Anyone else excited for when this game loses popularity?

I don't have social media, so even tho I know about it, I really haven't felt the animal crossing hype outside TBT. My question is, has the game's popularity died down?

I have a memory of this aggressive, fast-paced spirit when New Leaf came out too. Am I the only one who remembers that or do I just have amnesia? I think with any game the energy of the community will be much louder in the beginning. Things die down over time withe more casual players. I'm really happy Animal Crossing is getting the attention it deserves. I do understand your point, though! I don't necessarily disagree with it.

But then again, I'm not on social media much and maybe because I'm only exposed to TBT that's why I don't really understand (I'm not dismissing, I just haven't experienced the craziness that people keep talking about).

I'm not particularly waiting for the popularity to die down but I am excited for the competitive aspect to be gone in recent time. I think people are too wrapped up in the aesthetics of their island versus someone else's and feels pressured to have an island just as beautiful or cool or what not or else they're not "playing the game right". Or people who only want Raymond or other popular villager just because.

I just want it to be chill, but not so cut throat

I’m happy the game is popular! Animal Crossing is not a competition, you can play it as slow or fast as you want which I appreciate.

It's not necessarily the fast paced players that bother me, but the general impatience. I don't know how many people I've seen that tt rushed through the game and then whine that there's nothing to do and the game is horrible and bad, completely ignoring that Nintendo clearly stated that we'll get free updates. Or on another forum, there was new thread every other day asking if Redd is bugged because he didn't show up for more than a week. Or the general "omg it will take me a year to get all the art!" - yes, that is the point.

I personally enjoy the hype, especially during this time when there isn't much else to do. It allows me to engage with more people that also enjoy the game and gives Nintendo more incentive to release more content. Sure, the hype will die down as it always does with new things, but hopefully a lot of people will stick around. For me, interacting with other players is a huge reason why I'm drawn to this game. I love seeing what other people have done with their islands, what items they have, etc. I also enjoy trading for items I don't have.

I love it being popular and hyped, but I can't wait for the hype to die down so we can all just play. I feel like I am racing against the clock to get items or villagers because my friends are, but that isn't my style, never has been. Its a personal feeling so I don't want the community to go anywhere, but I don't like feeling behind

i honestly really like that the game is more popular, though i am itching for the ridiculous pricing to drop a lot more. i was just trying to sell turnips, and there weren't many people that i could find selling on here, and all the good prices on discord had a million people in line or were asking ridiculous prices (seriously, 20 nmt or items that very few people have is kinda ridiculous, don't you think? per trip?), and i was so lucky to find raymond. basically, i'm excited for when everybody has a good amount of bells/nook miles stored up so that trading goes a lot easier. i don't mind the popularity of the game though, it's nice to have more people enjoy something that we love so much!

No. Not at all. I love the memes, I love how people are escaping to this little but blissful virtual world, I love that the creators of AC get the recognition they deserve, I love it all. I could see how it’s a lot because it’s very hyped up with everyone talking about it -as it should be- but as soon as you click that A button and start a day on your island, it’s just you and your island. It will forever be personalized to you no matter what. I don’t want it to be a secret. I like how it’s a worldwide favorite and everyone can indulge. And the fact we can indulge and be excited about it together? Magical.

honestly, i get what you mean! i feel like new horizons has hit the mainstream way more than any other ac game, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but...? i liked the quiet, calmer community from before. i think i've noticed a lot more negative facets of the fandom from new horizons compared to any other ac game which is definitely due to the rise in popularity. granted, i think it's great that so many more people are being introduced to animal crossing, but i don't really like seeing the community divided, which i feel like it definitely is in some ways.

tbh I can already tell the game is starting to slow down. As more and more people unlock terraforming and lose the game guidance, I suspect it'll continue to drop in rather large numbers as people that picked it up from the hype realize the game really wasn't for them. Hopefully they get a random spark of inspiration down the line and come back though~ AC ages incredibly well and it's always surprising how easy it is to be sucked back in / out.

I think some people have started to burn out from playing so much but I think in general it'll take a while for the hype to die down. People are still at home in quarantine and will still be playing for a while. I think if things like limited events or other things happen very often people will stay on for longer.

I think the thing I'm really looking forward to is for game "journalism" to stop publishing on the AC hype train. I saw SO many wrong things the first month of playing that was clear to me the "journalist" had never played an AC game or didn't do their due diligence (e.g. I saw it repeated many times that complaining to Isabelle moves a villager... uh nope). I really missing having my undiluted Google searches where I can get helpful results, gosh dangit.

no i hope not but i wish ppl who are bad and very toxic would forget abt the game i love ac and i hope it stays popular...

Haha, I think this is actually the most irritating aspect for me too. I remember the days when I could search something and come up with useful, accurate information from fans who played the game and had in-depth knowledge of how everything worked. Now I search and the first 5 pages of results are click-bait articles written by journalists who get even the basics wrong. Not even just the basics new to NH, but basics that have been in the series for years. I'm certainly looking forward to the day when all of them move onto a new topic.

Popularity is ok as it has more chances for trading and meeting people, but if there is unnecessary competition over islands and villagers, yeah, that being much less around would be great whenever the hype dies down a little.

I'm glad people recognize this game even more now, even my friend who hasn't played AC before wanted ACNH to be his first game on Switch

But at the same time, i lowkey want it to lose popularity as well since after the game release, the toxicity of this community increases
