I have been playing ACNL ever since it came out in the UK and I am not at all sure about this update.

I am worried that it will completely change the game that I love out of all recognition.

Even forums like TBT will never be the same again. I get that many people are beyond excited by it but I am quite nervous about how it will turn out and what ACNL will be like post update.

I also have my concerns, however I think it brings a whole new element to the game. It gives the amiibo functionality a bigger purpose/use also.

I guess we'll just have to see when it comes out.

When is it coming out again?

I feel like it won't be as big of an update as everyone thinks it'll be. I mean it's coming so late in the game's life. Amiibo feature is the most obvious one. I'm also hoping for more new dialogues from villagers as well as additional room for villagers to live in your town. I feel like 10 is too little!

Agreed, there's a lot of hype and some players are hoping for a lot of changes and I doubt there will be many and no major ones.
I would have thought major changes will be kept for the next version of the game in the main game sequence - gamecube - pop growing/acww/accf/acnl/???NX version.

We could get as little as just a few new items & the ability to bring in specific villagers via their amiibo card.
I presume it will be a little more than this cos of the photo with Wisp in it, but I doubt there will be much.
The update is free after all.

I presume Nintendo are hoping that with the ac mobile game coming out at the same time (again free so probably not that much to it) , & a price reduction on acnl (if it is re-released as a select game in your region) they are hoping the game will get a new lease of life and keep us going/happy until the next generation console/main game in the series.

Well that's my take on it all.

I can't imagine this update being truly game changing tbh. I'm *hoping* for lots of things, new features and fixes to existing problems (like corrupted save data killing your town regardless of how careful you are with your 3DS, sd, etc).. But even if all kinds of stuff is introduced I feel sure there will be plenty of people around who just keep on keeping on as though the update hasn't happened as much as possible. Many people don't like change and NL has been out for 3 years now, that's a long time for people to have grown accustomed to the status quo.

I honestly don't think it will be a huge update like people are hoping, I think we're just going to get some new DLC stuff and the amibo functionality but that's pretty much it, I don't think they're going to do stuff like adding more villagers or changing any of the main game aspects. It will just be easier to move someone in, and I am sure we will still have to wait for someone to move out if we have 10.

I think people have took the update WAY out of proportion. I think it's from the silence by Nintendo but as far as we're concerned it's only adding amiibo functionality and furniture from out-of-AC-series amiibo. If we're lucky HHD furniture. I really want new features but they'll just add that to the next generation of AC.

i agree with this.

I couldn't agree with this more. People are like "I'm hoping to be able to choose villagers houses, more room for villagers, ect ect." If Nintendo were gonna do that they probably would have told us by now :/

Thanks for this guys, I do feel better about it now. I am a person who does not deal with change well at all, not even in a beloved game. I expect I am getting things out of proportion.

What's this update about? Is it an update for AC:NL or? Is there any URL links that you guys can provide with this supposed update?

You're welcome :)

As you can see, the update is definitely real but we don't have a lot of solid info about what it will include aside from amiibo functionality and the splatoon stuff.

Yeah, I'm quite excited about it truthfully. So it looks like it's coming out this year I take it? If so then nice, very nice :D

Since the actual Nintendo website has little else to say about the update, other than it adding Amiibo functionality, it's safe to say it won't be adding much else to the game.

I think it's because they're peddling it as a "large update" that has a lot of people thinking it's going to do more than it a really will. And of course it's going to be a large update; I can't imagine the level and amount of coding involved to make this work on a practically four year old game, but I digress.

And hell, I'm pretty sure the update will be installed by clicking that so far useless Update Data option on the loading screen of the game, so I'm thinking that you won't even NEED to install the update if you don't want to.

I'm excited for it due to the fact that I will FINALLY be able to reset my first town without fear of losing my villagers thanks to adding 'em in via Amiibo cards. I don't even need to extra items and whatnot that is apparently being given to us as well.

I really don't think it is going to change anything massively. Wouldn't think things like extra villager spaces etc. would be added so late in the game.
The biggest change will be the ability to scan amibo cards and adopt your villagers that way. But even then, it's complete luck which cards you manage to get. Unless you're somebody who has been collecting them for a while, which not everybody has. I think the trading plaza will still be very much in use for a while yet

I can explain this update, because this is actually the second update to New Leaf. Second? When was it updated before? In Japan. It got updated to version 1.1 in Japan not long after it came out. Here's what the Japanese version looks like on the title screen: 0725161223b.jpg I suspect the next update will say version 2.0.

So, what does 1.1 do? It allowed for hosting and visiting other towns. You're reminded of it every single time you open your gates and travel to other towns. Why do I bring this up? Because technically you don't need it. I have both a digital and now a physical copy of tobidase (JP New Leaf). I had to update the physical version, but guess what, since I have more than 1 Japanese 3DS, turns out only the 3DS that got the update is version 1.1, the one that doesn't still plays version 1.0, meaning the update is saved to the SD card for both physical and digital. Same goes with HHD, if you have a physical version, play it after removing the SD card, and you'll notice the computer will be gone off Lottie's desk.

You're not going to need the update, it's going to save to the SD card like version 1.1 did, and it's going to play just fine without it, my version 1.0 tobidase still functions as any other version, except I can't open the gates until I update the system that's playing it.

I'm very happy that Nintendo are promoting New Leaf once more.

EDIT: Also, bloody Wisp is back. That's gotta be the best part of the update!
