With two major updates to ACNH and one to ACNL, which update did you think do the best job to Animal Crossing?

For me, I’m going with Welcome amiibo. ACNH 3.0 didn’t introduce as much content as either of the other two updates, and ACNH 2.0 was just a finish of a half-baked game with many content from ACNL still missing (and when they did return some features from ACNL, they were watered down). But Welcome amiibo was a nice surprise that greatly improved ACNL.

Regardless of what update was better, the way Nintendo updated ACNL and ACNH was a better way of handling expansions to Animal Crossing rather than how they did it with City Folk (where they released a whole new game that was too much like the previous rather than reinventing the wheel like what they did with ACNL). As I previously said, City Folk was to Wild World as Welcome amiibo was to New Leaf. And Welcome amiibo was to New Leaf as either of these versions were to New Horizons.

I think the features added to ACNH in 2.0 should’ve been there from the start (except maybe HHP) but it was the update with the most content. I dont know, it’s hard to compare updates between 2 different games. 3.0 was a nice surprise but it didn’t make huge additions like 2.0 did. And welcome amiibo was partly locked behind paying for amiibos, so.. I think ACNH 2.0 was best. But I loved them all.

The ability to craft from storage, eliminating the need to carry around stone, iron and wood taking space in my pockets makes it worth the upgrade entirely on its own without the additional features, we need more ‘ease of life’ updates like this throughout game releases in future

This is the best upgrade so far compared to the others weve been given

I will say ACNH 3.00 because I am a newer ACNL player, so I haven't seen all of the goodness that people talk about. And Kapp'n is my goat

I'm kind of torn. I loved the 2.0 items a lot more than the 3.0 items, but the randos walking around my island makes me really happy. I know it's a hated feature but I adore it. It feels like there is life on my island, and I don't care about a 'ruined' aesthetic (they leave after a day anyway I don't get how it 'ruins' anything). 3.0 didn't really bring too much of new items anyway. I don't care for the hotel as I already am beyond burned out from HHP so the hotel just felt like more of a chore, but the visitors make up for it. I just wish you could invite them to stay.

ETA: Crafting from storage is goated too.

Update 3.0 because the QoL help was appreciated but not expected. Update 2.0 was advertised but 3.0 came out of nowhere because most of us thought after 2.0 that they weren't going to give us any more updates. In fact, I thought that for S2 they were going to ignore NH and release AC6 instead.

3.0 made me super happy. I LOVE the hotel and the silly tourists walking around, especially former residents! I even saw some dreamies! (Pietro has came a total of 4 times now.) The Kiddie Items really help my Island theme while bringing another cheap car substitute (look out, car bed users!), and I enjoy the other new items as well! (looking at you, Lego.)

I guess by default welcome amiibo is my favourite update as that's the only one I've actually experienced the benefits of, as of these two games it's the only one I've played. It was pretty cool though, I remember when I was little I had the regular pre-update new leaf, but then when I got the actual game card for it a few years later it was welcome amiibo, and I was really excited with all the differences and upgrades

The 3.0 update is my favorite because of all the little changes that make my regular gameplay more enjoyable. Including bulk crafting, using materials from anywhere, cleaning up my island easily, and seeing the random hotel villagers running around. I started playing NH after 2.0 so I'm not sure how the earlier versions were different. Welcome Amiibo was an appreciated update when I played so much NL. It added more content and gave me another reason to collect and use amiibos.

Both the 2.0 and 3.0 updates are my favorite for adding new items, villagers and things I could do. Like the new hotel on my island and the going to work for Lottie back in 2.0 was a neat thing. I can’t wait what the new Animal Crossing may bring, whenever that comes.

Welcome Amiibo without a question. NewLeaf was already complete day 1 and just relied on my progress and not some timelocked update that Nintendo decided to release whenever they decided it was time. So it was crazy that they added so much more to a game that was already 3 years old by that point. Which doesn't sound like much now, but back in 2013-2016 that was unheard of.

2.0 fixed a lot of problems and added some nifty features.

However, 3.0 has been a game changer. FINALLY, crafting has been streamlined. The only other thing I would have loved in terms of QOL improvements regarding crafting is the ability to craft an item, while at the same time crafting an item that you need for the secondary item. For example, I would have loved to craft a "regular" tool while crafting a flimsy one. It would make things easier to do it in one go.

I am not a patient person, so prior to the 3.0 update, I was hardly crafting anything. This was mainly because we had to have the materials in our pockets, and I found it to be annoying how we had to constantly take things in and out of our storage. Good riddance to THOSE days! Bulk crafting is GREAT for fishing bait and for hotel requests, but the real game changer is being about to FINALLY pull materials from our storage.

It is also easier to get the mermaid themed furniture and clothes. This was a bit tedious prior to the 3.0 update. Before the 3.0 update we would only get a pearl, OR a mermaid DIY recipe or clothing. This could cause our pearls to mermaid DIY recipes ratio to get unbalanced. This, along with the inability to pull materials straight from our storage, made me not bother with the mermaid furniture in NH until the 3.0 update, despite it being a favorite set of mine since the New Leaf days.

But now we get both. We even start getting TWO pearls at one point. :,)

I have a room dedicated to mermaid furniture and I want to eventually craft some additional mermaid furniture that I intend to place near my beach. Sometimes, mermaid furniture will be a hot item at Nookling's. And now even the hotel has it for requests at times. I need pearls more than ever. Plus, I need my daily dose of wisdom from Pascal.

Welcome Amiibo without a question. NewLeaf was already complete day 1 and just relied on my progress and not some timelocked update that Nintendo decided to release whenever they decided it was time. I did play other games that got updates every once in a while, with more exciting updates happening more rarely. But Nintendo games, you’re right that it was not normal for them to receive updates like this.

If only New Leaf had the ability to move buildings around and wait for player approval to move a villager out, I wouldn’t have abandoned it sooner.
