Possibly dumb question about Wardell's catalog

So, I have gone through the entire HHP story line within one night. I did the 30 homes, had the KK concert, and I am able to customize my villager's homes back on my island.

I am aware that you need to buy items from Wardell's shop, every day, in order for him to unlock the catalog. My question is, do I have to purchase EVERY single item available that day? Or can I just get by with buying 1 item per day? And how long will that even take for him to eventually offer the catalog?

I'd like to save my Poki for the catalog once it is unlocked, but spending all of it on the items in his shop, in order for him to unlock it, seems like I'm... wasting them, buying every single item?

You don't have to buy from Wardell daily, and you don't have to buy all available items either. I know because I've experienced it.

If you find something that piques your interest, you can buy it and that counts towards the 150,000 Poki needed to unlock the catalog. How long it will take to unlock the catalog depends on how expensive the item is.
