I prefer neighborhoods! I have all of my villagers on one side of my island and they each have a yard that's tailored to them. There's community areas around the neighborhood like a pond and picnic area
I originally had my villagers spaced out around my island but ended up creating a small neighbourhood because I kept having to run around looking for them. Now I have a lot more space on my island to put up what I want
mine are all in a neighborhood that takes up 1/4 of my island. It is heavily decorated, I do not want them scattered. I walk around my island enough .-.
One big neighborhood for me, I previously had them split 6/4 due to space issues but I decided to go ahead and terraform the area so I now have enough space to put all 10 of them in close proximity.
I'm still in the process of moving houses, and should be done by Friday!
I've seen many YTers make organized neighborhoods for their villagers and that's looked nice to me, and I sort of have it like that for my snooty girls (it just seemed to fit them more)... but for everyone else I kinda have them spread out a bit... yet still generally close together. I felt bad having some out in the 'hinterlands' so far apart from the rest so I ended up moving a bunch of them somewhat close to each other in a general sort of vicinity yet with some space to spare between. It just feels better that way, providing some community. Avery's is kind of farther, though, as he's in my crappy desert biome (PLEASE devs make paths blend in together properly and allow us to place them underneath buildings, objects, etc., I'm begging you). I have Fang up kinda in a mountainous area near a waterfall and Molly has her own little area by a river near Fauna. My island is supposed to be more wilderness-y and I like placing particular villagers in areas kinda sculpted to their characters so the more spread out positions kinda makes sense for mine I suppose.
I currently have them spread out in pairs of 2-3 next to each other, but the pairs are never too far away from eachother (so like, 2 neighbours, space, 2 neighbours)
I make 2 villagers share a front yard, and I love how the houses look next to each other! their personal yards aren't very big but they are big enough imo and very cute!
I really want more space outside for other stuff, so I have been wondering about putting them all together in a neighborhood, but it always feels a little
clustered to me, and I like running around my island and seeing al the little pairs of houses next to eachother, so I think I'll just keep doing that.
The only thing that bothers me is when their houses don't look cute next to eachother, currently have that issue with Agnes
as her house is black and it is really cool looking but it doesn't fit with any of the other more cute looking houses >.<
I did make a neighborhood it in New leaf (I placed costum paths everywhere so that the houses landed right where I wanted them) and I had them aligned,
it looked nice but because we now have all this room for outside furniture I think having their houses spread around just feels more natural and cute, but neighborhoods can also be really cute if you give them enough space.. ahh can't decide!
I have my villagers fairly spread out across my island. I do prefer it this way, since it just feels more organic and rustic to have them spread out and not be in close proximity to each other, rather than having them all clumped together in a neighborhood (although I have seen some good looking neighborhoods!).
I like the neighborhood and yards look but I think clumping houses together works great to make places feel larger and crowded. Very good if you're going for the city or town looks! It's something that has always stuck out to me in the DQ games
It's spread out but has a little order to it if that makes sense. For example, I have 3 villagers on my top section together in the same pathway, I have 2 villagers bottom left, one on each side by the shore, two by the centre (starting 2 plots) and one by Able Sisters, none of them are far away from each other, and I kind of like the randomness persay of where I place them as it keeps the island looking a little rural.
