Wifi rules...

i don't mind if you talk to my villagers. just don't talk to moving ones unless you're picking them up.
don't run on my grass, and try not to run over flowers. i don't mind if its a regular flower but i'll probably be really pissed if you run over a hybrid.

i always check shops before i open gates so yeah
idk i dont like people running on my path because i change it a lot soooo

I have a sign right outside of my train station that gives my only rule. Any flowers that I am particular about are right in that area with my flower clock. If I have a lot of people over, like yesterday with my turnip prices so high, I stand guard over them. Otherwise, I really don't care what goes on, as long as people have fun. I guess I don't do a lot of trading, so it generally isn't a problem having people over. I'm so laid back about it, I would probably shrug it off anyway.

Edit to add: Although I do expect people to have common sense about cutting down trees and taking some of the more rare flowers...I mean, really. You are a guest, you should act like one, not like some heathen off the street.

Yeah alot of peoples rules are interesting to me
I feel like if your doing a trde close the gate after the person comes in most ppl dont know you can do that because in the older games you couldnt.
My rules are do not destroy my landscaping, but you can go wherever and buy whatever, whatever you catch or dig is yours
And i love for people to talk to neighbors
Most of all i just want people to enjoy their stay in my town
I make sure I buy whatever i want to buy and if i want fossils that day ill dig them up, i did have someone who i dont have on my friends list anymore who would just take fruit and leave, so every now and then ill just take the fruit from my trees and put it in retail if u want that buy it then, but alot of people and their "paranoia" puts me off...its not that serious if something goes wrong then just flip the switch

If you are visiting my town, you must hold your breath until you leave, hop on one foot, and only move one square at a time.

I don't really see what's so bad about those, although the third is a little obvious. With the first, you might not want someone to get items before you can buy them (or you might want to buy them so you can resell them and make a bit of profit). With the second, I think it's just impolite to enter someone's town without asking.

I can definitely see the point some people have about rules being silly. I mean "no chopping down trees" should be common sense, and having a bunch of rules listed out can seem uptight or unwelcoming. But I still feel the need to have a rules list (on my blog, not on here), just to make things clear, and I don't think they're too unreasonable. People have different rules/preferences regarding their towns, so it's best to just make them clear instead of making the assumption that it's common sense. For example, some don't mind running on paths, but others might not want visitors to run at all (which is understandable because of grasswear). And some might not mind if visitors shop, but others will. I admit that I'd prefer people to ask first before buying something, since my catalog is far from complete, and I might not have been to the shops yet that day (like if we're WiFing in the morning -- I don't have the Early Bird Ordinance). In past AC games I Wified in, though, I didn't mind visitors buying from the shops at all since I had an extensive catalog.

1. When you get to my town, don't talk to me.

2. Don't move unless I tell you to.

3. Don't talk to my villagers, friend them and back stab them by trampling their territory and scream running around with a shovel in your hand saying that America is a free country, then proceed to feast on the nearest fruits you see and caress them with your moistening lips and feel the wonder of flavor and the ultimate feeling of freedom.

I hate when people do number 3...

If you don't like the rules then don't go to their town, all of those rules you listed on your first post are fair.

Myself being a trader, I have a lot of people on my friends list, if I am not busy then I don't mind opening my gates and someone asking to come over, but if I am waiting to trade with someone then someone just randomly appears and starts wandering around while I am busy, that is extremely rude.

It doesn't take much effort to ask first...

The don't chop down trees etc rule: may seem silly, but you DO get folk who think it's okay to do what they want.

As for buying things from shops: I usually buy my stuff first thing anyway, and if I have I will simply say 'buy what you want, i've done my shopping' but sometimes I may have not had the chance. What's so difficult about simply asking 'is it okay to buy from your shops?' Simple common courtesy goes a long way...

As for alot of people saying that folk are taking the game way to seriously, well.. not really, folk just don't want people turning up in there town and ruining everything they have worked on, people spend alot of time working on their towns and you should respect that. Follow the rules and you can BOTH have fun.

I have actually made quite a good Wi-Fi friend from trading, I trust her enough to let her wander as she wishes without the fear of her stealing, trampling, etc
She still asks before buying anything, and the answer is usually yes but that little bit of courtesy goes a long way ;)
And she doesn't complain about having to type one sentence...

While I DO NOT agree with the ops idea of 'silly' rules, there are alot of silly ones out there, BUT again, if you don't like the rules then don't visit their town, and move on with your life instead of moaning about it. It's their town and they can make whichever rules they wish, end of.

I'm sorry - how are you supposed to ask if you're not on their bf list?

How did you first get their FC? You must have had to speak somewhere else other than on AC, ask there.

Well that would be kind of hard if they're not on tbt but their gates were open...

Then just don't visit, visit someone else who DOES allow random visits...

- - - Post Merge - - -

With the second, I think it's just impolite to enter someone's town without asking.

Exactly, I was waiting to trade with someone and someone I had traded with once just turned up unannounced, then proceeded to start taking my hybrids while I was at the other end of town....

If someone hasn't said specifically whether they like uninvited visitors then I don't see what the problem is of visiting them, if it's a problem with them i'd leave.

When I open my gates I put it on my 3ds friend message so people know they can visit me..

Obviously I'd respect peoples towns when I visit without having to be told - it's a no brainer, I wouldn't like someone stealing my flowers so why would I do that to someone else? But ultimately I wouldn't want to swap codes with those rules that i've mentioned.
