College Closures

my university is still open, as of now. that could change any day i guess.

okay, that lasted for less than six hours. now everything is online, indefinitely. i understand why but like what am i going to do with my life now??? just stay inside at home and not go anywhere? aaaa

got the email this morning saying we would be going online after spring break for two weeks & reassessing the situation then. it's kind of annoying though because they're not letting anyone move back in. they said, quote, "get creative to find internet if you do not have access" like ?

isn't the whole point of going online to prevent the spread of the virus? if i didn't have internet they just expect me to go out in public somewhere to find internet? which wouldn't be possible anyway because most things are closed now, including the libraries. it just seems like an absolute mess. especially because my college has a lot of lower-class students who really don't have internet at home, or even a computer at that. kinda frustrating.

ugh big mood, i wish they'd just postpone it and/or see to every individual class. also idfk how that zoom **** works

My university closed last Thursday and originally was to remain closed until March 29th. Our spring break was supposed to be from April 4th to 21st, and then our exams from April 21st to May 8th (end of college year until September!). But, we got an email this morning saying no formal exams in exam halls would be taking place so I'm guessing that means we won't be going back at all this semester. Effectively I've finished my 3rd year in March, which is a really weird feeling, lol.

My 6 exams (in various areas of Microbiology and Zoology) were supposed to take place in an exam hall and were going to be essay-style, but now they'll be taking place online and will be open-book. .. Which, frankly, I'm relieved by. I'm sooo fed up of learning like 100 scientific essays off by heart every exam season. Online exams and my notes + google by my side will be a breeze. I know things won't be so easy for a lot of people but luckily for my course it's worked out in our favour!

Basically I'm not at all worried about end of semester exams. But I'm really bored (until ACNH comes out anyway!) and missing socialising. Staying home and having a longer summer break sounds really nice but when you HAVE to stay home, it gets old quick. ):

My (further education) college is in the process of arranging for curriculum and lectures being moved to an online setting at some point in the future whenever a case is detected in the college or when the government call for schools to close. Personally I'm not feeling confident about this given the way that they generally tend to handle IT related matters, along with most other people on my course not even having a PC or a laptop to be able to efficiently do coursework from home. That said, I am relieved for my classmates' sake, although for myself working in retail I'm likely to catch it anyway if it becomes widespread in my area.

for some people, their college campus is more than just a school. a lot of my fellow schoolmates are concerned over their school health insurance, access to campus consueling, work study jobs, and meal plan since they may not have the resources to access these services back home. While I love my family, I do not enjoy having to be back home for a month now; there's nothing left for me here. I'm especially at a lost for an internship I was doing near campus that is being paused now. While I understand and support schools trying to slow the spread of the virus, many students who have centered their lives around their campus must now suddenly adjust to being away

i completely understand where you're coming from. it's a bit different for me since i'm a commuter, but i use some of those resources as well and to not have them is even more stressful so i totally get it. i'm sorry that you have to deal with all of that, i'm sure it must be extremely overwhelming. my biggest issue personally with this whole ordeal is that i don't want to risk coming down with the virus and then spreading the virus around to others and especially my family, some of which are high risk, and that is why i would rather stay away from campus instead of going.

The next school quarter is going to begin a week late. That’s actually not such a bad thing, because I wasn’t feeling prepared yet (it was originally going to be the 29th).
Once it starts, we’re also going to have to do our classes online somehow for some time.

Welp today is my first day of online classes. Most definitely not what I sign up and paid for so please wish me and my gpa luck

Got my inbox spammed within the past week about my college closing. Our online classes aren't going to be the group call style, which I'm pretty mad about. I need something like that to motivate me to learn and actually learn well. I do not learn well just by reading on a computer with nobody to listen to, and I am just bad with work ethic anyways. Especially with AC coming out, I know I'm going to struggle.

We are online for the rest of the semester, and while I'll enjoy not having to commute, I miss the college community. I did online courses for a year and a half and I was excited to stay on campus. My teachers coin it as, "we didn't sign up for that type of online class, so I'll just post the work and you do it within that week." Kind of sucks.

