What Did You Accomplish On Your Island Today?

@SandiMacD I hear ya. Twenty years ago I'd have jumped on a lot of these technical challenges with no problem. Now I mostly talk myself out of them. I still haven't taken the plunge and attached my Switch to my PC so I can transfer the pictures--I did find a tutorial and it's easy (just tether them with a USB cable) but I find a half-dozen excuses not to do it regardless.

Some days I work on things, and other days I try to talk myself into working on them. Today I ripped out all my farm crops so I can fix up that section maybe closer to how I want it. It's going to also involve tearing out a bridge but I got sidetracked and forgot to order that. It also was a great time to harvest the crops as pickled vegetables was a hot item today so I made about 100,000 bells on those.

I took a little ride with Kapp-n and while there caught four sturgeon and an oarfish. At least I have something decent now to sell to C.J. when he comes!

Then I went to the vacation island and fixed up a place for Tangy and her bright colors gave me the courage to try that in my own game house, at least for the time being. I came back and Greta was wanting an inn with a hot springs so I decided Drake's bread restaurant would be great for that so Drake got a second floor with two sort of bedrooms, and a hot springs area outside. I've also ordered quite a few things from Wardell's catalog. I wanted to come back and throw everything out of my house into storage so I can start a proper redo but decided better of it as I have a real-life project I need to get busy on and finish.

I did play a bit tonight. I wish I had more food hot items, have lots of produce and fish! Nearly all my hot items require "wood-wood" which is the scarcest for some reason. I have nearly 600 hardwood, over 400 softwood and I yet I struggle to keep enough wood-wood to even craft stone axes. I ended up having to use flimy axes tonight.
I was just getting the knack of catching wasps this week and then tonight I got stung 4 times! I kept turning her in towards the tree instead of facing the nest.
I felt bad about my last post. I don't mean to rant.
I have enough clothes now that I can actually model the type of outfit that Labell is asking me for.
I haven't hit on good solution for crops yet. I had them all together in one large block but discovered that the balloon drops can't land on them like they do on grass or flowers. They just vanish. So now they are in borders around villager houses and that makes it hard to water. So maybe I will try smaller plots??

Wood is hard for me to find as well. All my items for the box at the hotel need wood.

Avalon-

Recently we had ceremonies for the hotel and cafe. I made another hotel room this one was ranch themed.

Leif is here so bought and planted a bunch of yellow lilies.

Crescent

Said goodbye to Puck.
Recently welcomed Roscoe to Crescent.
Started to decorate his yard . Planted bamboo. Still need to craft the furniture for his yard.

I don't even try to fill every order with Kapp'n--there's no point, I'll get there when I get there. I also don't bother with the majority of 'hot items'. I keep a small stream of wood coming in by having a bunch of coconut trees along the beach and whenever I harvest them (most go to gifts, the remainder gets sold to count toward fruit sales) I also whack them for wood. I do the same on the trips with Kapp'n. I usually have about a hundred regular wood on hand and when I start running short on hardwood I just buy the shovels and add iron, or if I remember customize the one I already have. I mostly sell hot items when they use iron or rock or clay, or in the case of today with pickled veggies. I had my crops in 6x6 plots and when a balloon would come over I'd just go to the other side and wait for it. Since I'm currently in the midst of redoing that whole acre I don't know how they'll end up by the time I'm done.

Today I overhauled my campsite area. There were two empty areas around it that I decided to work on. After looking at the decayed guardian prop that was sitting there, I decided to make a small ruins area, consisting of a glowing moss pond, ruined pillars and chairs, and finishing it off with some glowing moss around. Then for the other area, I added a simple bonfire and log benches around it. Near it I also added a wishing well and signpost. I also ordered some items for future work I plan to do on my beaches, as they don't really have much on them right now. Usually I gift a cherry to everyone in town each day, but I simply didn't have time today.

Today was mostly a clean up day. I didn't want to get involved in something like room creation in case I had a visitor. Sort of loosely arranged not a sure thing.
Did a bit of bug collecting, fishing, cropping and picking up twigs and weeds, etc. Sorted out some clothes between my 6 characters so they don't have so many duplicates. Lief was here today but I had already made a trip to Harves Is. yesterday I so wasn't in need of anything.

Today Red Rooster (Benedict, maybe??) is asking about moving out. He's red and lazy, lives in room looking like a kid's backyard with toys and stuff. He's sort of entertaining but since I have 2 more lazy ones (Sly & Boomer) plus Goose (lazy jock) I encouraged him to leave. I think I will invite Grizzly as a replacement. I have grown fond of Boomer. He was my 3rd random move-in. Has become my adorable "pet", makes me laugh.

