Big money? No. If the process of getting villagers to move out continues to be annoying, though, then I may consider the fanmade NFC sticker things for at least a few of them.
I can kind of understand spending money on Amiibo cards before the prices became inflated but other than that, nope. No offense to anyone who would, but there are so many other things I'd rather spend my money on than a character in a video game. Also, I have bills to pay lol
If I had a really good idea of exactly which villagers I wanted for my town to keep forever and ever and I just wanted 2-3 cards to finish off my roster and the cards were 30 or less (preferably a LOT less) each, I might seriously consider it. Buuut...I like a lot of villagers and I don't have a concrete theme or list of dreamies and I even like all of my current villagers to some degree. So I don't really have a reason to do that. Also it's not like I don't have time on my hands to try to get them the old-fashioned way lol.
I will say the cards in general weren't this bad but even way before the virus hit popular villager cards were selling pretty high on ebay (think like 80 bucks or more for villagers like Marshal or Ankha).
I'm sure they're going to start producing them again at some point. There's an obvious demand and a new game to tie them to. They just stopped until recently because they brought the cards out for the amiibo rerelease of New Leaf, which was quite awhile ago.
Aside from Amiibo cards, I'd never spend any actual money on a villager.
I think it's pointless to spend any real cash on villagers without getting their card, cause at least with the amiibo cards, it's a nice little piece of merchandise to collect and you can use it in HHD and NL too.
In terms of price range, I wouldn't spend more than $10 on a singular card, then again I'm not really interested in collecting the cards atm
