Do you prefer your villager's houses clumped together in a "neighborhood" area or spread across your island?

I always like how the neighborhood areas look on other islands so that's what I'm gonna try to go for I figure out where I want to put them.
I kinda want to give all my villagers unique yards but it takes up so much space so I might have to consider spreading them out instead.. dunno yet @_@

I have a little plaza of 6 and then the last 4 are sorta spread out below that in themed areas (cemetery for lucky, desert for ankha, beach for marina, and forest for zell). I still tried to give them all a decent amount of yard space though to make sure they have enough to individualize them. The super structured neighborhoods with small 3x3 yard plots give me a little anxiety for some reason lol

Well I like having my villagers be in a neighborhood simply because I like having structures be uniform. Plus it really looks nice ^^. My neighborhoods are split into a left and right wing section that contains 5 houses each!

I have my villagers spread out in clumps of 2-3 and I plan on giving them all decorated/fitting front yards. The big neighborhood concept was never my cup of tea, though I’ve seen several execute it quite nicely. I think having them spread out is just reminiscent of the original Animal Crossing and it seems a little more natural to me. I do really like the idea of each one of them having “neighbors” though, which is why I have them in smaller groups~

I currently have 2 houses behind my house and those are my two starters, and the rest of them I have in a (really messy and unplanned rip) neighborhood. I think having clumps of neighbors spread out looks nice, but my villagers are always kind of around each other, which I think is cute ;w; and having them in neighborhoods I think gives more room to design your island in others ways :3

edit: Maybe I'm partial to them all being near each other because in my NL town I would have villagers far away from the rest that I never got to see :c because they never went to the main areas where everyone else was

I thought I liked little neighborhoods [tightly packed] ... but I think clustering in smaller groups of like ... two each makes more sense for me [and maybe a couple of stragglers]. Currently reforming things to reflect that. :D

I have mine in their own neighborhood so that I can have more room to play with the rest of my island. My current plan right now is that the front half of the island is developed (it's where we all live and where all the buildings are) and the back of the island is wild with lots of little "secret" areas.

I'm not sure which category I fall into, I have my houses spread around the island but in clumps of 2/3.

At first I had them even more spread out but I kind of like having them organized a bit.

My villagers are somewhat spread out and I have a goal of giving each of them nice yards. What I am trying to avoid is that horrible phenomenon of seeing the player’s McMansion at the end of a mile of gold roses and on the top of 5 waterfall mountain while the villagers are all squished into a tiny cement covered suburb.

I suuuuper like my neighborhood. My house is located at the north end, and I love passing all the villagers’ houses and stopping in to say hi every morning and evening. It’s actually the part of my island that I’m most proud of rn. I need to take some pictures!

I have streets, so kinda like in neighborhood clumps. I was actually planning on giving the street names too. I broke mine up into 4 sections of 4, 2, 2, 2 for the housing and I have my house on its own street.

Just gotta come up with FF7 themed street names.

I have 4 villagers in an area near the shops. 2 close to the resident services. 2 housed closely together and 1 near them. And the last one next to my house.

I don't like the idea of ALL of them in one neighborhood... seems kind of boring :(

Are you gonna create a Wall Market area? :D hehehe

I had them in a residential district at first but I changed it to be more spread out so I can give them themed yards. I like it more this way. It feels natural and I can change the theme of the yard as villagers move in and out of my island.

Oh good idea. Hm I assume I could make my plaza wall market lol since I made a New Leaf style market street. Thanks for this idea, going to see what I can do with this.

This is my dilemma now. I can't decide whether I want to clump them into a neighborhood or spread them out. I know I can move them around anytime but it gets so costly if I am constantly moving their houses. I like the idea of spreading them out as it can give sections of the map a different personality based on the villager. Gahh, too indecisive at the moment.

No worries! It's so cool how some people theme their islands around other games or series they like! Post photos when done :D

The neighbourhoods look really good but mine are always spread out cos I'm lazy and I just be dumping them anywhere and everywhere

Definitely clumped! I did split them though - so 5 on each area. 🙂 It’s just easier to navigate and I like that certain villagers bond and have the funniest convos when they’re close to each other.

I kind of have Both?
I like everyone to have a neighbor, even if it’s just w houses near-ish to each other. But in total I have 4 smaller neighborhoods!

1) I have a tiny forest neighborhood with 2 villagers in the mountain
2) A 3 villager sort of suburbs situation with big yards all on a pretty street across from a big park/playground
3) a mini downtown neighborhood where I live with 2 other villagers( my faves get these spots<3)
4) an “Uptown” kinda fancy beachfront neighborhood with my last 3 villagers

I like doing multiple smaller ones because it makes the map feel more full and well rounded than squishing 5+ Villagers into one or 2 little corners, you know?
But it also lends itself to good& easier landscaping because you aren’t just working with big empty areas all over the place, you have houses to fill things in~
