Amiibo card prices...

I personally just purchased fan-made Amiibo coins on etsy for some of my favorites and they work great and they're really cute! If I had an android I'd definitely just make my own though!

Well, homemade ones work just as well, but for those who are picky with cosmetic imperfections, it might not be your thing. But homemade amiibos with NFC stickers tend to work wonders :>
I’ll try and find out how to make them homemade but I’m not too good at crafty stuff 😂

Honestly I feel like the coins are better for storage. But I'm also on the verge of moving onto a houseboat, so this may or may not be important for everyone, lol.

This is also true! Cards are kind of annoying and can get bent/etc. I just throw the coins in a little bag and put them in my nightstand, they take up like no room. I think a lot of artists do a really amazing job with the coins as well. Some do their own custom art/patterns for them and everything. I am happy to support small businesses/artists right now rather than some scalper on ebay lol

At this point it's just how economy works. Those that have struggled during the peak of Smash Bros amiibo know this well. If I had to take a guess the card prices will dip in 6 months or so, if you're willing to wait that long. As others have mentioned, there are custom cards but that's a morality debate that I don't want to dig in to. I got lucky recently and managed to buy 24 packs of cards (instead of 4) for 70 dollars due to an Amazon mis-shipment, and they just told me to keep the extras

I haven’t seen the coins really, I’m just gonna check everywhere now if the nook miles don’t work. I’m gonna go look on Etsy like everyone’s saying. The nmt people are paying is mad and the amiibo prices are even crazier so I think I’m left with just trying to avoid them and attempting to find some cheaper alternative like the coins or making my own

Yeah I thought about the morality but the prices are crazy and I don’t care right now 😂😭 I just want the villagers for some reasonable price

Yeah, ever since people found out you could buy NMT on ebay, people have been going crazy with bidding on villagers with NMT. Lol. Even people like Marshal who has an amiibo is going for 100+ tickets. Good luck finding the villagers you want!

Fair enough, if it wasn't for my OCD in wanting to finish an "original" collection, I'd be doing it too. I used to do that with Yu-Gi-Oh cards when I was like 10 tho lamo

Why not get yourself some NFC NTAG215 cards and print the character data on? Does this count as cheating?! Don't ban me lol

Yesssss! I love the ones with custom art. c: I like having nice art that I actually appreciate--prints are cool and all, but they end up living in my album and not really getting looked at.

This is making me wanna pick up some Spla2n amiibo coins. I never did get the witch outfit from the octolings...

I just bought a thingy to basically spoof any amiibos, and for less than 30 euros shipping included... hopefully it will arrive soon.

I bought 3 fan amiibos on Etsy a couple days ago for $10 USD each, not too bad! And I heard they work just as well so we'll see about that :)

I mean... they were produced super limited run. They're collectible. I really don't like using the term scalper for them. These cards came out a long time ago. Who is scalping? Scalping is buying something in demand for a quick turnaround. It sounds like none of you have ever bought Pokemon or Magic cards.

There's a world of difference between amiibo cards and Magic cards.

Magic cards are printed in a ridiculously bigger quantity. You would need to refer to Alpha up to Unlimited to see a print run as short as you have with amiibo cards.

Also, there's reprinting in Magic (outside of the reserved list). Most of Magic's more expensive cards outside of the reserved list aren't expensive because of their availability, but because of their value for tournament play.

And I wouldn't see a world of a difference between collectors and scalpers when most scalpers ARE collectors, in the first place. Also, nowadays the term "collector" became synonymous to "hoarder who buys things hoping to flip said things to make a profit", especially when it comes to gaming related material.

Nintendo is known for making the life of their fanbase harder than it should be when it comes to buying their stuff. They purposefully shipped a ridiculously short amount of Amiibo in order to make them feel more desirable, thus, using the Fear of Missing Out to both drive people insane while trying to buy an accessory (as it does have an in-game function, which means, amiibo are nothing more than physical DLC) and boosting the image of the company, seeing all the stories about huge lines in front of stores and how fast amiibos were being sold out online.

I've seen fanmade versions on AliExpress as well, and for cheaper prices than on Etsy (though not as pretty, of course). The shipping prices seem to be much more favourable, but depending on where you live in the world, it might take longer to get to you.

I haven't bought fanmade ones on any site, but always check the reviews to make sure that the NFC actually works before purchasing!

Tier 1 villagers fetch a premium, that's for sure. But there has been a surge in prices all across the board. Pre NH, you couldn't give Barold away. Now, you're looking at a minimum of $4.

And yes, there's a huge morality issue with regard to the hacked versions, but if you're cool with it, then that's the route you could go.

The Welcome Amiibo Cards are also pretty expensive. I was kinda glad to purchase Gonzo for „only“ 50 Dollars, which is 40 Euros. Other Sellers wanted 100 - 110 Euros! for that card lmao. Hell nah!

I know I could have bought a Japanese or Fan made one, but I’m a sucker for Originals.

The normal Amiibo ones I wanted were also pretty cheap, because nobody gave a Crap for Rod or Jacques, when Wolfgang and Pietro exist, which are super overpriced. I bought them in Germany.

But I agree that there are probably better places to get them cheap. For me it’s kinda hard, when you live in Austria.
