Would you spend real money to obtain your dream villager?

I wouldn't. One of the largest appeal about Animal Crossing to me is the RNG. I love surprises so it's always fun to pick up a random item, or to find a random villager at the campsite or on a mystery island. If I purchased all of them, I'll probably get tired of the game really quickly since there's nothing else for me to look forward to.

I still have a list of dreamies for my island and will try to get them, but I like to keep it to 5 or less so the remaining 5 will always be random villager encounters. ^^

Im just going to say this. No offense to anyone, but I find it ridiculous to pay real money for just a virtual thing and never in my life i’ll pay to have a villager to move in.

I personally wouldn’t the game and system are already pretty expensive and aside from that, there is a different level of satisfaction if you found them on an island yourself or if you get then from a random move in. Satisfaction for me in descending order is Find on Island = Find in Campsite = Random Move In > Trading for them > Scanning with Amiibo > Outright buying them with real cash.

Well, I just paid I think 15 for the amiibo card of Fang. I watched the price rag here and saw numerous streamer island hopping trying to find their dreamy and failing, so I figured for this one I make the plunge. I will use amiibo's for probably 5 out of 10 villagers, the rest I will search for naturally. Its just that having Fang in my town will increase the enjoyment rate exponentially. Which is kinda sad when I think about it, so I try not to.
But I saw amiibo cards for over 50 euros, thats insane to me. Even 15 is kinda crazy to me, but yeah...

I just buy the little NFC tags and make my own, they're dirt cheap.
That being said I prefer finding villagers rather than just scan something and obtaining it instantly, I probably will scan Fauna in around December.

Exactly my opinion as well.

Yeah I certainly agree with this too.

No I wouldn't, especially with what's going on in the world right now I wouldn't consider spending real money on a villager

My only required villager is T-Bone, who (unfortunately, but thankfully) is low-tier. I bought him for $4 on Amazon, and he was shipped to me in a wonderful protective case! I also spent about $60 on the mystery packs, because I think they are fun, and I really love Animal Crossing, and I like supporting things I like. I got some nice ones like Shep, Blanche, Pekoe, Roscoe... But no one that I'd particularly get on this sub and advertise. Fun nonetheless, and I recommend it if anyone has any cash to spare! As if anyone will have any cash to spare ever again aaaaa!

Probably not. I’ve already spent enough money just buying the game and switch! 😬

If I had a more steady income which wouldn't make me feel bad about splashing out then yeah, maybe I would do so for the two dreamies of mine that are more sought after... but then again with every place I've checked Kiki and Bunnie are sold out soooo,,, (and I'm not too worried because I'm fine with Vesta and Pompom in my island rn). Though I did find Purrl for quite cheap so I decided to grab her; also Chow was even more so but literally got sold while I was trying to sign in to my account- again not worried, quite a few of the Cranky villagers are pretty funky so I'll rotate through some of them before finding my boy.

In my opinion, if Nintendo keep bringing back features that involve amiibo cards in new games like ACNH etc. then they should start producing them again for players who 1) want to complete their collections or find dreamies, or 2) are new to the game and want to experience said features. I hope they will once everything in the world settles back down and such, but I feel like that's probably wishful thinking.

I found one of my dreamie's amiibo card on eBay for 20 bucks and noped right out of there. It's not worth it to me, you can buy better things.

Honestly when the only real alternative is spending hours island hopping and buying them from other people (both which require NMT usually which can be a chore to collect) I can see why people would spend irl money. I would 🤷 spend the money to save the time

I actually did buy an amiibo card but less because it was my dreamie and more because I really wanted to get rid of Bubbles asap and didn't want to wait/tt her out. And Bluebear ended up being the cheapest amiibo card I actually liked

When I read the title I was like No! Never! I like the gamble of going to islands looking for them.

But then I remembered,,, I spent like 9 bucks on a Static amiibo card lmao He's my favorite and I wasn't feeling like gambling for him, so uh, yeah. Yes, but no? haha

Absolutely not. It wouldn't really add anything meaningful to my Animal Crossing experience, especially when there are other methods to getting my preferred villagers that, while admittedly take longer, will just add to my game experience.

Back when Welcome Amiibo first dropped, Prices for Punchy's amiibo were about $3-$6, while some others were about $1. Right now, you'd have to pay $20-30+ for Puncy's amiibo.

I honestly would not pay more than $10 for an Amiibo card.

If you're not a collector, fan made amiibos are a good option if you can find a vendor. You could also make your own just like they are doing. The cost to make your own is probably between $0.50-$1 per card.

I'm in a bit of a weird situation. I acknowledge that right now I'm privileged to be receiving an income and I do enjoy being nice to my friends. I normally scour for amiibo cards maybe once a day and I've picked up a few popular villagers that were mispriced (Merengue, Stitches and recently Beau). I have friends who love those characters so my plan is to move them in and then give them to my friends.

I purchased a Muffy amiibo card for myself just before the game dropped for £5 since she's my all-time favourite and I love playing with her on my island. I didn't immediately scan her in tough - I played 2 weeks before scanning. I have managed to find amiibo of my other 'dreamies' such as Felicity and haven't scanned them in either. When I do get around to it I want to have one or two plots kept open as a a revolving door of villagers to see who comes in and out!

I spent a few getting those welcome amiibo villagers in NL because you can't get them elsewhere. Everyone in NH is obtainable in-game so no, I won't spend anything. I find it more fun and fulfilling trying to learn the mechanics in-game on how to get those villagers.

I spent about $5 bucks on the Amiibo Festival bundle for the Wii U simply for the Amiibos and the cards. You get Goldie, Stiches and Rosie. Those are my 3 backup for when I get unwated villagers moving in.

I do like the fact that Nintendo introduces ways to bring in villagers based on their Amiibo cards. It's not mandatory but a nice option for those that have cards of their favorite villagers. I personally wouldn't spend top $ for a specific villagers, maybe a cap for $5 or so.
