Wondering How You Guys Set Up Your Towns.. Everyone/anyone can answer these ♥

Did you name your mayor after yourself?
Kinda. Duzzel is what I go by online and in all of my games. Not my real name though...

Is your mayor the same gender as you?
Yep ~

What got you to choose the town name that you did?
It's a town name that I've been using in my last 3 AC games. It's always helped be get the "feel" of my town right.

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
I've given up on a town from poor rock placement. They were everywhere and in bad locations.
Other factors include the river shape (I like a lot of water, but don't want anything too cut off), And Plaza/Town Hall location. I like having everything in the top acres.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
I'm pretty content with where everything is. Nothing is in the way of anything else, so that leaves a lot of room for landscaping ~

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite?
Pears are my favorite fruit, while my least favorite may be the durian ~

Are starter neighbors important to you?
Not unless they're a favorite of mine. I always figure the initial villagers will move out eventually, so I never concern myself with who's living there.

1. Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
- Yes, I like to have my name connected with games.
2. Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
- Yes, I like to play "as myself".
3. What got you to choose the town name that you did?
- I like peaches.
4. Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
- No square grass, no green train station, no pear fruit. I hate the way they look ):
5. What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
- I just restarted & I love everything about my town!!
6. What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
- Apples are my favorite, pears are my least favorite.
I love apples irl & I hate the way pears look against
the trees in spring/summer
7. Are starter neighbors important to you?
- No!! They'll come and go as my town progresses.

Did you name your mayor after yourself?
Yes, because it was my first town, so I wanted to play as me, not as a character.
Is your mayor the same gender as you?
Yes, because of the same reason as above.
What got you to choose the town name that you did?
My brother was playing Pokemon X at the time, since we bought our games together, and I couldn't think of anything better. Besides, Lumiose is a pretty name, so why not?
Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town?
Nope. I didn't know anything about the game, so I basically chose the first map I liked. It ended up being a pretty good map :D
What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
I like that I only have one pond and it's right next to Retail. I still haven't finished that area but I like the general idea I have of it. Also I have another spot south of my town, a rather thin stripe of land which ended up being a perfect spot for a romantic evening heheh.
What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite?
I like them all the same? Except island fruit I guess, I don't know why but they generally look ugly. Also, if it counts, bamboo since it's so bothersome.
Are starter neighbors important to you?
I don't have any starter villagers left, but out of them, I only liked Pecan.

Hope this helped!

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
No. I HATE naming gaming characters after myself, IDK why.

Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
Yes, because since I didn't name my character after myself, I didn't want to feel completely random and not connected.

What got you to choose the town name that you did?
Minecraft. Oak wood from the trees in one word: Oakwood. I just like the ring to it, too.

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
Honestly, I wanted the town hall and Re-Tail to be pretty close to where I was gonna put my house. I hate traveling far to them.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
Hmm... I guess I chose it because everything was so easy to locate and there was a huge empty part where I could breed flowers (I'm HUGE on hybrid flower-ing).

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
Favorite: Peaches. They just look good all seasons. I don't really know.
Least: APPLES. They have the brown on them (unless they are perfect and that is rare) and that is just SO ugly looking in a town.

Are starter neighbors important to you?
No, because they normally don't stay in super long. Unless there is one I HATE to the core, they are not super important.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not? Mhm! I always do unless it's like an RPG
Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not? I'm agender, but when I created the game I wanted my character to represent me so I guess they don't have one too.
What got you to choose the town name that you did? bc I love the legend of zelda
Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why? Honestly I just picked one of the 4 town options but it works well for me
What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map? the river is basically in the middle which is cool!
What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why? Peach, peaches taste good. I don't like the cherries.
Are starter neighbors important to you? Not really, they're all gone...

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. I chose Outset cause I was playing Wind Waker at the time and it also means beginings so I thought it was nice.
4. Not really.
5. Oranges, Triangle grass pattern, Retail outside the Train gate.
6. I like Oranges the best and Apples the least.
7. Kinda.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
No, Because plenty of aspects of the game are about creative freedom, so I decided to model or name my mayor after myself.

Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
Yes. No particular reason, really.

What got you to choose the town name that you did?
I had started the game when my BF got it for me for christmas, I didn't like anything about any decisions I made, so I reset and had made options, had a poll, and then made the decision myself.

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
Yes - On the reset, My no-no's were only pears at the time because I hate pears - Which I now regret because I didn't realize having a lot of rocks in my town was going to make it so hard - Not just for PWP placement and decorating and junk, but for finding out which rock has the bells that day.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
I absolutely love that my town tree is in the center - If I had to reset again, I would definitely look for a map with the tree in the middle somewhere.

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
My favorite fruit is the cherry, because I love cherry cola. My least favorite are pears because pears are gross imo.

Are starter neighbors important to you?
Yes and no- I mean, it makes my job easier because then that's less searching and cycling for villagers I like AND I don't have to worry about house placement, But I won't let it compromise my ideal map.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
No. I don't have any problems with my real name but I just don't like using it in video games.

Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
Yes. It's my main character so even with a different name I want it to be my gender.

What got you to choose the town name that you did?
I always name my towns after places from video games or anime/manga. Current town is named Avalar from Spyro 2.

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
Pears or Oranges as native fruit, more than two ponds.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
Just reset so I haven't explored it to much, but a south facing waterfall and beach ramp, short river. I also have a small part of he land that rounds off at the end of the river that I like.

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
Apple and Peaches because of their perfect varieties.

Are starter neighbors important to you?
No. If anything I don't want any starting villagers I like because I plot reset.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
No, because I don't want to give a human character my name when they don't look at all, like me.
*glares at new leaf developers for not being able to let players change their permanent skin color to more brown tones*
Id much rather give my mayor their own identity since I cant portray myself in-game.

Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
Yeah. When I started out in the game I had no idea what animal crossing even was so I didn't know what to expect. So I just answered whichever question that cat asked me in all honesty. :3 I made a few more characters and two of them were male, to even out the gender ratio for humans in my town.

What got you to choose the town name that you did?
Belvast? Its from a game called Mabinogi. It has nothing to do with northern Ireland. (Although the Belvast in Mabinogi's name, was inspired by real life, Belfast. I really liked the name Belvast, and how its pronounced, I loved the town theme in game and the NPCs there and its design. Ive tried restarting my town and gave it different names. "Termina" , "Hyrule" , "Toontown" but as I streetpass people often, I see people name those towns occasionally and I wanted my town to have a unique name. And mainly, Belvast just seemed perfect to me it had fit perfectly in as my town.

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
I hardly even noticed the shape of grass differentiated between towns. But as I got into a habit of restarting I did find that as for perfect fruit, the cherries looked the best. I loved peaches but its perfect fruit didn't look nearly as appetizing to me as the perfect cherries. So I had cherries as my town fruit and grew normal peaches.
When I did find out that grass is different for each town, I looked it up what they looked like in all seasons and I liked triangle grass the best in winter. (Winter is my favorite season, and the triangle grass turns into stars in the winter season) I already had triangle grass in the town I settled in so lucky me. I^u^
My beach also had to be on the right side, the waterfall had to be facing south, the slopes that were rare and had to lead straight to the dock where Kappa is, and the layout with re-tail, plaza, and hall had to look neat.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
Features? Triangle grass, perfect cherries, beach on the right, slopes, location of the dock .I had a restarting spree for the perfect map. And I didn't stop till I found a map I was satisfied with.

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
In game for town fruit? My favorite PERFECT fruit would be perfect cherries.
Its just so shiny and red and plump and golden at the bottom... <3
My least favorite perfect fruit would be oranges. That extra lump...
Favorite non-native fruit? Peaches. Perfect cute little pink plumps.
Least non-native fruit? None.

