The Hemingway Islands:My Extra Toes

Ernest Hemingway lived in a house on Key West island in Florida for eight years.During his time there it is said that a ship's captain gave Hemingway a white cat that had extra toes on his front paws-a polydactyl cat or as it has come to be known,a Hemingway cat.Today,over sixty Hemingway cats now live on the Hemingway Estate(it has been converted into a Hemingway museum),most being descendants of Hemingway's original white multi-toed kitty.For me,Animal Crossing towns and islands are like Hemingway cats.....you start with one and before you know it you have a whole mess of 'em.I already have journals for my islands of Chippo,Koolewong and Billington but this journal will chronicle some of the more interesting events from my other islands,or as I refer to them,my extra toes.In the past I posted these events on the Screenshots and Video Capture Share Hub but it doesn't feel like they belong there anymore.Anyways,enough of my yakkin'....let's get it started:

Every Jan.3,Joey the baby ducky has a birthday.His best pal Raymond was the Official Guest and lightened up the proceedings by wearing a pair of novelty glasses.....or are those his real glasses??

For a long time Megan was my villager on the bubble.Every time I saw her on my island I was reminded of what The Dread Pirate Roberts kept saying to Westley in A Princess Bride: "Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning." Of course I wasn't going to kill her but I was certainly going to replace her with a different villager.That was about three years ago and she's still here.That reminds me of a quote from another movie,A Bronx Tale: "Now youse can't leave."

I finally got to see the inside of Punchy's Snack Shack.Pretty nice.

I gave Filbert this A Tee in reference to Alvin and The Chipmunks because he's a squirrel that looks like a chipmunk only to find that chipmunks actually are squirrels,just a smaller variety of the species.So much for that attempt at subtle humor.Hmmm,since he's small and blue,maybe I can dress him up like a Smurf.........

Funny thing about the Smurfs...all the male Smurfs wear pants but no tops but in Animal Crossing the villagers can only wear tops or dresses but no pants.Hmm,dresses....Filbert might make a cute Smurfette.

Here are the citizens of St.Hubbins celebrating yet another new bridge.I've noticed that in group shots for this island the game always puts my girl cat trio together and places one of the tiny villagers in the back where they can barely be seen.Also,Punchy is the only villager not wearing a gifted item of clothing.Ah,well he's the new guy so I suppose we'll have to cut him some slack.

Obscure villager fun fact: Curly's eyebrows turn into a curly-Q when he gets upset.That is one intense hog.

Today is Festivale in the Animal Crossing world.I like it but I don't participate in it because I think Pave is kinda scary.

7:45 AM: I'm here at Kevin Bacon's place.It looks like he's up and at 'em so let's go inside........

7:46 AM: Kevin's in a cheery mood...but what's this?He's wearing a dance team jacket?It looks decent but I think he could use a bit more flash.......

7:50 AM: Seriously!Get that thing on and let's see how it looks.....

7:53 AM: Kevin refused to get up and model his new comedian's outfit.Come on,Kev....let's see those big jock muscles.....

7:55 AM: Now there he is!Walk it around,bud....show everyone that U.S.D.A. approved,100% grass fed physique......

10:55 AM: Kevin is walking around the island chowing down on a bowl of alphabet soup.

10:58 AM: Believe me,it is kinda fishy.Thanks for the tip,pal.

2:21 PM: Kevin is visiting the bug section in the so awesome museum.

5:35 PM: This is Kevin's free late afternoon exercise class.It's nice of him to perform this public service for our island citizens.What a thoughtful four-toed ungulate he is.

7:55 PM: Out for an evening stroll and still lookin' sharp.

9:35 PM: Groovin' to the golden tones of K.K. Slider.

12:35 AM: Out on a late night bug hunt with the elusive wharf roach as his quarry.

2:39 AM: Kevin's day is over and he's fast asleep.What will tomorrow bring?

