Mafia wins when they equal or outnumber town. Town wins by eliminating all mafia players in the game. 3rd party roles can win separately presuming Eleanor Lamb is able to survive the entire game.
In the event that Eleanor Lamb dies, 3rd party can only win if Subject Delta is able to kill all remaining players. Both town and mafia must eliminate Subject Delta to win.
Introduction:
Rapture was supposed to be a utopia full of only the elite, only the humans with exemplary skills that were perfect. It was created by Andrew Ryan, a wealthy man obsessed with perfection. The main issue was that there were not enough planned jobs or space for all of the workers that built the city. They soon became the poor, living it up in the bowels of Rapture. The cries and struggles of the poor were ignored by Andrew Ryan and the rest of the city's elite. The leader of the underground smuggling ring, Frank Fontaine, began to fund the research of a prominent scientist, Brigid Tenebaum. She had soon discovered that sea slugs could produce a substance that essentially allowed a person to completely bend DNA however they liked. She opted to call this substance ADAM. They created the Little Sister's Orphanage, a place where sea slugs were being implanted in the stomachs of little girls, exponentially increasing ADAM production. They became known as the Little Sisters.
Andrew Ryan had invited Sophia Lamb into the city to console citizens that were longing for the world above. She soon disagreed with the way that Ryan ran the city and spoke out against him. This caused unrest as people began to rally with Lamb and ended with her being thrown in jail. At this time, Fontaine Furturistics was producing ADAM on a massive scale, but tension in the city continued to mount. Ryan suspected Fontaine of many crimes and attempted to have him put in jail as well. This lead to a shootout, where Fontaine faked his own death and assumed the role of Atlas. Sophia Lamb had broken out of prison by brainwashing the other prisoners, then inciting them all to riot. The new Atlas promised the impoverished people of Rapture new life if they would only rise against Andrew Ryan. He pointed out all of the flaws in Ryan's "utopia" and painted out a better world for them. This all lead to the first riot on New Year's Eve of 1958. This was the start of the civil war, the beginning of the end for Rapture. This is where we are today.
Be warned - Mafia requires a time commitment. This generally depends on the player, but at minimum 30 minutes a day of solid effort is required. As part of the time commitment, Mafia requires a great deal of reading. Most people are actually quite poor at reading comprehension and playing Mafia is a great way to improve your reading ability, as well as your writing and ability to think and argue logically. In addition, Mafia is not for the faint-hearted or overly emotional. While not occurring every game, sometimes people can get into very heated arguments with one another. People can get very emotional playing Mafia, as it is a high-intensity endeavor. That being said, playing Mafia is an excellent way to develop thick skin, improve your patience, and make yourself a stronger person mentally.
How to Play Mafia for New Players:

- Townie
- Citizen of Rapture - You are one of the last few remaining citizens of Rapture that has not gone insane through an ADAM addiction or been murdered by splicers. Your voice is your only weapon.
- Veteran
- Augustus Sinclair - You are the prominent, although not entirely honest, CEO of the leading plasmid-research company in Rapture. You make a living peddling whatever seems to be the most lucrative for your business, whether it's your "affordable" housing, ironically named The Sinclair Deluxe, under the train tracks or your needle-filled toys created by Sinclair Toys. You know that money makes the city talk and can use your extensive finances to survive. You have two night lives.
- Detective
- Brigid Tenebaum - You are the woman that discovered ADAM, the miracle substance that can manipulate DNA. You worked for Fontaine, engineering sea slugs that were implanted in little girls from the Little Sister's Orphanage. They became known as the "Little Sisters". You began to feel responsible for the creation of the girls and felt remorse for doing experiments on them. You took the Little Sisters away to your home, creating a sanctuary for them. Each night, you can send one Little Sister through the ventilation systems of Rapture to spy on another player. They will report back to you with the player's alignment.

