I imagine white nothingness and this weird narrator talking to them telling them where to go then they find a random town in the world, but they reset so they don't have the same data as when you had them, kinda like they are a brand new copy.

I always pictured the void as just a pitch black place.. like space or something.. and they're all just floating around aimlessly

"Going to the void" is a nicer way of saying "dying."
All of the villagers you accidentally move out or regret moving out go to heaven.
The ones you purposefully kick out that got on your nerves go to Hell.
