Why are Time Travelers frowned upon?..

I TT forward many times in order to enchance my experience. I limit myself to 5 days. Just a few points:

1) People say it is like cheating. If Nintendo found it cheating, they wouldn't let you change the time. It's not cheating, period.

2) Time traveling allows you to make more of each time you play. Everything is fresh each new game day so it doesn't make you lose interest/quit any faster.

3) People should simply respect other people's decisions and shouldn't say anything disrespectful about it.

These aren't directed at people, just general points of things I see in TT conversations. We should have a rule that says that we can't rant or say anything disrespectful to other people because they're style ofnplay.

this discussion will go on forever, it's not even worth getting into it

sob and whine as much as y'all want, people will play as they want to. and there's not a single argument out there that will make them change their minds. there's no such thing as a non-stubborn person on the internet

go rearrange some flowers or something.

Don't really appreciate the condescending attitude. This is a forum that is meant for discussion.
There's no need to demean this thread simply because you think it's pointless.
I for one think it's a valid discussion.
I'm curious as to what others in the TBT community think about time traveling.

Agreed. Not every debate is pointless, and TTing is a large subject. If you don't like it, then just stay out of it,

-cough- Like I said before I TT a lot. The big reason is because I don't like waiting (even tho that may sound childish) but I find it also fun to skip ahead or backwords a month to get exclusives to that month.

I don't time travel at all. I am patient and like the aspect of playing day to day. I have a lot of other games to play in the meantime.

This is exactly what I do and people should understand not all of us are patient.

it's not pointless, but it has been made thousands of times, even here
every single discussion ends up with no parties agreeing with each other

i wasn't trying to be condescending, and i'm sorry if i sounded like that

It's alright, I understand where you're coming from.
This is a topic that will never reach an end and I don't expect it too.
I just created this thread because I was curious where the majority of this community stood on the subject.

"Waiting for things" is merely a personal opinion and play style, which is why I believe it's not the best argument to "frown upon" time travellers.

Well no cause that's how the game is programmed. I don't have anything against TTers but I personally think it's against the intended spirit of it. It's your game, play how you like.

I think it largely depends on why the person chose to time travel in the first place. Unnecessary impatience and item/bell exploit of the internal clock feature are the two things most people really frown upon. It can be justifiable, I think, but only in particular situations where you couldn't otherwise wait to be rewarded.

I don't agree with time traveling forward a day to finish a public work project, as that's absolutely just impatience. It's giving you an advantage over players who otherwise would not have been rewarded yet. The game doesn't ask you to wait a day for a bench to be built or a week for a shop to open just for you to fiddle with the clock and get instant gratification, it makes no sense and it is deliberately going against the system and storyline provided.

It isn't even debatable that that is indeed taking advantage of the internal clock tool. It's whether or not that is a bad thing that starts discussion like this.

I don't think it is necessarily "cheating"(at least, not on a big scale) unless you're skipping months at a time for bells or exclusive items, but it definitely shows impatience if you get a lot of time to play during the day as it is. It's frustrating to those who wait because it shows an inability to walk around, see what's going on, just be in your own little synced world and have a nice time -- all of that is a huge part of enjoying an Animal Crossing game to the majority of loyal players.

That being said, no one should have to be made to feel guilty for trying to enjoy the game with a full-time job, kids, demanding school, etc. It's just not realistic that they are going to make good progress in the game without at least some time travel here and there, so it makes sense to alter the time to fit their real-life schedule.

I just don't think it makes sense to rush a game like Animal Crossing only because you can. I believe there's a definite line between "playstyle" and just wanting instant gratification, and how people look at your time traveling depends which side you sit on.

You're speaking as if there's only one true way to play the game.
That is entirely opinionated.

Also, you refer to other "true" players being frustrated when others time travel to exploit certain items/events/bells when honestly, how does that affect you? It's not game-breaking as far as I know.

"It's giving you an advantage over players who otherwise would not have been rewarded yet."

That statement implies that you view Animal Crossing as a competition of sorts.. How so?
It's a single player game with multiplayer capabilities.
Now, if it was entirely dependent on multiplayer, then I would understand your frustrations.
But it's a bit asinine to get angry at someone for simply playing the game as they wish.

There's no doubt that the intended nature of the game is to play in real-time and experience the world of Animal Crossing day by day.. But the key word there is "intended".. It's not a fact. It's not required. It's not cheating or breaking any rules.

It's completely up to the player to decide how they wish to play.
And I believe that no matter what their decision may be, they shouldn't be looked down upon or disregarded as a "true" player.

Who are we to judge someone on how they play a game?
We're all just here to enjoy the game as we see fit and as long as it doesn't directly decimate the experience for other players, then I personally see no problem.

I just want to point something out. Animal Crossing is a kid friendly, feel good, free-range game. There is no direct way to play, and all paths are considered true. If you do not time travel, you are a legit player. If you do time travel, you are a legit player. Even people who use glitches in the game are legit. They did not create the glitch and hack. The glitch is Nintendo's own fault.

Think about that before you accuse someone.

I only time travel a little bit, like if I don't have time to play til late at night and some of the shops have closed by then, I'll go back a couple hours, do my business, then set the clock back to normal. Nothing major and it's not unfair to anyone.
As for major TTers, I don't really have a problem with it bc it's your game to play however you like.

There's pros and cons of both. Really shouldn't be a big deal, the problem are those people who are purists and try to push their beliefs on other people because they think they're right. Also, Jealousy.

Gotta say though, the first post is beautiful. You got that animation, it's all centered, you got proof and examples. Delightful really.

I time travel just for fun when I get bored with my current scenery. It's summer now I'll tt to december to play with the snowmen maybe get a snowmen set item. Maybe get gracies gorgeous series. I really don't TT to gain anything so I can feel superior. Just for fun to change.

There's nothing wrong with Time Traveling at all! People who do it aren't crazy; it's their decision to how they should play. I don't frown upon Time Travelers. I respect their decision. I just don't like to do it since I like to take my time like it's real life. But it's perfectly fine for anyone to Time Travel! After all, you bought the game and you can play however you want. You can destroy your town, throw the game away, whatever - but Time Travelers shouldn't be frowned upon. They bought the game, and they decide what to do with it. :)

Completely agree.

And thank you!

And all the power to you! You should be able to play the game however you want!
