Would you spend real money to obtain your dream villager?

I got lucky and found a Stitches card online that wasn't ridiculously price gouged (comparatively). He was around $20. I'd never spend the $70+ that most ask for him, though.

I traded 30 million bells for a preorder for Trails of Mana, so I'm sure it's possible.

no... already paid enough money for a switch and the game AND online membership, don't plan to spend any more lol. there are lots of people who offer villagers from amiibo services and that's what i'd prefer to do if i really cared to have a specific villager. but there are so many cute, fun, special villagers that i find it hard to believe i would only be happy with a specific set of 10 on my island? anyone else feel that way? like i have my favorites of every personality type, and i would be fine with any of those. sometimes i even have surprise favorites too. eta: if circumstances were really dire, i MIGHT spend up to $20 on an amiibo if the world ended and no one was offering villager trading services for reasonable in-game prices lol.

nope. i have a few amiibo cards from back when new leaf was around, and i haven't even used those yet (though i do have lolly queued up just in case. . . lol). i'd never pay more than the few bucks i paid for them because i know i'll find whoever i want eventually. until then, i'll have fun seeing who shows up, and maybe i'll end up keeping them around. tbh based off of new leaf, it got a little stale having a set 10 villagers for a long time. but it would be a great reminder of how long i waited for them to show up finally <3

I wouldn't. I like villagers for their design, but don't really have a strong emotional attachment to any, and am ok with letting them come and go. I also think things in the game feel better if I get them myself. So for me, it's not really worth it to pay $60 for a villager. I'm not out to judge anyone who does though! As long as they're happy and enjoying the game, that's what matters most!

No, I don’t think it’s worth cashing in irl money for a character. Maybe if you’re spending it for amiibo cards as you actually get to have a physical object that comes with it, but I would never spend any more than $15 on a card.

I'd considering buying certain amiibo villager cards I love, but I'm talking generally 10 dollars or less typically for any one specific card. I already spend money on a luxury fashion so I guess it's all relative really as I'm willing to already drop money on some objects people consider frivolous. I generally wouldn't be willing to spend too much on any one card though seeing as I can likely trade for the villagers I like with some patience.

I was SO close to buying a Stitches amiibo card for $20. Luckily I didn't because my dream list has changed and Stitches isn't on it lol. I bought NFC tags instead

max i try to spend on a single amiibo card is 10 dollars. i got ken for like 7$ and he's not even that popular but it's a fair price so... 🤷‍♀️
which was kind of dumb for me because i see the guy being given away for free sometimes online smh.

haha, i feel bad for everyone who's trying to get marshal or another very popular character. good luck.

I found him on an island tour I’m good. Lol but no. I would never do that.

But couldn’t you argue that this is basically the amiibo trend?

would I pay for the privilege of recruiting a villager from someone else’s game? No.

would I pay for an amiibo card to scan them in myself? Absolutely. I’be been collecting the cards since they came out. I find fun just in owning them, sorting them, looking through my album, and going to events to trade them. So to me the value is greater just than the ability to scan them into my game. I’m still trying to get a complete collection (had a period when I was not able to afford new packs around series 3 so I’m way behind), so I had no qualms about buying a handful of cards I was missing anyway for villagers I wanted. I didn’t spend more than $18 on any individual card though. Prices are unreasonably high right now bc of the new game, so I’ll hold off on the popular ones haha.

No, I figure I'll get who I want eventually even if it'll take me a while. ACNH was already quite expensive considering I had to buy a whole new switch since my sister and I were sharing one previously, but also bought nintendo switch online with the game.

I'd rather grind the nmt or trade for them in order to get the villager I want. No need to buy the cards.

I found Julian's card for like $10 on eBay and couldn't pass it up because he...well, he was once popular, lol, but other than my good buddy the Astrology Unicorn, nah. I'm more interested in Spla2n amiibo. Gotta get that witch hat sometime, and unlock the songs!

You'd have to pay me money to pay money for a villager.

I don't think amiibo cards are necessarily a bad purchase (they're a sort of add-on to the game, which isn't any better or worse than paid DLC IMO. In other words, I'm okay with paying for amiibo-related stuff. I'm not personally keen on going to auction sites like eBay to get a villager, however.

As much as I love and want Bluebear on my island, no. If I get her with NMT, awesome, if not, I have Carmen and I am happy with her.

Absolutely not. I'm already questioning if I would buy paid DLC (not even accounting the fact that I may not even have the money to do so if it comes out). I would rather trade for the very few I want or, if needed, I would gladly make some trips to the mystery islands.

For me I collect them as a hobby it’s kinda like Pokemon cards I wanna collect them all but somewhere along the lines I stopped collecting cos 1. Rip my wallet and 2. There always out of stock

absolutely not. while i love all my dream villagers dearly, i would never pay rlc for them

I bought NFC tags to get myself, my partner, and some local friends our faves. I personally wouldn't want to spend a lot on an official collector's item. I very much WOULD consider buying one of those custom keychains off etsy though, mostly because it would be fun to show off at cons.