- Julie Langford - You are a world renowned botanist. You created the flora-filled area, known as Arcadia, responsible for all of the oxygen production in Rapture. Mentally detached from the growing civil war outside of your windows, your sole focus in life is the Lazarus Vector, a powerful device that can bring trees back from the dead. Each night, you can lock a player in your office with you to get them to help you solve the formula for the Lazarus Vector. This protects them from harm for one night. You cannot protect the same player twice in a row. You cannot protect yourself. If you protect Augustus Sinclair, your save will be used before his extra life.
- Yi Suchong - You were the leader in the creation of the Big Daddies that would become the protectors of the Little Sisters as they harvested ADAM. You also had a hand in creating new Little Sisters who refer to you as "Papa Suchong", despite your hatred for children. You were responsible for the mental conditioning that was placed in Jack's head and the Little Sister's. Your allegiance is bought easily, swearing yourself to the highest bidder. Each night, you take a player to your "Free Clinic" for "free check-ups", definitely not for minor testing of plasmids. This protects them from harm for one night. You cannot protect the same player twice in a row. You cannot protect yourself. If you protect Augustus Sinclair, your save will be used before his extra life.
- Jack-of-all-trades
- Jack - You are the illegitimate son of Jasmine Jolene and Andrew Ryan. Your mother sold you to Frank Fontaine when you were just an embryo. You were raised in the laboratories of Fontaine Furturistics, becoming a test subject for mental conditioning and plasmids. You grew unnaturally strong due to Lot 111, designed to exponentially speed up growth in children. You sought out Brigid Tenebaum, who helped free you from your mental conditioning so Fontaine can no longer control you. The extensive plasmid and ADAM use has granted you one doctor protection, one vigilante shot, and one detective inspection. You cannot protect yourself. If you protect Augustus Sinclair, your save will be used before his extra life.
- Vigilante
- Sander Cohen - You are an artistic genius that rules Fort Frolic. You have a taste for all things creative and have made your name in Rapture by using your talents. Your mind slowly deteriorated when Rapture fell into civil war, so the deaths of your former friends and colleagues didn't bother you. Instead, you work on a "collection" of quite realistic art, murder victims encased in plaster that are posed in various ways. You just need one more for your collection to be complete. You can attack and kill one player once during the night, bringing their body back to Fort Frolic to join your plaster family.
- Miller
- Andrew Ryan - You are the founder of Rapture. You spent your entire fortune creating what you believed would be the ideal society containing only the greatest humans. Your fatal mistake was inviting Sofia Lamb into the city as she soon created campaigns against you, rallying the poor. This caused you to tighten all outside contact in the city, giving way to Frank Fontaine's smuggling ring. You attempted to do damage control, which essentially lead to you having to run your beloved Rapture as a dictatorship to crush the "parasites" ruining it. This sparked the current civil war and many want your head on a pike. You have good intentions for Rapture, but your actions speak otherwise. You are a self-aware miller and will return mafia to any inspections.
Mafia:
- Godfather
- Frank Fontaine - You are the cunning and conniving criminal mastermind that is Andrew Ryan's number one enemy. You carved your way out in Rapture by creating a smuggling ring, bringing contraband items into the utopia. You later created Fontaine Futuristics, a business designed to abuse the newly discovered ADAM. You also created the Little Sister's Orphanage, a place where Little Sisters could be engineered and produce more ADAM to strengthen your hold on the city. You acquired Ryan's son from his mistress and conditioned him to be your personal sleeper agent. You faked your own death during a shootout with Ryan's men and assumed a new identity: Atlas. Being Atlas allows you to return town to all detective inspections. You contribute one KP to your team each night you are alive. You can send in KP.
- Mafia Doctor
- Dr. J.S. Steinman - You are a world-renowned surgeon. You quickly gained notoriety in Rapture with your excellent work. When ADAM was created, you saw it as a way to sculpt faces, to become an artist of the flesh. Your ADAM abuse caused you to go insane, to the point that you were mutilating your patients in the name of beauty. You frequently hallucinate and see the lovely goddess Aphrodite, why can't they all just be as beautiful as her? You can "practice" minor cosmetic improvements on one player per night. This protects them from harm for one night. You cannot protect the same player twice in a row. You cannot protect yourself. You can send in KP.
- Mafia Roleblocker
- Sofia Lamb - You are a clinical psychiatrist that opposed Andrew Ryan. You have a daughter, Eleanor Lamb, that had been turned into a Little Sister and bonded with Subject Delta. You believe in true altruism and attempted to change Rapture to fit that ideal by giving therapy to the citizens. Andrew Ryan did not appreciate your ideals, as they garnered significant support from the poor. He imprisoned you in Persephone Penal Colony, which you later broke out of by causing a full-scale prisoner riot. You seek to take all control from Ryan. Each night you can invite a player to a free therapy session, where your words will prevent them from taking action. You cannot roleblock the same person twice in a row. You can send in KP.
- Mafia Goon
- Splicer - You have consumed radical amounts of ADAM, mutating your body and poisoning your mind. You have sworn a shaky allegiance with Sofia Lamb and follow whatever cause she fights for. You have no special actions, but you can send in KP.
3rd Party:
- Bonded
- Subject Delta and Eleanor Lamb - You are Subject Delta: the first Alpha Series protector to bond with a little sister. You are also Eleanor Lamb: the little sister that Subject Delta has bonded with. Your ultimate goal is to escape from Rapture and survive together. Should Subject Delta die, Eleanor can still survive on her own, hiding in the ventilation system. Should Eleanor die, Subject Delta will fly into a fit of rage to avenge her death. He will gain the ability to slay a player each night, with his goal now to eliminate all players from both sides.

Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
- Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
- Ruining the game by doing something like handing out your mafia's member list to the town.
- Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
- Posting screenshots of your inbox.
- Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host.
- Getting yourself mod killed to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
- Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
- Offering favors/items/bells outside of the game for a ingame information.
- Sharing accounts with other players.
- Posting a false role PM phrased/screenshotted as if you received it from the host. You can still fake roleclaim, but you cannot make it look like you are posting a PM you received from the host.

Cheating is not tolerated here as it ruins the game for everyone. I can and will take action.
Time Cycle and Phases:
The game will generally follow a 24 hour day and 24 hour night cycle. If I am not online and available to post when a phase is set to end, the game will be paused until I can post. No vote changes or actions will be accepted during this period.
Day:
During Day, the survivors must vote to lynch another player from the game. Day ends after a majority is reached.
Night will follow after the lynch post has been published by me.

During Night, you can send in night actions. Night always ends after 24 hours, regardless of when all actions are submitted. This to prevent meta speculation over when actions were sent in.

Activity:
If you miss voting in two Deadline No Lynches in a row, or miss voting in three Majority Lynches in a row, you may be mod killed depending on the circumstance.
Please also make your best attempt to post on a regular basis, this means at least ONCE per day/night cycle. If I feel you are not contributing to the game enough, I may prod you via a PM asking you to post. If you ignore this and continue to avoid posting, you may be mod killed.
Play to Win:
You should try your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing. There is a fine line. If I feel as if you are not acting responsibly, I will PM you and ask you to keep your behavior in line.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM me if you need to leave the game.
Wisdom of the Crowds:
When you sign up, you may PM me with the name of one player you do not want to play with. If I get enough PMs about the same person, they will be excluded from the game, subject to my personal review. This will be done with the utmost confidence. If I feel this is abused, I may opt to not remove the player, it is up to my disgression.
Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you may be mod killed, depending on what the edit was. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything.
Inappropriate Posts:
Mafia games can get heated, emotional, and salty. Please keep it civil and remember that what happens in Mafia should stay in Mafia. Don't let things wash over to the rest of the forum, it's just a game. DO NOT let the Salt flow through you, contrary to popular belief. Especially if Tom tells you that.
Out of Thread Communication:
It is common for mafia or a town PM circle to use a medium outside of TBT such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. You use these media at your own risk.
Replacements:
This game uses replacements. Replacements will be made in the game until Day 3. If a player is mod killed during the designated time, then they will be replaced by a player on the replacement list.
Mod Font:
This is the mod color. It is reserved for the host. Please do not use it.
Question Font:
This is the question color. Use it to ask the host questions about the rules in public. You can also PM me.
General Mafia Voting Rules:
- This game will use Majority Lynch. For those of you familiar with IRC Mafia, it is the same system. When a player attains over 50% of the vote, they will be immediately killed and Day will end. (For example, with 14 players alive, a player requires 8 votes to be lynched) If I am not online and available to post when this occurs, the game will be paused until I can post. No vote changes or actions will be accepted during this period.
- If the deadline is reached without a majority, nobody will be lynched. This is considered a Deadline No Lynch. Voting is required on a regular basis or you may risk mod kill, please see the Activity section under the General Mafia Rules. You may choose not to lynch, but you must make this clear (##VOTE: No Lynch).
- Voting is done in a separate thread, located here. You may announce and discuss your votes in this main thread, but only votes in the Voting thread will be counted. Do not PM me your vote.
- Please vote in the following format: ##VOTE: Username. Votes not done in the correct fashion may not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance.
