What are some people you used to look up to that are now controversial?

some English VA's (especially Funimation ones) can be controversial one way or another because they were being hostile towards the fans with different opinions and beliefs or people who are genuine fans of the source material they are localizing and sometimes trash on the source material people enjoy.

Best to not trash the source material you were assigned to do an English dub for a job.

Yeah…I guess I wasn’t TOO surprised about Joe bc I assumed he left Impractical Jokers for an affair with a production person. Plus on Instagram he would post reactions to young women’s TikToks. It felt off, but I didn’t look into it. I thought “oh he’s just trying to be funny.” But now I realize why he really left the show….

I’ve actually always hated that show. I just think it terrible and some of those “pranks” are extremely traumatic.

j.k. rowling as i loved the harry potter series as a child. i'm decent at feeling out people so almost everyone i had a bad feeling about were revealed later to be not so good people. another surprising one was i had a teacher who was i thought was kind and cared about the students but later stuff came out, nothing terrible or illegal but made me second guess all the other teachers i've had. you only know one facet of people and it's not necessarily who they are.

I wouldn’t say I looked up to him, but there was this YouTuber named Ali Koca who I used to watch and thought made good content. I stopped once his videos got overly political since a lot of them were obnoxious Trump fanboying. Or rather, hating on people who criticize him because he supposedly isn’t a Trump supporter. I also realized he was a transphobe who kept making fun of the idea of there being more than two genders which didn’t help. There was this drama he got into while I was still watching him and back then I just ignored it, but now that I hate him, I decided to look into it and realized he was even worse than I realized.

The abridged version is as follows: when MrBeast got into a controversy with another YouTuber, Ali started meat riding Jimmy like crazy, refusing to watch the actual video exposing him and just insulting the appearance of the person who made it. He just assumed that it was one of those people trying to start a hate bandwagon against a popular YouTuber. That does definitely happen, but he just came to that conclusion instead of watching the damn video and realizing that MrBeast might not be as perfect as he seems, behavior not unlike children under the age of 10. A 16 year old made a video that was criticizing him for that and a disturbing and sexist video he posted but defending him against claims that he was a pedophile. He looked at the title (which was clickbaity and did say that he was a degenerate and lost thousands of subs, but not that he was a pedo) and without watching immediately assumed she was calling him a pedo. He called her a guy when it’s pretty obvious she was a girl, and even if she was trans he definitely wouldn’t have used the correct pronouns, so he didn’t even try to hide the fact that he didn’t watch the video. Ali tried to sue her over this, and when she made another video talking about this, he took a break for a day and acted like he was actually some kind of grand master and he planned this and used the hate he was getting to boost his ad revenue. He got so much backlash that pretty much every comment on all of his videos were insulting him, and even people who still liked him wanted him to just admit that he was wrong for this. Overall, it’s pretty obvious that he’s a pathetic manchild whose ego is so big that he attacks people, even minors, just for criticizing or disagreeing with him. There’s way more details that I didn’t explain or forgot which make him look even worse, but if you’re really interested there’s tons of videos about it. Nowadays his audience consists of, like, six conservatives because of his constant Trump glazing, which is more reason for me to detest this *******. I’m glad he gets no views.

Edit: I forgot, he’s also a number one YouTube fanboy and Canada hater/Turkey nationalist. At first he said they’re the best social media platform, which is debatable and I wouldn’t say that’s really a compliment. But then whenever they would do anything anti consumer or anti creator, he would defend the decision and act like people are whining for no reason and not mad that YouTube is being stupid and actively against the people keeping them running. He’s acting like this big company deserves to be defended by him when they don’t care about him and nothing would change for them if he didn’t exist. He would also constantly make videos complaining about Canada and saying how Turkey is the best at literally everything because he’s from there. He even said Canada should become the 51st state when Trump brought up that asinine idea and it would fix their healthcare as if America doesn’t have some of the ****tiest healthcare in the world.

I agree. I still like Harry Potter and won’t stop liking the books or movies she wrote before 2020 but I will not be supporting anything she writes after that as my interest in the series started years before she became controversial and I like the Lego Harry Potter sets a lot.

They are or were an anime voice actor for well known shows that was accused of sexual misconduct, but then looking up information on this becomes such a mess.

He is actually from my area. No one ever actually talk about him though. *Edit* I don’t think he even comes back to visit his hometown. I definitely have never seen the guy in town once and I have been in the area my entire life! I’ve literally met no one who has even said that they know him or even went to school with him.

With Whoopi Goldberg, I feel mixed because while I don’t agree with a lot of the political things she has said in recent years, I can’t help but feel schadenfreude whenever she calls out everyone on The View because most of those women (especially that annoying little windbag that won’t shut up called Joy Behar!) won’t shut up and are either extremely irritating to listen to or are total idiots. I was seriously hoping Whoppi would smack that stupid woman Sherri Sheppard for her total stupidity and stupid comments. You can see on Whoppi’s face just how much she wanted to slap Sherri when she said that Jesus predated everything including the dinosaurs. Whoopi just has this glare that says, “Girl, I can’t believe you’re that stupid! If we weren’t on live tv right now, I’d slap you so hard that your grandchildren would feel it!” And I kind of live for that side of Whoppi.
