I mean it would be kinda neat if you could change a villagers color if you had them obtained but if I wanted like Audie and she came in a light green and dark yellow colour scheme across an island, I would be devastated. I personally do not really like this idea, but maybe an improvement would be that rarely, that villager you find could have like a little aura around them or when you talk to them, a special shine pops up or something along those lines.

Just like how they do it in Super Smash, with the color variant. Would be pretty awesome. Or introduce an alter ego, so Lazy Beau is the OG colorway and then there's Jock Beau. To think of it, Nintendo is very familiar in re-hashing existing character design with different/themed overlay. I don't know if you all play their mobile game Dragalia Lost but they would have a character and different variants, like wedding/summer/etc.