Are starter neighbors important to you?
Depends on who I start out with and if I have any memories with them.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
Nope. It's a personal thing of mine because I just don't feel comfortable being addressed by my real name in any games I play that give you the option of naming the character you're playing. I stick with the name "Goshi".
Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
Yep. Even though the name I use may not be my real one, I still like to base the mayor off of me somehow.
What got you to choose the town name that you did?
Just like how I name my characters, it just comes to mind. I made the name(and possibly word)myself gathering from what I've searched up, so it's cool to have something that nobody else has thought of.
Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
Yeah, I was specifically set on apples or peaches as fruits and the town grass had to be circles because I liked it's pattern in the Wintertime. Picky? Maybe. But if you're like me and really determined to have your town the way you want it, you'll come through.
What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
I love the second waterfall going into the ocean vertically. It looks nice, and looks even nicer when you plop a bridge right over the mouth so you can stare off into the sea. I also like the way my houses are placed and overall buildings as well.
What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
My favorite fruit is the peach just like in real life. I've always had a personal attachment to peaches. My least favorite would have to be the cherry. Not because of the fruit itself because in real life I love cherries also(they're second best to peaches), but it's how they look in-game. They just don't look right to me on the trees.
Are starter neighbors important to you?
Not too much. It depends if they're animals I like. If not, I could care less and I just wait until I get better ones to move in.

1. No because I wanted to create my mayor as an original character.
2. Yes because I like dressing up girls more LOL but cross-dressing is fun too!
3. My town name is Milfleur. When coming up with names, I thought that I could try picking an alphabet I rarely use which was 'M' and I ended up thinking of millefleur which means thousands of flowers.
4. It had to have peaches... This is my first town and all I cared about was getting my favourite fruit as my native fruit 8)
5. No idea haha
6. Peaches!! I love peaches irl. I guess my least favourite in-game would be pear, the pixel art for it isn't as pretty as the rest but I like pears irl too.
7. Sadly no, none of my starter villagers were my favourites. Mostly because I didn't get really attached to them. The 6th ones in my ACWW and my ACNL however, are my faves because for some reason they moved closest to me and its easier to talk to them lol.

1. Yup, my Mayor has my IRL name. I figure I wanted it to be 'me' governing over my town, and not a character I made up.
2. Yes, for the reason mentioned above.
3. My town is named after a town in one of my favourite games ever, Bravely Default. In the EU/NA localization the town in question is named "Florem", the name I'm using is how it's named in the original japanese version.
4. I really wanted apples and specific placements for facilities. (i.e.; town plaza in the center of the town, duh) So I restarted a couple of times until I got them.
5. It was really easy for me to rule out different sections of my town, and depending on their size and location, decide what to do with them. A large open area would become a park and such.
6. Apples. There's just something endearing and domestic about them. Also the perfect variant actually does look nice. Also I love apple-related pastries IRL. Sadly I'm allergic to uncooked apples. I sort of dislike pears and durians. It's just the looks, something about them is just.. rebarbative.
7. Yes and no. I try to love all my villagers equally, I tend not to pick out favourites or dreamies.

1. Yes. It made me feel like that I was actually put into the game.
2. Yes. The same reason as above.
3. I don't know, really. My town name has some meaning to it that I liked (I believe it means nature?), so I went with it.
4. Other than town layout, not really. Who doesn't like a good town layout?
5. I love how I can easily landscape my town, and that I have plenty of room for PWPs. If a villager happens to move in a terrible spot, I can easily fix the paths I've set down.
6. My favorite fruit are apples, but I'm not a fan of pears. I like how the perfect apples look, and pears... I've never really liked their appearance, I guess.
7. Not really, unless one of them is a Dreamie. I only have one starter villager remaining of mine. It's easy to get them to move.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not??
- Yes I did. My mayor represents me so using my own nickname felt natural. If I had had a certain theme or story going on in my town, I would probably have used something else though.

Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
- Yeah. I'm more of a girl than a boy so that's what I chose because again, she represents me. She basically looks like a boy though because I chose a face that the two genders both have, and I dress her so that she looks like a boy.

