It happens so fast that my whole island now shares the same catchphrase! It is a bad one, too! I made Axels catchphrase bye because i want him to go away, but he took his revenge on me by infecting everyone else with it.
Yep I hate it too. I made cherry’s catchphrase ‘girlfriend’ and EVERYONE started saying it! Ugh, I like the girl characters saying it, but the boys? Ugh no.
Yeah... I’ll never forget the time in WW when I shared a town with my brother and he changed a villager’s catchphrase to ‘fart’ (he was like 7). Within a couple weeks every single villager was saying ‘fart’. It took aaaages to fix it.
In my island for some reason the one that picks all the catchphrases is Audie, it's like she's trying to stay trendy and it's kind of cute, though seeing her say Del's "chomp", Bam's "yay" and my old Stitches "stinky" (he was going to a friend, so it was a little joke between us) was quite an adventure
lmao i give all my villagers catchphrases that refer to me so like i gave raymond “my love” and julian “ma cherie” and diana came running up to me today and she had the catchphrase “ma cherie”
i find it funny right now but i can understand when you give a catchphrase to a specific villager and they spread it around
I never liked it in older games. It hasn't happened to me yet in New Horizons. I just hated it when it was a catchphrase specific to one animal and another animal would pick it up. Like my tiger saying moo is kinda weird.
It was kind of a sad realization in new leaf when I discovered that villagers can share catchphrases and they aren't actually unique per person. I think I had taught one of my cat villagers to say something cute like "nyaa~" and before I knew it, wolfgang was saying it too, hahahaha
Yes! I have Teddy using Beefcake as a catchphrase (my favorite nickname from Wild World - I always have my jocks call me that now), but it would just be weird hearing Marina or Tangy saying it. Then again, in NL, all my villagers (including adorable, sweet Lolly) were calling me Beefcake by the end, so I should be used to it by now.

Yep. The solution is to not give villagers catchphrases. Tell them you like their current catchphrase. They don't get angry at you for it. They actually get happy. So don't worry.

I had reneigh's phrase be "yeehaw" and now teddy and admiral say it too and i dont know if its a good thing or bad thing yet its just kinda funny right now lol
It only annoys me because I would like to get a ping to change it. Right now everyone is going around saying Clover. Which is fine. But I want to make it something different because I'm bored of it hah hah.
I like the catchphrase thing. It never bothered me before but it's not 3villagers now its everyone in a matter of two days. I think if happend slower in pervious games.

I literally don't care about my villagers not being 100% original, in fact I like giving them clothes and furniture items that I think will fit them and giving them new catchphrases and greetings and letting them call me nicknames! But I hate when they share catchphrases omg, Chief was saying chow because Zucker said it when I used to have him so when he asked me to change his catchphrase I changed it back to harrumph (yeah I know Isabelle could've reset it but I got lazy lol) and now I have Peanut saying harrumph... she's a peppy. She's talking like "OMG I'm totes gonna be famous one day because I'm the awesomest singer ever and we should totally practice being pop stars together because you're my bestie and your outfit is super adorbs, harrumph!" and it sounds way too weird. Portia is a dog and she picked up "mew" from Punchy. I hate it hdfgjkds.
I just noticed it today one of my villagers was copying a catchphrase I gave yesterday. I hope it won’t spread that far. I remember in acnl (long time ago) almost everyone in my town copied cube’s default catchphrase and I had to fix everyone’s catchphrase to their default.
