I currently have two towns but it's really bugging me, because I only really like to have one town that I put all my effort in to, running two at the same time just gets on my nerves. So one of them needs to go but I can't decide, because they each have their pro's and con's. So I'm hoping coming here will help me to decide.

Map One:

I feel like this map is nice because everything has a place in it, there's no random bit of land that goes untouched, everywhere is either a path, a pwp or a flower garden or orchard. I've landscaped it quite well and it fits everything in.

I don't like however where my campsite is, it's not as nice as in map 2. I also don't like how big the area my house is on is, no pwp project looks 'right' in front of my house so it's just a gaping hole.

Map Two:

I love where my house is on this map, it's the perfect sized land and I can hear the sea from inside my house!

I also love how open the top-right corner is because it has made the perfect spot for a big forest with my campsite, the fire pit, the log bench and the torch

But I really don't like the area in the middle with the town hall and retail, it just feel really boxy because the path goes around both of them and back up to the top so there's just a lot of squares and it feels a bit limited.

I really can't choose between them D:

I personally like the second map better!! Now entirely sure why, it just looks easier to work with in my opinion!

I really like the first one a lot. There are only two ponds, plus I love southern facing waterfalls (I wish I had one in my current town but I was so happy with the placement of the AI's buildings that I was willing to sacrifice that). I like that the town tree, hall, and Retail are all in one section-ish of the town. Because that gives you free reign and nothing to have to work around in all the rest of it. And I like that island-like piece of land in the middle. Your house is pretty secluded in both, which I personally love doing, but it's cool that the ramp to the beach is so close in the first map as well!

Also, in terms of what you could do with your house, I had a similar one in my first town and I put a tree-lined path in front of it and around my house and then just landscaped with flowers and four leaf clovers in the spots between the trees. Not sure how your campsite is landscaped in it, but it is nice that it's next to a pond too! Water feature by campsite is always nice!

They both have good points, as you know!
I like the vertical ramp and mid location of R-Tail of map 2. I like the large private beach of map 1.
Personally I would keep both, well until you are a lot surer in your mind that you want to demolish one. (& I'd only do that to reset for a new town).

You don't have to play both. Put one in 'freeze' ie make a note of when you last play, date & time and you can then always go back to it by altering the time either on the 3ds itself or with Isabelle at the front screen, to a short time after you last played.

Multiple towns are very useful - presuming you have them in different 3ds's, you can collect signatures, sell turnips etc.
If they are in the same system, well I would still freeze one and put the question to one side for a while. Depends I suppose if you want to sell (if its a cart game).

I like the nooks that both your houses are placed in and like the second one better and the pond right next to the campsite is great! I do feel bad for anyone who has to live near the train tracks though.

I'm wondering why does one of them need to be deleted? You could just not play it. Are you planning on resetting?

I like the first map a lot. Having the town hall, town plaza and Re-Tail together at the top makes it look tidy. I also like the "private" area in the middle that's surrounded by the river. That's probably where I would have put my house.

If I just stopped playing one then it would always be in the back of my mind that I have this other town to tend to. And I don't time travel so I wouldn't want to freeze it on a certain day and then go back to it.

So I just want the one town, I'll reset the other and probably give it to a friend for Christmas lol

Map one, I like having everything in a line at the top!

I personally like Map 2 better, since you can hear the ocean sounds in your house and you can do all sorts of decorating around your campsite in that map. :) Also, even though Re-tail and the Town Hall is kinda boxed up together, if you go to the island often to catch bugs and sharks, things like that, you can quickly go to your Re-tail to sell them, since it's not a short distance from the dock. Both of the maps are pretty good though.

And this popped into my mind also. If you're gonna reset one of your towns, and if you have two different native fruits, then I guess it's best to make a profit out of it by selling it from your towns back and forth before deleting. Also, if you have items you still want in the town that you're gonna reset, you can transfer it to your other town. :)

I have voted for map numero uno! Landscaping can be quite hard, especially with the random rocks and uneven # of tiles, yet you still fitted everything in to your liking. I think that is a massive pro, because.. what if the landscaping on the second map won't turn out as good?

I think the cons of map #2 outweigh the cons of map #1. The ReTail and town hall are important and frequently visited buildings, so if something about the location or environment bothers you, you'll be reminded every single time you pass it. x-x I would not pick that situation, unless you are very confident that you can landscape around it well enough to cover up. Other than that, nah.
The same thing could be said about the big open space infront of your mayor's home, but there's no empty space that flowers can't fix, right? .. RIGHT?

Lastly, I would rather not see a camping site near a train track like it does on map #2, because it feels so unnatural to me. I could imagine the campers being woken up by every single train x) so #1 looks more ideal. kinda makes me wish I had not placed my own camping site in such an "unnatural" spot ;l oh well

Anyways, that's just my 2 cents. Good luck choosing!

I'd pick the first one although personally the ramps being so close to eachother would bug the hell out of me... :(

I love map 2! Everything has its own space. The villagers are grouped together and it's nice to have your own space as the mayor! I'm actually kind of jealous of your map 2 lol xD

I like map 2. It's very spacey! Although space might not be your type of thing and you like being surrounded by your villagers, I personally love it.
I'm still surrounded by my villagers though..

I voted for map 2, but only because I think you could take away the "boxiness" of it by editing where you paths are, maybe adding some trees where they are, so you're sort of forced to not go through them.

A story about how I changed my town multiple times:
I went through a few different path placements before I finally just stripped my town of everything, including my villagers, and mapped out my town on graphing paper, square by square. I then put the town hall, retail and police station (since I had already built it before this) on the graphing paper and designated areas for my villagers. I didn't want them in a super specific spot, just in a general area, because I wasn't going for a "planned" look, so if they plotted in a general area, I was happy with it. Then I mapped out my dirt paths and put trees/bushes and placed PWP displays where it was fitting.
Before I had done all of this, I was very close to starting the town over, but since I had done so much already, and I had all of my dream villagers as well, I just kept the same map and worked with what I had.
Now, I'm really happy with how things are (with a few exceptions that I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do), and there's not a "boxy" or "planned" feeling like there was before. It just looks like my villagers naturally placed their houses and the paths are perfect and feel... correct.

I feel like you could do a similar thing, in that you just remove some paths and put trees in it's place. Having paths everywhere will more than likely make your town feel boxy, so take the one in between retail and town hall away. I would make it go under the pond to the left instead, because that wouldn't be the shortest, and therefore, the boxiness of the area would go away as well. Also, if there's a path to/from the villagers houses (in the top left) and the train staton, I would get rid of that and put a bunch of tees so that neighborhood is sort of secluded.

Anyways, I hope my input helps at least a little bit, and if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. c:

I voted for map 2 because I always like more space, and I don't see much open space on map 1. I don't like having the town hall in the middle either, but it is easier to work around that the snake river in map 1. I also like the vertical ramp leading to the dock. It just feels more natural than having a horizontal ramp.

Right now I'm leaning towards map 1 just because it's much easier to landscape.

Maybe in map 2 if the buildings were in different places it would be better but I can't change that unfortunately.

I do prefer where my house is in map 2 but I might have to scrap that to have a more organised town.

This is so hard!

I picked map two, even though it has so many ponds, simply because I really don't like those cramped, windy rivers like in the first one. I also like the plaza location in that one, plenty of room to landscape around it so that events and such will look really nice.

I voted for map #2, mostly because I don't like having a private beach and because I prefer the river in the second map. ^_^

I really like both, but I choose the second one. The fact that the first one has a 'private beach' bothers me. :C
