I don't want to offend anyone or sound rude! Just an honest question!
Why do people care so much about a villagers originality? I mean seriously people freak out if a villager changes a shirt. Why. Just why? Like i said in just really curious, i would take a charqcter and i dont care about origin

I honestly don't know. You can always change the greetings and the shirts, so I don't know why it's such a big deal. I mean, maybe if they had a bunch of really stupid things in their house I wouldn't be too thrilled, but really, if you want the character, the clothes and phrase shouldn't matter.

Well, some villagers look great with their original shirt

like Chrissy or Stitches

but once they change their shirt, it doesn't make very much sense.

Personally, I'm fine with an unoriginal villager shirt but if the furniture doesn't match and is extremely ugly, I will be really upset.
but honestly i just want my dream villagers

Sometimes when a villager who has a specific shirt (ie- ankha has her mummy shirt, and zucker his flan shirt) and they change id wish they went back to their original, but that only for shirts like that that go really with with their design. otherwise I like when my villagers change because it adapts their look.

I don't personally understand the original villager thing either, but to each his own, I guess! :) Although sometimes, it is weird to get a villager with NO furniture but just lots of fish in their house. You'd like them to look like they actually live there, lol.

The shirt thing, I totally don't get since it's pretty easy to get them to wear what you want them to wear.

Some villagers have a nice original house, catchphrase or shirt and people would probably want to keep it that way without having to constantly send or give furniture and clothing to the villager in order for them to change back to the original.

I agree with you Skyfall. The thing is, i dont use my characters as a trading system, i enjoy them and talk to them daily. I don't care about what they wear or how fishy the house is lol thats why i dont give them fish D;

The animals are supposed to be interactive, you are meant to change the house they live in. It makes them more unique :D

eh, I dunno. but that's why I wouldn't sell villagers. if I'm giving them away for free, less room for complaints. :y lol
besides that, sometimes they acquire new furniture on their own, so... welp.

Same. I've actually heard of people getting bad WiFi ratings because they sold a really unoriginal villager.

I either just like how they look in their original state, or want a clean palette to do whatever with.

Because that's how they want them. It's just what people want. Me, personally, don't care if it's original or not. I couldn't really get myself to care about the interior layout unless it's a huuuge mess and it's very easy to get the shirt back to normal.

The thing about a villager's catchphrase or clothing, is that you can "report" it to Isabelle and it goes back to normal. So I don't understand the extreme need for a villager's originality for clothing purposes at least. I understand the house/furniture thing a little, but I feel like I go into my villagers' houses so little that it doesn't really matter, or I don't really have a need to buy a whole lot of furniture from them.

Sometimes, villagers will also force their furniture on you or buy stuff of their own accord also, so unless you completely 100% ignore them it's really hard to keep the house original. I like sending my villagers letters and making the game feel special and homey to me, so any villager I sell or giveaway in the future (unless I really hated them) will probably not be original.

I enjoy getting a villager that's been loved on, anyway! I say to them, Show me the letters! Show me the furniture and clothing you got from friends! It's cool and makes them unique.

Cant you just gift them the shirt they had on? When i send a villager a shirt they usually wear it

(Hella late)
But uh, sometimes when you gift/mail a villager a shirt, instead of wearing it they'll display it in their house.
(Which annoys me ;;; ) But I try to deal with the fact that they're not as cute as they could be.

If I'm keeping a villager I won't care, I can always give them a piece of furniture they used to have when they ask for one. (Sometimes I give them another furniture that would look better) I'm fine with any shirt as long as it's not that lame duck custom shirt. Imo it's harder to get them to change a shirt, like having to buy 5 of the same shirt and mailing to them sounds annoying.. I've only tried one-three shirts multiple times and it only replaces furniture and not change it. I only did this when they had the custom shirts, but ofc by now I changed them into hats and different designs in ablesisters.

However I got a voided animal, Chow with the duck shirt on my cycling town! Thought I wouldn't have to see it again ;-;
I don't consider him my villager so it doesn't matter!

I don't trade villagers either and I have kept most of the 10 originals that moved in my town randomly or through the campsite.

But I wish they kept their original shirt or wore those I design for them. I find it near impossible to get them to wear what I want. What I give or send to them gets displayed in their house.

The catch phrase I couldn't care less, I alternate between their original one or something close to it. For example, Julian's Glitter will become Sparkle if he wants to change.

As for their house decor, I don't give them bugs and fish but then I don't seem to be able to get their pictures either. And I thought It was possible to give them customised furniture but it doesn't seem to be the case :(

It has to do with wanting to experience a villager as that villager first appears. This refers to the interior of the villager's house as well as the clothing being worn by that villager.

I wasn't conscience of it at first. And it doesn't upset me knowing, after the fact, that I did get any "used" villagers. But, I think some people are also factoring the value with respect to how much one paid at Villager Trading Plaza.
