I time travel. I'm not afraid to admit it.

I don't jump months at a time, but if i'm done with all my activities for the day and theres nothing left to do, i'll jump a day or two so that I can continue playing.

In my opinion, it's really up to the player to decide what the "correct" way to play is.

I paid for the game and supported Nintendo. I should be able to freely play it how I wish without people giving me crap about it.

If you don't wish to time travel, then don't! That's perfectly fine! In fact, in previous AC titles, i've had a few characters that I never time traveled with! It's fun both ways.

But why is it so frowned upon?..

Obviously it was added in the game for those that wish to play at a faster pace.
It's not like Nintendo is blind to the fact that people time travel..
Joan even warns you that her turnips are "very sensitive to time paradoxes", which shows nintendo acknowledges that people do in fact take advantage of the time change feature.
If they really thought it was cheating, then they wouldn't allow you to do it!
They could just automatically update your time zone every time you connect to the internet!

Also, what about people with full time jobs and kids to take care of?
What if they miss out on events and specific time periods due to their real-life responsibilities?..
Is it wrong for them to simply rewind so that they can participate?

It just annoys me how much crap "true" AC players give to time travelers..
I've played AC since 2002..
I'm no less of a "true" player/fan than any of you non-travelers..

Just my opinion.

Thoughts?

Nothing's wrong with time traveling, people who care if you do are just crazy

Seems the hate for TTers have died down a bit. Lots of people are doing it, reguardless of reason. I just don't like it when people try to justify it and try to still make themselves better than other TTers. I doubt ANYONE jumps months at a time, that'd be dumb. We've all got our reasons.. and we aren't any less for doing it.

It's kind of like cheating the game, but that's just my opinion. Personally, I feel like time-traveling takes away from the game. Sure it's a pain to wait for things, but the reward is what makes it worth while.

I don't really care if people Time Travel. But they ones who do and brag about all the cool stuff they got or the things they did, that's what gets me mad. Because they didn't really work for it or wait for it, all they did was skip ahead. Idk.

Personally I don't care but because I'm fairly involved in the online community I try to experience the game as others do. I'm currently TTing from June to get to the current day

Personally I don't care if people time travel or not. It's not an exploit. If they didn't want people to time travel they would have calibrated the time to match the time in your geological area (not the time your 3DS is set to). The fact that you are able to set the time IN GAME and not have to set the time by going to the 3DS clock means that they really don't care whether you do it or not.

It's just frowned upon because they are afraid people will abuse it to get items to sell to other members but other than that, it's not game breaking and it doesn't harm other members in any way.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I STAY IN A 10 DAY RANGE!!!
I cant stand people who time travel to all different times of the year...

I time travel a lot but I haven't really gotten any hate. Also +1 for the last of us

I can see where you're coming from.
I've played without TTing and I understand that you do get a sense of reward from waiting and working towards things.
But now that I have a full time job and college classes to attend at night, I can't afford to play like that anymore.
I believe it's truly situational.
It's not really cheating the game though since we were intentionally given the ability to do so.
If it was cheating, we wouldn't be able to do it.
But again, I do see where you're coming from and I agree to a certain extent.

Also +1 for the last of us

;D

Because people like to act superior in a game, for some odd way,
I have never TT and never will, however we all paid the same for this game, and surely we should be happy that everyone is enjoying the game in a way they want to, and supporting the series through buying it tbh, so i think we should all just stop begrudging those who want to play the game in a way they see fit, and enjoy our own game, its none of our business. In all honesty the discussion on time travelling is just so petty and it does not need to be

Animal Crossing is a game that's meant to be taken at a slow pace and last you for many months.
With time traveling that playtime tends to get shorter and lessen the experience. I don't have a problem with it, I just prefer not to do it.

But who are we to judge how a game is meant to be played? for some animal crossing may be the rush of actually going at a fast pace, and doing things, which simply isnt achievable in real life :)

Being an adult that plays also ( 24 years young ) I have other responsibilities to deal with in my life, like many others have said. So I do TT time to time but never over 10 days. Just so I can get some time into the game other wise it would just be a waste really. If anyone would like to add me just let me know ( send me a message )

I only TT to get rid of ugly villagers. I personally think its fine but if you do it to much it can ruin the fun of the game.

I feel that part of the essence of the game is that you have to wait for things. I like that it breaks apart from the instant-gratification culture we have in the Western World. I personally feel that Time Travelling goes against the spirit of the game and for that reason I do frown upon it.

I used to Time Travel a lot, but with New Leaf I decided I wanted an experience similar to when I first played the Gamecube game, and got on every morning to a new day with new things.

I personally don't time travel on New Leaf, but I don't mind if other people do. In fact, I like playing with time travelers. They are the best people to get hybrids from.

Animal Crossing is about having fun. If time traveling is the way that you have the most fun, then go for it. I don't think that people should give you problems about it.

Some people view time traveling as a form of cheating or exploiting. I personally don't see anything wrong with it and I myself time travel here and there for many various reasons. Play the way you want to play. That's how I look at it. Respect the way I play and I'll respect the way you play.

"Waiting for things" is merely a personal opinion and play style, which is why I believe it's not the best argument to "frown upon" time travellers. Most of the time and I am not saying all, people frown upon time travellers because they refuse to do it themselves yet still wish they had all those things. Time travelling is an obvious feature of the game, it's not hidden in some far away settings or anything. There are so many factors to why people do it whether it be to satisfy personal goals or you just can't get on during the day to play due to other commitments. I have a town that don't TT and I have a town that do. I care about both just as much but waiting is just not really my forte when it comes to casual games like Animal Crossing. I love the game a lot, and I would love to be able t play more often than the game allows in a normal day. Not to mention I can benefit others by doing so and I still sell my things at a fair price regardless of the quantities I have or other people have. I honestly don't think it leaves people at THAT much of an advantage when they time travel. As the OP stated, the features that aren't meant to be beneficial to time travellers have made it that way. There are little bits and pieces of punishments for people who skip mercilessly (meaning a month or two at a time). The most people get are the shops and the items that within a year all the regular players will also get.
