You could always see if someone will hold them for you if you restart.

You could always be nice and sell them for less, so others can obtain their dreamies :') But if you're funding a reset, I sort of understand. (I just think anything over 10mil for a villager is ridiculous, personally - especially for people new to this site or new to the game, who just want to have certain cuties who HAPPEN to be high tier, idk)
If you want to start over, now's the time to go for it, but keep in mind you can also work around these issues. Would you rather go to the trouble of getting all your preferred villagers back just because one of them has left? I sure as hell wouldn't. I lost Pashmina, Rosie, and Kidd over the past month and I'm still playing the same town. Peruse the Animal Crossing wikia or lists of characters until you find others that you like, I say, and track those down instead. In a game with 300+ characters, I'm sure there must be another one or two that catch your eye enough to fill the hole that your moved-out dreamie has left you with.

You could go through with the 16 villager cycle if you're willing to work hard to get that dreamie back. I know what you mean, though. I've been considering the same thing myself with Tanuki. But if your town has a lot of PWPs, nice flowers, etc. I don't think it's worth it.

You could sell them if you wanted to, but it also depends on how much work you've put into your town. If not that much work is put into it / you haven't had it for very long, restarting might be good because you'll be beginning with a clean slate.
However, if you're far along and if you feel like you would regret losing everything, cycling out the villagers might be a good choice. ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)

Sorry I'm a little late to the party. Thanks everyone.
I have Three of my dreamies including Kid Cat, Merengue, and Coco while my town isn't developed in terms of PWPs I have some nice paths with a Bamboo/Bush trail.
On a Side note: Where does everyone get these Town/Dreamies signatures?

You can get signatures from people here on the forums. My personal favorite sig makers are Kitsunenikki and Simple . They're super nice and super good at making signatures <3