I totally forgot yesterday to say I got Chadder's photo. Today I got Hamphrey's--again. It must be about time for us to say good-bye as I've enjoyed both of them but I also like change, and maybe one of these days I can get another jock.

I stripped my house of furniture and cleaned out and sold a whole lot of stuff from my storage I'll never use. I also ordered another bridge one tile away from one that crosses diagonally, the reason being how the pathways meet up in a particular area--I want to see if two bridges work out better. C.J. was in town today so I made bank on all those fish I caught on that island yesterday and used a good part of it to pay for the bridge.

Baabara was a hotel visitor so I made a VIP suite for her. I haven't seen her in an age! She was in pretty much all my old games except GC so I decided a spa room was in order for her tired old feet.

I worked some on the inside of the house, set up a kitchen in the back room and some collection of stuff in the main room. The right side has a set of Simple stuff, left side has the bathroom which I really like. The top floor is currently bare and may be for a few days.

Flick was in town so he had bugs and took three ladybugs for a model. After dark I strayed off a pathway into some trees and a tarantula got me.

I went to the vacation island and I had a certain something in mind for doing, and this is where in my opinion that dlc falls short, in that there are scripted events that you can't get out of when they come up (the events are fine, being forced into them is not). I was made into making a vacation home for Cookie. I also ordered some more stuff from Wardell; it should be what I need to finish the Simple series.

For my kingdom, I found the last finned shark last night- just need a pond fish and fish will be done!

I was annoyed though, Kappn sent me to a snowy island, instead of an island where I wanted to find bugs, before finding out I thought 'ah okay, it's December! I can look for that spiny lobster but nope, wasted so much time. I did go on a nook mile ticket but I was too tired to focus DX

Spent time on hybrid flowers again and boated to 3 islands to get wood. Back in Jan-Feb, I had way more wood than I ever needed. But as the game advanced I was required to get flowers, bushes, furniture items, hedges and grow gardens of produce if I wanted 5 stars and wanted nook miles achievements. I had to take out many of my trees to make room for all that. I am down to 95 trees but 12 are bamboo and 18 are money trees so really only 85 produce wood.

The only way I can see to get enough wood for both tools and hot items (plus the Happy Homes Paradise just asked me for 30 wood-wood) is to go to mystery islands and chop there. One was bamboo which didn't help me and one had only 6 or so coconuts. Thankfully the 3rd had cherry trees plus coconuts.

Also went to Harvs Is again today (X3 this week) as I need red tulips. I have been waiting for them to show up in Nooks Cranny these past few weeks and no luck there or on Harvs.

Does anyone know if bamboo needs to remain unchopped for a while in order to regenerate shoots? I got bamboo back in Jan and the first few days 3 of them produced shoots I could dig up. But its been over 2 months now and no other shoots have ever shown up. The only thing I can think of is that I chop it every day. I guess I will stop chopping for a week or so and see if that helps.

Today was the third day I invited Grizzly into my campground. Had to make him 2 tables and a torch to win him over. He said yes so should be moving in tomorrow.

Got a metronome balloon drop today for my music room.

I am toying with not trying to keep a 5 star island. If I pull up my items, hedges, flowers, etc and fill the land with trees again I won't have to make mystery island trips every day.

Probably the only reason I even try to get to 5 stars is for the gold watering can, but as long as you're just building up your town as you go you'll get there soon enough (I did not even realize I had until I asked Isabelle one day to find out if I needed more fences). In my case I plopped down any furniture that seemed appropriate (much of it from balloons--I still don't even have the DIY cards for some of the things I want), like grab 5 flower bags and stand in a spot and 'plop, plop' until I had them planted, fenced in various places, planted two crop fields (roughly 6x6). I dug up a lot of trees and stuffed them into storage along the way and replanted very few of them because I just did not want that many trees. Instead of chopping so much wood for money I did a lot of diving to pay off the mortgages, then only do hot items when I have a lot of what it needs, like stone or clay or iron. Now I'm in tear-down and rebuild large sections mode, which will likely take me down from five stars until I get it put back (but don't ask and Isabelle won't have to tell LOL).

My big achievement yesterday was ordering the rest of the books I forgot to order to build the bookshelf, and ordered a few things from Wardell's catalog. And last night (Saturday for my game) I remembered to listen to K.K. Slider.

I think I run out wood because I play with more than one character and I have two more that are awaiting full expansion storage. Three characters are all set for everything and I use them only if they have the hot item of the day. Which usually requires wood-wood. My island trees seem to give less than 20% wood-wood.

