It took me over 200 bait before I caught my first one. It's definitely possible, though. I wish you luck!

I got 3 within 50 bait during the rain. I'm not sure if rain increases the chance of rare fish?

That should be plenty! (Assuming that you catch most of the fish, ahah!) I caught my mahi mahi in like 2-3 tries, but the giant trevally took me about 40-50 baits ;V So hopefully, you should be able to catch it in under 100 bait

Congrats on the mahi mahi and the travelly! They're a little bit elusive but with that much bait, it should have been a piece of cake!
