Why do people care?

I'd prefer the villagers to have their houses 100% original, but when it comes to shirt and greetings? Eh, whatevis.

I don't really care that much. Sometimes happens that they get to wear some shirt I don't like, but they eventually will change it again, so...

For me it has to do with the total experience of the villager and their design- I don't care so much if they're original as I do if their 'look' still has a nice flow to it. Usually, their shirt/house will have a theme that works with their character design, etc., and I like that better than just a bunch of stuff that doesn't work well together. Even when I don't know what the original house looked like, it's still jarringly obvious when I go into a villager's house in a dream town and it's been changed around, because it's usually just random items that don't work with the theme.

That being said, I really don't think it matters too much. If I'm paying for a villager I'll pay less for an unoriginal one because I have to tweak it, but I won't refuse it or anything. I don't keep my villagers pristine either, I just try to keep everything visually appealing. I don't think anyone should be looking down on anyone for having unoriginal villagers either, if you go with the flow of the game and give them their requests, etc, then their house is naturally going to change. Everyone plays differently.

I have seen some houses with new furniture that looks awesome. Conversely, I have seen some horrid looking homes, but it can always be fixed. I care more about the character. I'm still trying to get rid of the fish in Diana's house though >~<

I've been to a dream town where a villager had just two items in their house. I would be upset to inherit that.

Sometimes they put it in their house though, and that can ruin the home's originality. I honestly don't care if a villager is original or not because they'll probably end up changing eventually, and a villager is a villager. But some people just like them at their 'default' setting.

I got a villager one time, that wasn't original, and his house was filled with fish and bugs, and other junk, that I didn't like.
I like being the one to give them things to put into their house.
That's the main reason, why I care. I know they're all going to change their shirts, eventually. So, that doesn't really bother me.
It's just their house. His house was so junked up, and it did bother me, for reasons unknown.

tbh, i don't care if they are original or not. They are still the same villager. I generally don't pay attention to their attire xP

The thing about a villager's catchphrase or clothing, is that you can "report" it to Isabelle and it goes back to normal. So I don't understand the extreme need for a villager's originality for clothing purposes at least. I understand the house/furniture thing a little, but I feel like I go into my villagers' houses so little that it doesn't really matter, or I don't really have a need to buy a whole lot of furniture from them.

Sometimes, villagers will also force their furniture on you or buy stuff of their own accord also, so unless you completely 100% ignore them it's really hard to keep the house original. I like sending my villagers letters and making the game feel special and homey to me, so any villager I sell or giveaway in the future (unless I really hated them) will probably not be original.

I enjoy getting a villager that's been loved on, anyway! I say to them, Show me the letters! Show me the furniture and clothing you got from friends! It's cool and makes them unique.

If you report a villager to Isabelle, it doesn't go back to normal.

The catchphrase is like " uh-huh"
and the shirt is far from their normal shirt.

I like their homes to be real original. Shirts and greetings, I don't mind because I can always change greetings back. For some reason though, I have all umbrellas in the able sisters just so they don't change their shirt though.

I always tough that it is because most people don?t want to take the time to change villagers onto the way they wan it, it?s much easier to have them in an original or new state. For instance, making a villager wear the outfit you want takes it?s time (And a lot of spam mails) I remember when I had Marshal and he was wearing a strawberry tee, it was a pain to get him to wear something else x-x.
Also, sometimes their furniture can look very stupid, like the are some villagers with their house full of fish(Yeah fish!) and furniture that just doesn?t look right...
Oh! And their catchphrases XD Don?t get me wrong there is people that are great in giving villagers catchphrases, I bought Ankha from a person from this forum and her catchphrase was "Puny Human" which sounds cool and suits her...

I don't really care about the houses, but for some villagers I prefer them to have their original shirt if that's what looks best on them. I usually prefer the original catchphrases just because it suits them better. For example, Wendy's catchphrase is Lambkins and that suits her better than Beau's catchphrase, Saltlick.

Going back to the topic... I don't have the time to play acnl every day, and I also don't have the time to send furniture or shorts to make a villager look 'fresh' again. I'd rather spend the little time I have having fun and talking with my villagers, than stressing out over why Gaston has a sea bass where his couch should be.

Of course it's entirely possible (and fairly common) for villagers to have a changed shirt, catchphrase and furniture that still look okay. But for some "themed" villagers like Ankha or Zucker, a small change in furniture can make their house look like crap. So it's a bit of a gamble adopting an unoriginal villager, especially if you're anal about looks and/or you're too busy with work or school to change it yourself.

I've read some posters want the villager house 100 % for the sloppy and cardboard items.

I don't care what a new villagers house looks like. The only thing I care about is their greeting. If it's rude it has to go.
Also my villagers requests get filled. During the summer the houses have a lot of fish.
Tutu had two Princess beds in her house. She asked for one to go so I replaced it with a sweet bed. She also has a Throne that she bought from me. Got to keep the popstar happy.

I honestly don't know. You can always change the greetings and the shirts, so I don't know why it's such a big deal. I mean, maybe if they had a bunch of really stupid things in their house I wouldn't be too thrilled, but really, if you want the character, the clothes and phrase shouldn't matter.

i definitely don't think that way. my biggest and only dreamie is lopez and i honestly refuse to have anything less than 100% originality. that's just me. that doesn't suddenly mean that i don't "truly" want him.
i feel that way because when i get a villager, i want them to have a fresh start. i want to experience them like i just picked up my game, started it up, and bam, they moved in. it's someone i like, so i'm happy.
plus, like others have said, i don't want to go through the whole process of trying to fix their house/shirt again. if they mess with their originality when they move in to my town, that's fine -- as long as i'm the one helping them mess it up.
i hope this makes sense. it sounds all jumbled and ridiculous.

It's different for everyone, and I wouldn't judge anyone for it. That being said, I personally couldn't care less.

It's most likely because they don't want to deal with villagers who have out of place furniture in their houses or without their original shirt. They could always get rid of them and change things, but as I mentioned it's considered "trouble" for some people to waste their time on trying to do so. I understand the struggle :/ I bought Chrissy from someone. Her shirt was changed but I didn't care, then I went into her house after she unpacked. Everything was straight up adorable, but there was this one stupid traffic cone in the middle of her cute house and it annoys me so much -_- I can't get rid of it, but I already bought her so I might as well keep her for a few months before selling her. In other words, people want a fresh start on their villagers as if they received them from the void. These are just my opinions though