The remaining three need more money right now to pay off their storage. I dive with them but a run to fill 40 slots takes me a good 40 minutes and it gets boring to do both characters more than once a day. I do like chopping trees and making stuff to sell. It's more interactive with trying to catch wasps, spiders and a chance of acorns, pinecones and furniture drops if shaken. Plus on land I get villager interaction requiring me to run errands or play games or visit. All that is interesting and fun.

I like gardening because it forces me to problem solve how much I need for which recipe and how to arrange flowers for hybrids. But the produce harvesting doesn't bring in that much money unless some food item is "hot".

I also realize the push for making hot items right now is temporary. One of the 3 characters needing upgraded storage will have their final storage completed tonight and then I have just two more to go. And once they are all upgraded, I won't have the (self compelled) need for hot items to bring in so much money.

Perhaps I should take a break from the storage upgrade needs of these last 2. Nothing is gained by getting it done sooner rather than later. Might be best to switch focus to getting my 30 Happy Homes done by Nugget, my main character.

This thread has really helped me! It's nice to think this through by writing it down. Makes sense to me now why I am always short of wood. I brought it upon myself.

Ooh, it's a good week to spend working around the island as this next week is Bunny Day week! And that is mostly what I did today--worked on trying to figure out my farming area so I can get the crops put back in. I got the card for the shell speaker today. Among the hotel guests was Drift looking for a room, and although I didn't do a VIP room for him I did decide to redo #1 seeing as how a mermaid room really did not suit him. I went for a quick vintage Japanese. I've also discovered in designing I'm not a huge fan of the big partition wall as it makes it so hard to see all of a room.

Bunny week sounds like fun. I cleaned my shells out of all my characters' storage today. I am into autumn on my island and no more summer shells which all the shell DYIs seem to need so I sold most of them.

Also decided to clean out the flowers from their storage and drop them off to the characters with the DYIs that actually could make use of them. In addition to red tulips I am lacking blue hyacinths. Sold at least 200 extra mums and roses!! So made a ton of bells today and didn't need to create any DYIs!!

Bunny week gets old in a hurry but there are some really cute items to craft. If I had not restarted I would have played for a couple of days then remembered and skipped ahead.

Anyway, I didn't have much time but in an effort to collect some water eggs I got some good fish and happened across a couple of tarantulas and caught them (3 for a model and 1 for Flick). I also remembered I still needed a third centipede. I'm also building a stockpile of sturgeon and caught an oarfish.

I found Graham as a tourist and I made a Library vip room for him. I then did some deep sea diving and found a scallop which I traded with Pascal for the Mermaid Closet. Not a bad trade at all. I also bought some new outfits.

I was trying to fish up some water eggs and shoot down sky eggs. A random villager runs up with a card for Bunny Day stuff. The store has some really cute items for the season--maybe I saw them before but I have no memory of them.

I spent some time fixing up the area in front of the Resident Services building.

C.J. was in town so I ordered an anchovy model so they'll quit showing up when I'm cooking as an ingredient to use. I also sold him the bunch of sturgeon and a couple of oarfish.

Nate handed over his photo today. I've been slacking on diving so did one load and got two pearls from Pascal.

I am making good progress on collecting eggs. So far a lot of fun. The fishing is is something I enjoy so I have about 30 water eggs so far. And double that in wood. Lots of sky ones too.

The Bunny showed up Monday and said I need to bring it my eggs. But it is no where to be found today (Tuesday). It also said that if I craft all the DYI egg items I receive then I would get some sort of reward. So I crafted about 10 today but I am not sure if I need to give the crafted items to the Bunny or sell them in Nooks Cranny.

Is the Bunny supposed to show up every day? I played with 3 other of my characters all over a period of 4 hours today but none of them had the Bunny show up today.

I had Gullivar show up and decided to ignore him because I stayed busy with all the egg collecting. Nook's cranny had an egg planter, an egg tree and an egg flag which I decided to get.

I was tied up so instead of creating a VIP room for a wandering character I said to give her a standard room. I felt bad but I got 30 tickets out of it and was able to get more fishing time in.

I started to put a little more effort into decorating my beaches. I added some beach chairs and towels and a few beach balls. I also added a lighthouse at the shoreline on one of the stone areas. I added a few decorations beside the lighthouse and connected a path to it. I added a ferris wheel to my amusement park area. I still don't quite feel satisfied with the amusement park yet, but I'm gonna need some miles if I want to work on it more. At the top shore of my island, I added a tombstone on a stone area, more of a quieter, melancholy area, especially since the music quiets down a bit around there. I really need to find more recipes, they sometimes give me the idea I need to build something new on my island.
