In ACGC, Tom Nook ran a lottery, and it was a very cool event:

"In Animal Crossing, the Lottery is an event that happens on the last day of each month. In order to play, the player must go to Nook's shop. Tom Nook will not buy or sell anything on a Lottery day.
In order to play, the player must have five tickets of the current month, but tickets from the previous year can still be used on the same month. To get tickets, the player must buy clothes and furniture from Tom Nook's shop. Tickets cannot be sold; Tom will refuse to buy them from the player and remind them of the raffle day.
When the player wins the lottery, Nook will usually offer the player items that are considered to be hard to find, or more often, an NES game. After the player has given him five tickets from that month, he will spin the balls in the container. Depending on the ball's color, the player will either get a specific prize (gold ball for first place, red ball for second place, blue ball for third place), or no prize at all (white ball)."

What do you think about that? It was a very unique event that never came back after the GC game.

I would love it if this would make an return. Perhaps either Timmy and Tommy would do the lottery now or Nook will show up for a day in the shop just to host this.

I'd support it coming back at some point if it had some form of stampable card instead of the SO MANY LOTTERY TICKETS, TOO MANY, similar to the Nook Points system from WW/LGTTC or the International Museum Day event that's coming up in a couple of weeks... but in general I preferred the Nook Points system, because it didn't stop you being able to do stuff for one day a month.

If there's another Nook store update in a future update, it'd be interesting to see, but it'd have to be heavily reworked because the lottery was both good and annoying.

If they added the lottery, they should add cool prizes in NH and more cool events as well.

Definitely! I wish they would do more events too. Seems like such a gap in between events. Also more furniture sets from old AC’s

Yeah! I think Nintendo can’t technically have that obvious of an element of “gambling” in it but I don’t care... I would love it back. It was a mini event to look forward to. It reminds me of the last 5 turns events in Mario Party 4 where if you had a lottery ticket they spun a wheel and you had to hope your 3 characters matched (spoiler: they never did).

No thanks. I don't want my Nook shop shut down one day a month!
But they don't need to make the event work exactly like it was - nor they should.

Nook isn't in charge of the shop, so there's absolutely no need to close it.

It could be handled differently:

Instead of being a monthly event, I could happen each 15 days. Tom would give every villager - including you - a ticket to the lottery. The ticket wouldn't be an item, and would work like the May Day event, instead of how NMTs work (this would also prevent people to turn it into another currency). The lottery would run on Sundays, with nook gathering everyone at the plaza to announce the winner. That also means the player wouldn't be the only one benefitting from the lottery, and you would see other villagers receiving prizes as well.

As for prizes, they could include things that everyone should use - so, no pants, no shoes, no socks, no flooring and no wallpapers. Foreign fruits could also be included on the prize list, easing the pain on people who don't have an online subscription. They could make some items exclusive to the lottery, like some classic pieces of furniture.

I liked all these little events in GC, it's what made the game interesting and unique. I hated the tickets though, they always littered my inventory.
There's a lot of other things I miss too from the original that never made it back!

NH is all about those big customisation features and doesn't really have any of these smaller features like GC does, but I guess that's what made ACGC very special.
