I started with the
Game Cube version back in 2004 when it first came out in Europe, and here's what I disliked:
- The storage system
sucked. Come on, only 3 items?
- Animals could repaint your roof, and they would
randomly do so, and this could not be prevented. That always made me angry...
- You could not prevent a villager from moving out. Some villagers I really liked vanished the next day, that was awful.
- You had to mail fossils to some museum, and that was tedious.
- The balls... It was very hard to get the ball to the villager who requested for one.
- You were unable to change the wallpaper and flooring of your basement. I know, it was supposed to be the actual storage room, but everyone I knew (including me) just saw it as an extra room.
- Speaking of rooms, you could only have your main room, an attic and a cellar. It wasn't until Wild World where you could have more rooms.
- You could run out of ink while writing something. That was dumb.
- Saw a gift/present on a balloon? Better hope that it gets stuck in a tree, because there is
NO other way to get it down (slingshots did not exist yet)!
But, there are other features that were extremely nice, like the fact that on the southern island, you got a
free house! And you had NES games in it! The password system was very practical as well (90k bells everyday)! Also, getting a golden shovel was easier, and by doing so, you got a tree with golden leaves which looked really nice in your town
I tend to forgive Animal Crossing: Population Growing because it was one of the first in the series, so obviously it won't be "as advanced".
It was still a good game.
