This is an interesting question, and I definitely feel like I have parts of both, but I probably lean more positive.

I feel like I'm sometimes overly trusting and forgiving, even when I shouldn't be based on evidence. Like, I always question whether villains in books/series/movies are actually bad or not when they appear friendly, even if they've done awful things. I also just generally tend to have a more positive or at least neutral view of the future compared with people around me.

But I still act pretty cautiously, and am always thinking of how the worst possible outcome is always a possibility.

I'd say both, but leaning more towards negative. The last couple of years have been pretty terrible for me and it's not even over, so that is affecting me.

My internal monologue can be cynical but I don't see any purpose in parading a negative attitude around. It can be contagious and it doesn't serve me to make others miserable.

I do try to seek silver linings in negative situations.

I didn't think about how others might see me. It depends on who I talk to. Sometimes I just pretend things are fine, especially if I don't know someone well or think I shouldn't bother them.

due to a number of mental issues i do have negative thought patterns. it’s all about flipping these thoughts around and bringing more positivity to my way of thinking

Negative. I can't be too positive or the bad eye will find me and kick my butt. It can be really annoying for others because I always think about what could go wrong...and usually, that thought should come with a plan B but no...🙃 Not always. Like if I have to send forms or something, it often gets lost, and everything that looks easy for others can get complicated if I'm involved. My former employer wanted to fire me for bringing back luck, and I will admit that the time I was there it was pretty much chaotic every day. So yeah, I always fear something bad will happen which makes me a negative, anxious, cautious person, I guess, but I don't have negative thoughts about people in general, because I just see them as humans not good or bad and I don't have any expectations.

Anyone familiar with this embarrassment of a thread I posted on this sub-forum a year ago should already be able to tell which of the four options on the poll most accurately describes me.

I should also point out that someone seriously disillusioned with humanity should not be obligated to give a damn how other people might "see" them. In a world where opportunistic grifters profit from gullible idiots, incompetent world leaders failing to govern their respective citizenry, and people proclaiming themselves as decent people while also doing nothing to actually make things better for targeted, marginalized groups, this cynical attitude seems totally justified, frankly. This is on top of the baggage of annoyances that I go through on a day-to-day basis.

Telling such people like myself to be "positive" is just so unbelievably dismissive of our mental state and the experiences which led us to that point. Basically telling those with a dissenting view of the world to be quiet because it harms your buzz or something. The world is as it is because people generally aren't good and don't want to make it a better place for everyone. That's just a simple fact.

I would rather be a "glass-half-full" person, but I also need to check whether or not the glass was poisoned.
