i just found out that just because i make a 2nd character, doesn't mean that i'll have new slots for QR codes. i guess we already have more than new leaf obvi, but isn't a huge part of new horizons to customize and design? i'm unable to get more paths because some requires left/right/bottom/top total of 6+ already, anyone did some tricks here? another question: if i already put a design on a wall, or signboard will it change if i overwrite the qr?

how do people who share islands actually deal with this????

I was super sad and disappointed that the second character can't have a new slots of QR codes... I need a lot of QR codes to customize the inside furnitures, outdoor furnitures, the paths of ground etc... ;-;

me too.... not sure if it's a memory issue or they're trying to limit us. but i'd go with the latter, i doubt the memory couldn't handle it as our whole island we can place any item, without limits unless ofc it's full.

there are a lot of creative paths out there with sidings, so that includes left right top bottom etc. we easily use plenty of slots with just 1 set of design.

it sucks that you have to share pattern space with other characters - imagine actually utilizing the 8 character limit and having to have them all share pattern slots 0-0

The thing to consider is not local system memory but the amount of data that needs to be transferred anytime you visit somebody's island or they visit yours. All of those custom patterns and data needs to be sent and stored for the other system to see your island/what you're wearing, and I'm guessing past a certain point there's potential for issues with it.

so i guess since the furni data is already in our games, it isn't a heavy as to let's say, custom patterns that's different for every islands. makes sense. i guess they opted for a bigger slot for the island itself as opposed to having each slot for a player, since there's 8 players maximum now.

Yeah; I don't even think that the patterns are the largest things to deal with because the data that they occupy is small, but I suppose there is a balance to pick up in the data transfer time when people are "flying" to your island. That screen already lasts for so long... couldn't imagine it being longer. 🤣

i share an island with my sister... and trust me it's a struggle when you have to share the space. all the pattern's for outdoor decor, including paths and stall designs, etc. are all fine, even though some paths take up so much room. but then it leaves VERY little space for other designs if we want to put up anything custom inside our own houses. i've decided to just use paintings to decorate the walls.

edit: also sable's patterns have helped me out quite a bit to free up some space for furniture custom designs, so at least there's that.

honestly.
I thought I'd cracked the code when I thought I'd just use pro designs as pathways too. nope. just for clothing.
there's no way I'm gonna be able to fit everything i want in the space we have :(
I mean thank god it's not the same as new leaf and all, but I still don't know how easy it's gonna be to work with this.

PLUS can you imagine if you had an annoying little brother/sister also using your switch with this system? they're literally allowed to delete and edit your designs even if they're not playing as your character. I mean come on man
