Why are tarantulas and scorpions so scary to people?

THEY'RE JUST AS FAST AS YOU ARE
They make me jump when I don't expect them. For the rest, they're kinda whatever. And they only chase you if you're carrying a net, which I never do anymore because I've got a full encyclopedia.

For me, it's the noises they make, that hissing/scuttling noise makes me flinch every time. That, and they're so rare that you never really get used to them. (At least, I haven't.)
Also, literally every time I see one, I hear it first, so I stop moving and look around for it, and then I just see a glimpse of a tail or a leg moving off the screen, or I see it just walking off into the distance behind me, so I walk around to look for it and it's GONE, NOWHERE TO BE SEEN LIKE IT NEVER EXISTED
I swear to jeez they're ghosts

I don't think it scares them I just think it startles them 
I think it's because most of the time/sometimes it just pops out of nowhere and they weren't expecting it, especially if they were running before (while holding a net). And they freak out when they don't have a net because they missed out on an oppurtunity to catch these bugs, and they're hard to catch and they don't come out that much. And also the weird noise they make or their speed (like already mentioned.)

I've not seen one in game yet. I'm starting to really get like, anxious? about trying to catch one. I'm guessing it's like that fear of never knowing when it's gonna pop up. But I'm probably gonna throw my 3DS the first time I hear it, from what other people are describing.
i have a bug phobia in real life so i literally scream when i see those and then laugh because its a game but still its scary to me idk they creep me out ok
I've only ever seen one in game and I didn't know they were in the game, being brand new to the AC franchise, and when I hit a rock with a shovel and this thick hairy thing came out, reared back, and bit me, I wasn't scared, but I sure as heck was startled. Then I tried to find one the rest of the Summer and no luck. I just can't seem to find one anywhere. Ever.
I also haven't heard the noise they make, but I don't wear headphones. I want to hear it, actually. In real life I'm not too great with spiders, but the huge ones in stores or zoos fascinate me. Right now my husband and I and my aunt moved to Kentucky and my husband and I are living out of suitcases in an unfinished basement. The sheer SIZE of spiders here is amazing and now I'm more creeped than ever. But that's real life. I'm still wanting badly to find and catch one in New Leaf.

they are just an annoyance to me, i am more thinking "really...?" with an annoyed tone than scared. then comes the I WILL GET HIM...and hour after trying to get revenge.

I have only seen one scorpion and it wasn't pleasant. I came back from the Island after some bug catching and fishing, in a hurry to cash in at retail before they closed, I was running to retail and caught a glimpse of something running behind me, slowing down was a mistake It attacked me and screen went blank and I was back at my house. At the time I wasn't aware that there was scorpions or tarantulas or that they will chase you! I haven't seen another since, but I still need both for my encyclopedia.

Lol! The bees don't scare or startle me anymore, probably because for as many bees as I catch I still get stung as many times. I now just stand and go, "Fine. Just sting the heck out of me. I'm used to it by now."

I've caught a tarantula. I forgot how though, since it was last summer.
As for the scorpion, I saw it once, but I was carrying my net for some reason and it made me faint in game. I don't know why people get scared over it, but I can say that I was a bit shocked. I didn't have nightmares over it, so it wasn't that bad.
