Just from my own experiences, I offer you some advice:
1 - going light, blond, even those pastel colors, and red will require a lot of touch up. One of my friends has naturally black hair, she was blond for years and was getting her hair done every three weeks to cover her roots. My hair takes the color really well, but it fades within a matter of weeks. If I do anything drastic, I would be in the salon every 6 weeks - it gets expensive. Try and think what happens when it grows out.
2 - never go red unless you are like 1000000000 percent sure. I dyed my hair a dark red for a few months, then I changed my mind and tried to go back closer to my natural. It's been over a year, four color jobs later, and it finally stopped showing through. My friend had bright red hair (pink at one point) for a few years, and she recently changed it. Still a year later and she can't get the red out.
3 - think about the damage of bleaching hair. I saw a few people recommended an ombre. I had that a few years ago and the bleach destroyed my hair. My ends were honest to god crispy. I ended up cutting it off and growing it out.
If you are set on colouring your hair, especially for the first time, I would do something that is low maintenance. Since it is close to fall and winter, you could get away with going a level or two darker (not too dark - you don't want to look too pale), and perhaps some dark low lights.
