With today's Nintendo Indie World and Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase rumoured to be the last one focused on the original Switch, speculation is heating up! Word on the street (PH Brazil) is that Nintendo might have adjusted their plans, moving up today’s presentation to make way for a big reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 in September.

What are your thoughts?
  • Do you think we’ll finally see the next-gen console in September or October or later on?
  • And what does this mean for the future of Animal Crossing? Could we see Animal Crossing 6 unveiled in the coming months to rally fans behind the new console?

Who is PH Brazil? :0
Right now, the most accurate active Nintendo leaker (link to his Famiboards account) we have.
  • Back in January (or early February), he revealed that Nintendo’s plans for their new console had shifted from a late 2024 release to early 2025
  • Then, in a mid-August, he reported another change: Nintendo had originally planned to hold presentations in September, but these—now known as Nintendo Indie World and Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase—were moved to late August. This adjustment was made to clear the way for the announcement of the Switch 2
  • He also said during a podcast that this was probably the last [podcast] before we get Nintendo Switch 2 news.

It’s a Twitter user who I think has accurately predicted Nintendo Directs in the past, so people are trusting them for when Nintendo Direct info.

Anyway, tbh, I don’t really think that they’ll actually announce the console in September, but maybe closer to the end of the year, so December. Then in March they’ll probably give more info on it and release the actual console… right now I think in early 2026. I don’t think that Animal Crossing will be one of the first titles to be announced (I think that anything Mario related will be their top priority), but it will most likely be announced at least a year after release.

Edit: realized I never answered the question. I’m not the one that actually buys my consoles (pains of being a teenager that doesn’t have a stable source of income TT) so I probably won’t be getting it that soon after release. If they release a new game that looks really interesting I might want it more, and especially if the Switch 2 is backwards compatible.

Not really, I don't know nothing about the Switch 2 as I don't believe in rumors. I feel for them too many times I swallowed my pride on it.

I can wait, then we'll see.

Floatopia has me excited about what Nintendo could accomplish in Animal Crossing 6 with a much more powerful console.

Hopefully it's announced soon. If it is coming out 2025 I'd be surprised if it wasn't announced between September and early January.

I still need to finish TOTK but other than that I barely touch my switch atm. My main games I'd play were Pokemon and ACNH but ACNH got very tiresome very quickly for me and theres only so much of rubbish Pokemon games I can play.

I sort of hope ACNH was a tester/practice of the transition back to console and the updates were seeing how to implement old features into the game. I very much want the next AC to include more of the features that we're used to seeing in AC from the get-go, even things as small as shop upgrades, because ACNH just didn't hit for me tbh.

Ooooo I don't think I'm ready for Switch 2 😭 It feels too soon for me and I've spent quite a bit on the switch console so I was hoping it'd last a little longer (granted I did get my switch alongside ACNH in 2020 so I'm a little late). That being said, I don't think I'll be getting the console until they release a game I'm absolutely dying to play, like Splatoon or Animal Crossing. Both games feel too soon to have a sequel released anyway so I'm not super worried about joining in on the switch 2 hype. I guess I'll feel a little FOMO if they do release Pokemon ZA on switch 2 though lmao but then again I still have a number of games I'd like to play on the switch.

I think we still have another two years of the Switch before a successor is even announced. Nintendo seems to be highly intent on making the console the best selling of all time. It’s only about 12 million sales behind the PS2 and caught up to become the second best selling console (if one doesn’t count the DS and the Switch as a handheld) in only a couple of years. Nintendo obviously isn’t going to stop production when they’re so close to finally overthrow Sony as a form of revenge for backstabbing the company back in the 90s.

Nintendo said it themselves last Spring, they will announce a successor console to the Switch before the end of this fiscal year. So there is only an handful of months left before this fiscal year is over.

While I do think they’re still trying to get that last 12 million, how do you explain this?

I didn't even know that there was another one in the works? I'll probably pass, I have too many games to play on the current switch. Lol.

I am absolutely ready. Now, I don’t know if I’ll buy it right away, but it’s been over a year of directs that mostly amount to various remakes—it certainly feels like Nintendo has already put all of their energy elsewhere. I’m excited to at least learn about the Switch 2 and hear what games are planned for the initial release.

Not really...unless the next AC game is one of the launch games for the Switch then maybe. There are still many Switch games I want to play again and many I still haven't played or bought.

I’m not ready for a switch 2. I got too much on my backlog and I’m perfectly happy with the switch. Plus, I just got this switch only a couple months ago so I want to make the most of it still.

Despite my horrible Switch backlog, yeah. I'm ready. It's time, by the time the Switch successor comes out I'm going to have had it as my main Nintendo console for longer than basically every other Nintendo console I've owned aside from the Wii, at nearly 9 years (I got a Wii U way, way too late). I'm ready for the big 40th anniversary Mario game, and I'm ready for a new Mario Kart game that isn't just Mario Kart Tour tracks cheaply ported into 8 Deluxe, and I'm ready for Animal Crossing: New Discourse (because I feel like whatever they decide to do, it's gonna cause New Discourse). It's time for Switch Successor September (or October, idk), baybeeeee!

Yes and no. I'm ready for it in the sense that I'm looking forward to new games in the series that I enjoy, such as a new 3D Super Mario game, but on the other hand, I do still have a backlog of Switch games I need to work through

I'm ready for a new switch (despite the fact that I'm way too attached to my current one). I'm hoping we FINALLY get a new Nintendogs game on the Switch 2, but that's basically wishful thinking at this point

Absolutely not ready. I won't be able to afford one. I have more important things to worry about than that, too...