Originally my college sent out an email saying that we'd do remote learning until April 3rd, and then like 4 days after that we got another email saying that we are online for the remainder of the semester. I completely understand bc Mass has one of the highest counts of the virus and I'm 30 minutes away from Boston. Also, I have two people in my immediate family who this could severely impact if they get it so I am doing whatever I can to stay clean and healthy! I'm hoping I'll be able to pick up Zoom pretty quickly, the only concern is how this impacts my grade.

Crazy to think that there were people not taking this seriously last week...

My local university has transitioned to online-only courses until at least mid-April. Depending on how much more the virus spreads, I can see it lasting longer.

my entire rest of the semester is online now, which is rough because i was taking some really fun classes (to even out the toughness of my cs classes, i'm taking drawing and vegetable gardening) and this definitely throws a wrench into a lot of that fun. bUT i think exams will be a little easier so???? the gpa boost is needed

We are basically homeschooled for the rest of the school year. It's pretty weird and all students are confused. Teachers are desperately trying to replace their exams with other assignments and it's no fun. I'm very concerned and stressed about the whole situation, but it's good to know I'm not the only one.

today faculty is voting on whether or not to make all classes pass or fail this semester. this would ease the stress of not having to worry about my GPA

my uni closed down around 2 weeks ago and we've been doing our classes through the Zoom platform, so far it's been going really great aside from the occasional internet issues some people may have depending on where they live and the resources they have at home.

we had already started the 2nd semester a few weeks before the pandemic so alot of the assigments we had already started had to be cancelled and changed to more practical and easy solutions for the rest of the term. I was in the middle of a very important assigment too I worked very hard for and had to cancel it because I don't have exactly the same chemicals at home as I did in our laboratory.

we will have a small 5 day break on the 9th and continue live classes until summer, unless this issue gets better overtime.
personally... it's really good to stay at home but it's also a pain to not be in a work space, I don't have the same amount of space as I once did in uni and I get distracted by everything such as animal crossing lol

the greatest downside is college tuition... they haven't changed a single thing even though they know we don't have current access to university's resources which is what we payed for and are making us pay just as much as before, it's been causing some commotion that's for sure.

This whole thing is both a blessing and a curse for me. I really hope this all blows over soon, it's driving me absolutely insane.

my school first announced the cancellation of in-person classes and moving online a couple weeks ago, midweek. more than actual academics, my job situation was stressing me out since i lived on campus and work on campus as a tutor and even though we were planning on switching to online tutoring, they still wanted us to show up to campus to do our shifts sitting in the computer lab (all together?). a few days later the president sent out an email announcing the closure for the remainder of the semester so housing followed up with an email pushing students to vacate the dorms within about a week, but they'd prorate the housing fees and waive any cancellation fees. i was ready to forfeit my work hours because there was no way i'd stay and continue paying for housing or commute 1.5 hrs every day just to work part time. after a couple more emails from the president they finally decided not to make us come to campus and allowed us to work from home so that was a big weight off my shoulders

i was also kinda worried about commencement since i'm graduating this semester. i was really looking forward to walking, had already purchased my cap & gown (all this started in the middle of grad fair too lmao), and was nooottt wanting a virtual ceremony, but so far it seems like they've decided on postponing in until the fall or whenever it's okay to come back and gather.

another concern is i'm planning to complete the teaching credential program in the next year and next semester's supposed to be a bunch of fieldwork hours. as long as the schools are closed, i won't be able to do them so i'm not sure what'll happen then if everything stays closed that far.

course-wise, all my professors for my in-person classes have been really understanding and reducing the workload, one even debating cancelling exams to avoid stressing us out further. my actual online classes have been going as planned from the beginning. we had a week off for professors to figure out moving online, then a week of online instruction, and then our week of spring break so i haven't really been keeping up with anything. we start again tomorrow so hopefully i can get some motivation back
