What are some people you used to look up to that are now controversial?

I know someone mentioned him on this thread, but I used to watch SilverLeagueNetworks a lot because I thought he was interesting and enjoyed watching his Pokemon videos, but then I've read the things he did after he nuked everything and was disgusted with him.

Controversial is not the word I'd use for her, but J. K. Rowling's story was what inspired me to start writing in the first place. After everything she's done it's safe to say that I'm never going to associate myself with her or her content again.

I got ridiculed and shamed for also saying that I didn’t like JK Rowling by people who thought I was hating on “such an inspiring woman who overcame so oppression” “someone who spoke the truth about transgender people.” I tried to tell one guy that his views on trans people were wrong and asked him how he would feel if he was suddenly told one day that he was no longer to express who he was and had to hide who he loved out of fear of being harmed and rejected by society and treated as if he wasn’t even a person and told him that’s what trans people deal with on a daily basis. The guy was still too dense to get it and claimed that he never said that they “weren’t” people even though he wanted to take away the rights of transgenders. I’ll still like Harry Potter and the books and movies and I’ll separate the series from the author but I will not support anything Rowling writes from now on.

Luckily, I stopped looking up to other people in my mid teens. However the only person I can think of right now is Woopi. She was one of my favorite actresses as a kid. Things change and things were said that really didn't seem right as in ethical. I don't know if they were off the cuff but hopefully she will reflect on them at some point if they are even remembered.

I wouldn’t say I looked up to him and really it’s hard to think of any I looked up to so much as just enjoyed their vibe.

But I really liked watching CreepyProduce. All his videos were the same “MkWii but the video ends if X” but he had some funny specific ideas for it and did those in a time that format wasn’t as overdone as it was now. Plus at the time I just really liked that game.

He’s a YouTuber who was posting videos about a children’s game, guess why I stopped watching.

Also I know not to trust rich people but man I thought Snoop Dogg had a fun vibe and now I can never look at him in the same way again : /

Edit: also Iskall, how dare he. At least Hermitcraft is drama-free since. I was browsing MinecraftMemes last night and I had a heart attack seeing Hermitcraft drama in top posts from the last year but then I realised it was just over that incident.

Edit2: Radiohead also took some… interesting stances iykyk.

I can't really think of anyone, but I never really got sucked into any of the online celebrities for places like YouTube, Twitter, Twitch ect. I knew of them, but never really followed or even sat down to watch any of their content. So when news of their controversies emerged I wasn't a fan of any of them. I'm just so far removed from that culture and never got into it.

I just never really followed any celebrity really closely. Heck I still have trouble remembering a lot of their names lol. I mean I have ex-friends and family that I used to respect, but they either showed their true colors over times or something happened that changed them for the worst.

I know he’s not that famous, but it was definitely a let-down for me. In a sea of obnoxious Internet users, I liked low-key YouTubers like him and ReviewBrah/TheReportoftheWeek. (still watch ReviewBrah though) I really didn’t there would be anything in his past.
i don’t mean to ping you on a post that’s kind of old but are you saying reviewbrah had a controversy?? (if i read that correctly)

No. I just mean I was watching him around the same time, since they posted similar content. I still watch Reviewbrah sometimes. Sorry if it came off that way!

Not really famous or anything and I didn't necessarily look up to him from the beginning, but there was this guy I used to be friends(?) with who had a YT channel where he talked about a children's show. I had to block him on Discord because he was making unwanted advances towards me. (It was nothing sexual. He just wanted to hug me on Discord.) He also got into drama with this other person and it's all he ever talks about these days.

There were also Youtubers I used to watch, and then once some person calls them out over something I just stop watching them altogether. I barely use YouTube now (unless I'm looking for music or whatever) because it's too chaotic.

I can't think anyone else off the top of my head. Most of the people I like are pretty fine.

I was also disappointed when I learned the wrestler Nia Jax was anti-vax. For someone who is always in close physical contact with others, I thought this was particularly irresponsible.

I mean…I could go on about some pro wrestlers, but that was my most recent disappointment.

The beauty YouTuber RawBeautyKristi was also disappointing. She was kinda weird to begin with, but I thought maybe I was being judgmental. (Her Guy Fieri makeup video was hilarious, though!) Once she started supporting anti-LGBT stuff and NOT addressing it, all the while making videos about her “dying channel”. Girl…you HAVE to know why no one’s tuning in…and it’s not because you started making pottery.

I just found out Mike Pollock said a bunch of gross stuff and asked others to throw slurs at people : / This one really sucks, he seemed cool when I messaged him on GameFAQs.

Oh yeah, I heard about this a while ago. It’s kind of sad since I liked his earlier roles as Eggman. Now I hope he gets recast.

Currently…Joe Gatto. He was hilarious and I was sad he left Impractical Jokers. But when I found out all this recent stuff, I was disappointed. He’s cancelling his tour, too.

Pretty much every rockstar from bands I like have done/said some pretty controversial stuff. :v There's a lot, but the ones who come to mind are Dave Ellefson, Axl Rose, and the members of Mötley Crüe. I still enjoy their music, though.

Yeah, Axl Rose has always been a bit out there in terms of mental health. I mean he was arrested for biting a security guard in the leg. What kind of person does that? I can understand trying to bite someone in the face, head, or arm areas of the body but the leg? What does he think he is? A dog?

I would not say look up to but I used to really love Trisha Paytas- She isn't a very good person but I found her hilarious growing up. I still follow her stuff from time-to-time! 😂

J.K. Rowling. Love her books, don't love her.

I'm sorry, the recent hUh
