Why are the mouse villagers so disliked?

So I was wondering why most people don't like the mouse villagers? To be honest I think they're a cute species and I can even appreciate Moose, Limberg and Rizzo (but maybe I'm just weird lol).

What do you like/dislike about the mouse species in AC?

They are not aesthetically pleasing based on what I observed in different communities.

In my personal opinion, they aren't that bad. I find gorillas more unappealing to me.

The mice certainly are underrated. I genuinely really like Moose and Bella, which tend to be the most hated of the mouse villagers. They're really cool in my book. Another mouse I like is Rod, what's not to like in a jock pirate? He's even one of my permanent villagers in my second file of NL.

I like the mice a lot too. Penelope is my favorite peppy villager overall, and Chadder was one of my permanent villagers in NL. Dora and Broccolo are very cute, Greta and Bree are some of the better snooties, and Rod is one of my favorite jocks. Bella gets a lot of hate, but I really like the punk-inspired villagers so she’s cool in my book. I think the only mice I don’t like are Rizzo and Limberg.

I never get mouse villagers. I think in ac gamecube I anicotti in one town but that's it,ever. I did meet Bettina on a mystery island but i was looking for others and i still regret not taking her. I'd love to have a mouse villager.

I think it has to do with the fact that mice aren't popular pets. Or maybe I'm wrong. I don't think some of them look bad. People hate Moose because of his hair, but I don't see a problem with it. Doesn't help he's a jock, though. A lot of people don't like jocks in this game.

I think Broccolo is really cute, but aside from him, I admit that their designs never appealed to me and that I never gave the mice villagers a chance because I’m pretty picky about villager designs (I’m trying to adjust and give more villagers a chance by cycling one or two of my spots for now). I think there are actually a few that could grow on me like Bettina, Chadder, Penelope, Dora, Rod, Samson.

for me personally it's their design. it's a shame because i think that mice villagers could be one of the cutest species in this game if they were designed differently. hamsters in this game are much cuter in my opinion.

There was a jock mouse who visited my campsite who I didn’t hate, but that’s about as far as my praise goes for the species in-game

I think some of them are pretty cute! Not sure why they are so underrated. I guess the design is just sort of unappealing to most people? Not sure though. My favorites are Anicotti and Bettina though!

It might have to do with the shape of their heads. It's longer or more teardrop than the rabbit/squirrel villagers head. Those who generally complain just want designs to be rounder which makes it "cuter".

They aren't my favorite species but I do enjoy their range of faces. The picture above makes me laugh. I'd like some mouse villagers on my island.

Something about mice just seems to give the designers a real bad time. Imo most of them are uggos. The only good ones are Bree and Rod

I like the mouse species' general shape because they're cute and small with huge ears, like what's there not to love LOL. But it's the individual designs I have a problem with

Why did they take what is essentially one of the cutest base models and give them the GROSSEST faces and colors? Seriously I don't get it. This is why the only mice I like are Penelope (I LOVE how they turned her ears into a bow, love when they do things like that), and I think Bree's design is pretty cute as well. Other than that... they really should've given them some cuter features, or cooler features, or just generally more pleasant-to-look-at features and concepts, because as it stands now, I could only describe most of them as greasy and cheesy (ha), that's what the most of them convey to me.