What got you to choose the town name that you did?
- I didn't have any real ideas. I only wanted to name my town after some Finnish word. There's no real reason why I chose this one in particular. I actually had many options that I used when trying to find a proper map. This is the name I ended up with, and it was partly just coincidence.

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
- Yes, too many. I had so many "deal-breakers" that I prefer to talk about requirements instead. I was quite particular about river layout and plaza/town hall/Re-tail locations. I only had 6 river layouts I wanted, so all the other ones were kind of deal-breakers. Most of the other things were rather just preferences and not real deal-breakers, unlike the river and building placements.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
- I mentioned some of the things above. I love almost everything about my map. I really like the river because it's symmetrical and the town plaza is in the center of my town. I like the Re-Tail and town hall locations because they are almost lined up, and out of the way of anything important. I also really love where all my ponds are. When I was looking for a map, I already knew where I wanted to build the permanent buildings or PWPs. The ponds happened to be next to each one of these places, but still leaving enough room for the actual buildings. I couldn't have had better luck with the ponds. I really like it how every building/area has their own pond. They make the building placements seem less random on the map, and I like how it looks otherwise too.

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
- My favourite fruit tends to vary depending on what the native fruit in my current town is. I usually get tired of my native fruit just because it's my native fruit. But this time I really like my native which is peaches. I like the colors of both regular and perfect peaches. They're my favourites as of now. My least favourite would be oranges because I think they look quite boring. Same goes for pears but they aren't as bad. I prefer the green color over orange.

Are starter neighbors important to you?
- Not really, if the map is what I really want. Of course it's nice to have nice starter villagers and I have to admit that they have affected my opinion sometimes. I mean whether or not to take a town. Like when I go to check out a nice-looking map when restarting. If the starter villagers are bad and I'm not really sure about the map either, chances are that I'm not going to take the town. But in the town I have now, the starter villagers were indeed quite bad but I still took the town. I hope this is what you meant with this question haha.

Did you name your mayor after Yourself ? Yes, I figured that the character was me, and I was going on an adventure.

Is your mayor the same gender as you ? Yes.

Why did you choose your town name ? Joy is my daughters middle name, and I wanted my town to be happy and cheerful.

Any deal breakers when choosing a town map ? I don't like too many ponds. They take up space that could be used for decorating.

What features do you like about your town ? I like that it's simple, but also has unique areas in it. Like a North pole area, ice skating ring, lemonade stand etc.

What is your favorite and least favorite fruit ? I like apples and oranges. There such bright, happy looking fruits. My least favorite used to be pears because they seem a bit drab, but I really like perfect pears. They look golden. I think it's cool having a golden pear tree.

Are your starter neighbors important to you ? No. I love meeting new villagers. You don't know if you like them unless you get to know them a little.

1. Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
No, I didn't. I wanted more whimsy than using my own name.

2. Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
She is. A female mayor is empowering! If I start a side character, it will be a male.

3. What got you to choose the town name that you did?
My boyfriend got the game for Christmas 2013. He let me play as a side character. But I was obsessed and wouldn't share. HA. So I bought my own in January and he restarted so we could start fresh together. His first town was named Rosewood. He let me use the name because I loved it and named his town Haven.

4. Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
I had a few things I wanted: Peaches and for the plaza to be in the center. And really only one I didn't: Pears. No pears.

5. What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
I love how symmetrical it is and that the plaza is the heart of the town. And my peaches. Where I'm from, we celebrate a Peach Festival in the summer, so that just makes me happy.

6. What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
Peaches are my absolute favorite. (See #5.) And pears are my least favorite. Green fruit on green trees. Eh.

7. Are starter neighbors important to you?
It's great to start a town with dreamies already there, but at the same time, you have to deal with where they're at as you won't be plot resetting for them. So no, not really. You don't like 'em? Move 'em on out!

1. Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not? - I named my mayor Kira (the name I use on the internet and such) because my first name is kinda long-ish and I don't like to use it and my family nickname is kinda childish. :p
2. Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not? - Yes because I prefer it that way.
3. What got you to choose the town name that you did? - Well for my first town I liked the word "Wind" and I thought "drake" was kinda cool so I merged them and got "Windrake"; this current town I have is "Keydrake" (Key+drake) but I now prefer Windrake more.
4. Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why? - My first town I just went with what I had first. For my current town I actually have an incredible layout but I have two thin areas of land at the top-left corner and on the left side below it which bugs me and I have the pond next to Re-tail that kinda bums me, but for everything else I'm quite satisfied! :D
5. What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map? - Oranges, little area made by the river just perfect for the Cafe, House, Retail, stairs to Main Street, and dock are almost in a PERFECT line, which is very convenient for me.
6. What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why? - My favorite fruits are both Apples and Oranges, and my least favorite is probably pears or peaches. Not sure how to explain why, though...
7. Are starter neighbors important to you? - Yeah, for starting out at least I feel I need them decent at best, personally. I don't have any of my starter villagers anymore (except for Papi who I just love!), but they were definitely decent compared to others.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?: I did not, because I'm always pretty scared of people finding out who I am, (I'm paranoid) and I only share my real name to close friends. It makes it more special too. Also because for some reason, whenever I name in-game characters after myself, I always seem to have bad luck in the game. xD So I go with naming them after my favorite characters.

Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?: I always choose characters with the same gender as me, (I'm female) because I do like making my mayors look cute. <3 (Not saying boys can't dress up cute) I also relate to them more, and I just enjoy female gameplay more.

What got you to choose the town name that you did?: My town name, Karasuno, is a volleyball team that I love. ^^

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?: Nope. As long as the way the map looks isn't awkward.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?: Not really. I would say it's about average. However, I really like how my Re-Tail is near the top of my town near the cliff. It always bugs me when I see Re-Tail around the center/side of the town. It just... doesn't look good.

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?: To be honest, I like all the fruits, but I would say apples and cherries are my favorites. They're gorgeous in their perfect form, and they just look cute in particular. They are delicious in real life as well too. cx I used to really like peaches, but they're kinda overrated now so I got over them. Least favorite is peaches since I've seen them so much. Pears and oranges are lovely as well.

Are starter neighbors important to you?: Some. I have some kind of weird gut feeling about some of them and I grow bonds with them. Others, I let them move away.

Did you name your mayor after yourself? Why or why not?
I used my usual online username, "Folia." Seemed like a better choice, vs using my real name.

Is your mayor the same gender as you? Why or why not?
Yes (female). I usually choose female characters when given the option.

What got you to choose the town name that you did?
1. Personal thing, 2. for the lols. (HongKong)

Did you have any "deal-breakers" when looking for a town, (ex: no oranges, no square grass, etc..)? What were they? Why?
I really didn't care about the town fruit or grass as much as I did about the generated map. I wanted all the locations (e.g. town hall, Re-Tail, event plaza) located together, for unity. Also tried to make sure there weren't any tiny spots of off-set land, so that I could have plenty of room for PWPs and what not.

What features do you absolutely love about your town, and or your town map?
Finding the above!

What fruit is your favorite, and least favorite? Why?
I like peaches, simply for aesthetic reasons. Least favorite would be durians, just because I remember watching people on TV say they smelled horrible.

Are starter neighbors important to you?
Eh, only if I like them.

1. Yes, I did because I was too lazy to think of a good name :D
2. Yeah, but I don't have a particular reason for it.
3. I'm probably the biggest weeb in the whole region here so ye
4. I actually wanted a better map and maybe cherries or something but when I saw Kabuki as one of my villagers I absolutely didn't care any more.
5. I... actually have no idea :D
6. I hate oranges. They were my starter fruits and it took me so long to get other ones, so I can't look at them any more. My favourites are peaches but I don't know why.
7. Not that much...
