What is the big deal about time travel, anyway?

Ok, so, this is only referring to people with a holier-than-thou attitude towards TTers. I'd just like to point out a few of the common reasons people give why time travel is ~wrong~ and provide a rebuttal from my perspective.

It's not how the game was meant to be played!
I have seen many people describe Animal Crossing as a "life sim." If your life consists of being the only human in a world of charismatic animals who talk, then I guess maybe this is a life sim for you? But let's just pretend that Animal Crossing is a life simulator for a bit. Maybe I don't want to live two different lives at exactly the same pace? Real life is always so full of monotonous waiting, and I didn't buy the game to get that x2. I'd like to remind you that the creators of the game were the ones who put the option to change the clock into the game; it's not a hack/glitch/whatever. Think about this honestly: if you could time travel in real life with such minimal consequences, wouldn't you? You wouldn't be all, "That's not how irl was meant to be played." You would go back in time and invent the light bulb or something. Or go forward to get that game that isn't coming out until like next year. But you can't because real life isn't a game. Animal Crossing, on the other hand, is. In other words, the game was meant to be played however you want, because it's yours and you payed money for it and that's all that matters.

It gives TTers an unfair advantage over people who don't TT.
It really, really doesn't. Anyone is free to time travel if they wish. If they choose not to, then power to them. (: This isn't even a competitive game. Kinda silly.

They're just going to get bored of their game sooner like that.
This is just plain generalization. I set my game to the right time and didn't time travel for a month, and I was losing interest. But, like, why does it matter to you if someone else "ruins" the game for themselves, anyway? That has nothing to do with anyone else. I hear Animal Crossing: New Leaf is trading in for like $20 right now at GameStop. That's half the cost of another game, give or take.

Again, this is not a stab at everyone who doesn't time travel. I've just seen too many treat it as some despicable act and I just

I don't time travel and never will, but the people who act superior and look down on those who TT really, really grate on me, We all paid the same money for this game, and therefore we can all play it how we wish

I feel like a lot of the hostility over this is because everybody keeps bringing it up. TTers have their reasoning and so do others. Nobody has to prove anything to anyone, and you don't have to like other player's choices. If we just acknowledge that we all exist and we all play the game regardless of our choice of gameplay, because we enjoy the game, then we can just ignore the ignorant people who continue to put down others based on their choices. People won't 100% agree, and posts like this only create a bigger wedge in our community. But that's just my opinion.

Please, everyone...this is not an argument we want on the boards. The OP seems to me to be someone that just wants to hit buttons. This is his first post after joining today. Please...let this go.

Oh for the love of...

We've had this conversation countless times. You're not convincing any anti-TTers to your side, all you're doing is basically appealing to your own TTers that you love.

Also, I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "simulation". It IMITATES life. That does not mean it has to be a complete copy of what life is. For example, the Sims is a life simulation, but magic doesn't exist (Makin' Magic, Apartment Life, Supernatural expansion packs for 1, 2, 3, respectively), now does it? Animal Crossing is a SIMULATION.

In any case, I refuse to let people who Time Travel into my town.

oh my goodness! thank you for writing this! I do time travel and I find it silly just how people overreact about it! I personally find the game more fun when I time travel then if I waited for things to happen. Time Traveling keeps me interest in the game, otherwise I probably wouldn't play it at all. When I work on my orchards and things, I like to time travel until they're complete. It also helps to keep the other players, (my sister), from killing them when she plays. Its my game, I should be able to play how I want. :P

You're playing the game in a way it was not designed to be played. It's unfair because you will have access to many things that legitimate players will not have until much later.

The main point is it doesn't matter if you time traveling. It's all opinion to whether or not it "ruins" the game, but there is absolutely no sound argument to why other players time traveling hinder the experience of everyone else who plays the game.

But I was trying to be as non-offensive as possible, though. I don't get why you think that.

LOL

If everyone would just s/u about TTing then there wouldn't be any arguments or "sides" taken. We would all just be happily playing our games without the need to announce HOW we play to everyone else.

Does it really matter. Like your playing it alone at your house so who is gonna stop you if you want to TT?

The people against it, will always be against it. Those for it, will always be for it. Those who don't care (like myself) Will continue to not give a ****tle about it.

Pick up your DS, Play how you want. End of story.

I'm so sick of people being stubborn and not understanding what TTers are trying to say. Maybe puppy is only trying to say how we have no advantages, we have nothing different than other people.

I'm not going to reply any further to this. People who refuse to be with TTers, play with them or even talk about them, lose some fantastic, friendly players.

I would love to TT to get further, the only reason I don't is because it'll mess up the dates on my town tree (when you sit on it and it brings up the town's history) and I know it'll really stress me out if it's not right xD

i dont even understand why u need to fight o h my god its a game.. ur fighting over animal crossing.........................

its Time travel!!!!!!! It doesn't hurt you!!!! i cant believe people need to fight about it and look down on them

No, it's not that people don't understand. It's because it's constantly reiterated and people start beating a dead horse. And a lot of people are acting like everyone is against TTing. You made a community about it.. and a lot of people who don't TT still support you guys. But you're not going to get everyone to agree with you, you're just not. If they want to play that way and not play with TTers, that's their choice. TTers have their reasoning, others have their reasoning, but we don't have to be cramming it down each other's throats all the time.

I agree that people should play however they want. I did not make this thread to convert people, or argue/whatever and I'm not going to argue now. It's just my take on TT. People seem to think I was trying to start something, and if it seemed that way, then I'm sorry, I guess.

This type of thread always (and I do mean always) starts an argument between the two groups. Since you are new to the board, I guess you may not have known that. There are some things that just are not mentioned on the board. If you want to air your views, join the group that is made for whichever group you lean towards. You can find the groups HERE.
