Why oh why isn't the camera setting customisable like in 99% of other games?

I'm so used to using inverted Y axis controls, that even with hundreds of hours under my belt, I'm still getting it wrong in this game.

Surely that's a basic requirement of any game?

Probably because we don't have 360 degrees of control. If we had a fully rotating camera, then I could see us having more camera controls.

We do inside houses.

I flail around all over the place trying to control the camera then!

You're right! I forgot about that. Well, who knows why we don't? It is probably just something they didn't think about adding because it is Animal Crossing and not an action adventure game.

It's not a "requirement". Camera settings depend on the gameplay. Animal Crossing doesn't really make full use of the camera all the time. Unless we're inside our and villagers' houses, as well as Photopia.

Animal Crossing doesn't even have option settings such as audio and controllers. It was all dependent on the console's system settings.

Maybe requirement was the wrong word. Expectation, then - given that almost every other game I've played in the past three decades has included these options.

It's just weird for a game not to include the option to be able to adjust these settings to something you're comfortable with, and it's really noticeable when you've spent decades playing that way and now have to try to adjust. Shooting stars are no fun for me! 🤣

What's ironic about this is that Nintendo conditioned me to be this way - back in the N64 era, most of their games had inverted camera controls as the default.

Thats just how they wanted the game to be played, if you look at hacks online about having full camera view, you will see why we don't have a full 360 degree of camera rotation, it probably would be a lot more intense on the game having to render everything in with all the high quality models, textures and all that data

that video shows you what the game would be like sorta with a really customizable camera. It just makes it look so wrong and out of place, I find the camera angle to be fine where it is considering its not that much of an action game and could confuse the target demographic of casual gamers or people new to video games having to constantly deal with the camera.

I don't want full camera control.

Just the ability to choose inverted Y axis for the limited control we have. Like almost every other game I've ever played.

Heck, it was Nintendo who made that the standard. For them to not only switch the default but also remove the ability to change to the setting they trained me over decades to feel comfortable with seems odd!

It’s strange that we have 360 degree view in our houses but we can’t control the camera? I really wish that we could move the camera over infinitely instead of the small amount we can shift it. Like when a villager you’re trying to take a picture with just... moves out of the frame TwT

I get why we can't control the camera beyond the three angles available when we're outside on the island - the whole game world is curved to accommodate this, and the buildings all have entrances at the bottom so they fit into this design choice as well.

My issue is not being able to change the way we control the camera movement. I just want to be able to invert the Y axis so that when I angle the stick forwards it looks down...like I can in almost every other game.

As I've already said, it's so strange to me that the only reason I'm conditioned to play this way is down to Nintendo's default camera controls from the early days of 3D gaming and now they've completely blocked that option!
