS were in HHD or exposure to my iPad.

When I played Happy Home Designer and scanned a Welcome Amiibo card it would crash, I think it confuses the game as it reads Animal crossing but doesn’t have data for those villagers. I just wondered what would happen lol

Otherwise, if my 3DS is super close or on my iPad the screens go completely black but won’t close the game. They turn back on when I move it away.

I don’t think so but it’s probs more common now that a lot of the 3ds’s are older
