It depends. I usually start with handheld and then dock it once the charge is about to run out. Sometimes the ingame activity I’m doing will determine whether I play handheld or docked. Fishing? Handheld for accuracy. Landscaping? Docked for brainstorming on my TV.

Handheld.

Our TV is too old to support the tech that the Switch needs. Moreover, I live with my family and we have the one television for all of us. It wouldn't be fair for me to be sitting and playing all the time when we could be watching something we'd all enjoy. When my family is busy, if I had a TV that could support it, that's when I'd be playing docked, but since everyone is working from home right now, it really wouldn't be appropriate to be playing on the TV while people are trying to get stuff done!

I use to play both because I had to share the TV but ever since my bf got a monitor to play I started playing strictly docked. I love playing it docked because I hate holding it and I use a controller

O lawd maybe I'm showing my ancient oldness at 34 but I'm getting a headache just imagining trying to read everything on the tv @.@ Plus with handheld I don't have to bicker with my husbo over tv rights, we can peacefully share and everything is so much more serene hahaha!! It's actually super pleasant to do all my island landscaping while he rolls through the FF7 remake *w*

Handheld when I want to watch TV at the same time or I don't want to sit infront of the TV, docked the rest of the time which is most of the time because the game looks awesome on a larger screen. The best thing about the Switch is this feature to be able to do both.

I mainly play it docked. But tonight I decided to hang out in my office and my Switch was dying so I docked it and now I'm playing on my desktop monitor lol

Well, since I have a Switch Lite, I can only play in handheld mode. Then again, I prefer to play in said mode, so even if I had a regular Switch, I wouldn't play on the TV at all.

Most of the time I play it docked. I enjoy the bigger screen and playing with the controller. My switch is set up to my second monitor, I can browse videos and stuff while playing (especially handy when doing mindless terraforming for a long time). The sound from both monitors comes out of my headset so I can enjoy AC NH and whatever is on my PC at the same time.

I bought a Switch Lite specifically because I don't have a TV and knew I would never play docked even if I did. So far no regrets!

100% docked. The game looks great on my TV and it puts less strain on my eyes.

I‘ve only used handheld mode once for a trade because they messaged me while I was just getting into bed. 😅

handheld for me. i’m one of those 🤡 who literally bought a lite just for this game. i didn’t have a reason (or in this case i guess a game) that i desperately needed a brand new console for prior to NH. loving my cute yellow switch though 💛

Handheld mostly. I like using the TV but I don't have one in my dorm room so I can only dock it when I'm back home.
Love using both though. ❤️

I would say it's probably 85/15 Docked/Handheld. I just like seeing the game on my TV while Docked while Handheld. It's great seeing it on a bigger picture.

I never play docked since I already have xbox and ps4 plugged into the TV and usually fire those up for youtube, Netflix in addition to games. Probably should have gotten a switch lite but I was deterred from it because of the fear of joycon drift

I play handheld, mainly because it's the safer option in my house - I have a cat who loves cords. I'm not risking either her (don't really want a bbq'd kitty) or my system. She can't get at where the plug is right now.

I have the lite so handheld is my only option lol, I actually don't mind it tho bc it's $100 cheaper and im not too picky with playing it on the TV so it was a perfect investment for me :)

When I first started playing, I played the game cube one (I forget the name!) on the TV. Then I started City Folk. So I was always used to playing on the T.V. I got Wild World late and barely played it, but then I got New Leaf and got used to playing it on the handheld screen. So when I got ACNH I mostly played on the handheld way for a bit, then tried it on the T.V and I love both methods, tbh. I can't believe we ever played on the 3ds/ds though, to be honest with you, trying to figure out how I ever saw anything lol