The Island of Wagasi Semi-Annual Spring Cleaning

I did some tidying up on my sports themed island of Wagasi:

Since the island's resident Dalmation was singing into the record player instead of the microphone,I added another record player to see if she'll get centered the next time she starts crooning.

Here's the island's brand new volleyball court.

Some of the putting greens were getting a bit shaggy with excess flowers and weeds so I gave them a clean-up.

This is Sheldon,a villager I rarely see on other islands.I believe he's the only jock squirrel in the game so I suppose he's fairly unique but I think that since there are so many good squirrel villagers in NH he tends to get overlooked.

Who in the world would give a villager such a silly catchphrase?

Sometimes Nintendo gets the villager houses right.These interiors really go well with Hans Gruber and Portia respectively.

A Brief History of Starbug

Starbug(named after one of the spaceships from the Red Dwarf tv series)is my second New Horizons island.For some reason I don't play it as often as my other islands and I'm not sure why.Some of my favorite AC villagers live there.Anyways,here are some old screenshots of how the island started off:

This was the "starting five" of Starbug.It's funny that I had Nate's Amiibo card and was going to move him in anyways and he showed up on his own as my first lazy villager.Fate,destiny,etc.....

The first camper,which is usually a smug 99% of the time,was Gloria the snooty duck.I wasn't sure if this was a glitch or if there was a very slight RNG chance that you could get a different personality.However it happened,I must've liked her because she's still here.

Here's the big KK Slider concert.Res. Rep Jarupa is front and center.I got her name from a street address that was on a lot of the packages we got at the place I used to work at.

Starbug still in its pristine state,untouched by poor design choices and bad terraforming.Ah,Mira.....

Mira was one of my favorites in New Leaf with her cool house full of Astro Series furniture.What the bleep happened in New Horizons??Her NH house looks like something I might have designed.

Here's Jarupa in her Star Fleet tunic dress standing under the island's flag.Rd Dwarf and Star Trek.....together at last.

I had fun making these movie outfits for Jarupa.The Bride from Kill Bill Vol.1 and The Dread Pirate Roberts/Westley from The Princess Bride.

Was this real love or just bearly love?I had these two bears along with Tutu in one of my New Leaf towns.Three bears,eh?Coincidence?Nope.

This guy showed up in my campsite yesterday.He didn't say anything.....he just did a bunch of odd stuff.After he balanced a donut on his paw,he pretended to be encased in a glass booth and then acted like he was walking against a strong headwind.What a weirdo.

I read somewhere that rabbits are nocturnal and get most of their sleep during daylight hours.Well,I'm no zoologist but I'd say that's pretty accurate.

Hmm,are yetis also nocturnal?What do they eat?Do they really partake in Eastern meditation?Most importantly,do they really wear tuxedos?

I think someone here needs to shower more frequently.

I tried to create a slice of the Sonoran desert on my island but how can that be properly done without a real cow skull?In New Leaf the cow skull was an actual item you could get to decorate your town or house but in New Horizons,Nintendo wimped out and turned it into a hat,complete with stand.I live in the Sonoran desert and I've seen several cow skulls there but I've never seen any cow skull hats resting on a nice little stand(I did see a tattered pith helmet once).In New Leaf,I recall the immense pleasure of gifting one of my cow or bull villagers with their very own cow skull(ooo...remember the cowhide rug?)and they would always be so appreciative to receive such a nice gift.Nintendo also deleted the tumbleweed for New Horizons.I tried making one out of a bamboo sphere.I guess it looks ok if you've never seen a real tumbleweed.

Kiki's Visit

Kiki's Delivery Service came by for a visit.Yes,this is where I sleep at night...why does that seem kind of creepy?

I put that chair there just so Kiki could sit under her photo.Hmm,it seems that she hasn't changed her outfit in a while.

Some nitwit's put two dunnies in here.Crikey,one of them might be for washing your backside.

Oh,yeah.....I just got a new basement and it only cost me 2,498,000 bells!It'll be all mine in just 347 years.
