It certainly influenced my Christmas wish list, lol. I want a LOT of the new villagers, and buying Amiibo figures and cards are the only way to go.

Well played, Nintendo. Well played.

Yes, I had never heard of Amiibos before the update and now I have 4 figures and a 5 packs of cards. I'm actually going to buy more today.

Before the update, I had no amiibo figures or cards (aside from my 2 favorite villagers whose cards I bought awhile ago for coolness). Now I have about 30 cards, and 5 figures and that's only a start. I'm going to be adding to this collection. Ugh, the update was free, but it's actually costing me money anyway. -.-

I didn't have the game before the update, but because of the amiibo things you can do I have already bought two figures and am gonna buy some more cards sometime later!

At first, I didn't really care, and figured Nintendo was looking for another way to make (even more) money. But I did some research out of curiosity, and got tempted, seeing how cheap some villagers I wanted were going for.

Let's just say that I have a small collection of cards now, and don't plan on stopping until I've tracked down most, if not all the ones I'm looking for. Of course, the last time I was into card-collecting was with Pokemon/Digimon cards when I was a kid....

It helps that I bought HHD that was bundled with an amiibo reader as well!

yeah, I thought they all had RV's at first so I spent all of my money and now need to buy the welcome amiibo instead

I never liked amiibo, and since the beginning, I have felt like it was a desperate way for Nintendo to rip people off by forcing people to pay twice for certain content (probably motivated by poor Wii U sales). I've never been a fan of locking content that's present in a game behind a paywall. While the situation is a bit different for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, in that the new content is part of a free update, as opposed to being present in the original game, it hasn't changed my general opinion on amiibo. I still don't feel like shelling out money for an NFC reader as well as overpriced cards that don't even guarantee that I will get the villagers that I want. I don't like being ripped off like this. I'll just find other ways of getting the new villagers, if I really want one in my town that badly.

I already had the NFC reader from when I got HHD, and a good stack of cards. But this update makes me want more. And I've bought my first figurine (Celeste, my favourite) because I hit a wall in puzzle league and needed a booster. I've also specifically bought the Elise amiibo card, because I lost her once and she's my number 1 snooty. And I got the Sanrio pack, because how couldn't I (Chai is moving in tomorrow!).

I'm painfully aware that this is a thinly veiled ploy to get us to buy merchandise, and it's working. But it's all optional and it's all very, very cool. And I like Nintendo, so all is forgiven.

For sure! I love the move in feature. I started collecting cards before the update slowly but now I love collecting. Got a lot of packs to open for Christmas. XD

My boyfriend and I had Happy Home Designer from the start, so we bought each other a pack or two for fun or for a present. We also had a couple amiibo figures we had gotten for $1 on clearance from this Japanese retail site. After that, we didn't really buy anymore because we felt guilty spending money on cards we felt we couldn't really do much with. When we heard about the update we were thrilled we could actually put the amiibo to good use, so we bought more. We got quite a few packs and a couple more figures now so I think we are good, though I cringe at the amount of money we put into the cards. It was fun opening them because it brought back nostalgia and also because we used to collect cards when we were young. :)

I was not going to buy them. No way, no how. Somehow, I ended up with all the AC figures, and I'll be getting 3 packs of welcome amiibo cards in the mail in January.LOL. I also made a cute Christmas display of the figures in my kitchen. They're all sitting around this cute Christmas tree on my counter.. So, not only did I buy some, I'm also showing them off. They are really cute though, and a bit addictive.

Aww that's a good way to display them! I'd love to do that if I get more. I've only got 1 amiibo figure at the moment. :>

I might! I've really wanted to collect the cards since the update but I don't have the NFC reader & I still have the old 3DS XL so ;3;

I had bought a ton of cards earlier to use with HHD and amiibo festival, and I eventually bought all the figures I could get my hands on. Now I regret buying them at full price, given what they have dropped down to at nearly every store...

I had received a few Series 1 packs for Christmas last year in addition to HHD, but with the update, I've bought loads of packs and even started a binder to keep track of them all. I want to collect all of the cards c:
