weird insecurity??

my character has pink hair and dresses way more cutesy than me. i see this as my cuter-creative outlet so i’m fine with being different than in-game me : )

a lot of trans/nb/queer folks explore themselves thru digital avatars! i did that a looot as a kiddo on the sims. it's a great, safe way to explore different ways of navigating gender expression. i also recently shaved off my curls bc i can't get a cut during quarantine and "practiced" by giving my acnh character a buzz cut lol.

Nothing wrong with that. I don't have blond hair or green eyes, but that's what I chose for my villager.

My villager looks pretty much the complete opposite of me. At first I felt kind of weird about it because I'd go to my friend's islands and they'd all look similar to their characters and I looked totally different, but now I don't let it bother me anymore! I like dressing my character in hairstyles and outfits I'd never try IRL, I actually find it more fun than trying to make my character match what I really look like.
That beautiful Yuta avatar...

Anyway, OP! I don't look or dress like my avatar either. I'm a boring teacher with a boring teacher's dress sense, while my avatar never met a shade of neon she didn't like and owns like, 40 pairs of shoes. Just LIVE, baby!

I certainly am not a pink-haired princess complex sadist with unlimited amounts of money. My island rep will never me and that is the same for every single game with self-inserts (excluding Sims and adventure RPGs.)

It's not strange to be different in AC. Honestly, it's not right to play as myself in most games. I feel weirded out. If I were to play as a carbon copy as myself, I might create characters that reflects my friends to accompany it. Maybe it's just me but it feels gross (or probs because I look gloomy as hell, I rather not see that.)

nb united!!!
I used to have long curly hair, but because I was tired and wanted to look more androgynous, I cut it very short and straigthen it. It was SO weird so not pick the curly hair. It's been ages that the long curly hair was a staple for me, but it was very cool to change.

The only thing that's similar to myself for my character is gender and sometimes hair length. My hair colour, fashion, everything is all different. None of my irl friends look like themselves either except 1, so I don't think it's that common

I dress my character up in pretty dresses and hot dog suits when all I ever wear irl are tshirts and jeans haha. Just do whatever’s fun!

I dress my character pretty butch because it's hard to dress masculine in real life when you are spherical. Orb shaped -_-

My character looks nothing like me, as he's based on my three-year-old son!

:ROFLMAO:

I figure they gave us so many options so that we can create whoever we want to create.

I mean, my main character is a dude, I'm a girl IRL, so yeah... And when it comes to my two alt characters, who are both girls, then they looking nothing like me, in fact, they both looking much cooler than I would ever look IRL, lol.

It's fine! My brother's Splatoon 2 character looks absolutely nothing like him! It's even a girl.

your character can look however you want it to look - it doesn’t have to look like you irl ;;

I change my main character up depending on my mood. Sometimes she looks similar to me, sometimes I run around as a certain character from a videogame (I made a whole custom dress for that), sometimes she has a different look. Lately I have been trying for a more autumn feel. She ended up with blonde hair and yellow clothes

Go wild! Embrace your fantasy utopia! It's so great that you can completely change your appearance at your leisure in ACNH instead of being stuck with a permanent avatar at initial character creation.

I think it's perfectly fine to look how you wanna look in your game! If you choose to look exactly like yourself, or like a different person entirely, that is okay! That's the beauty of games like this. Freedom. Be who you wanna be! I can't even tell you how many times I've seen people play as OC's, dress up like celebrities or fictional characters that they love, I've even seen people play as Jesus haha!

My character doesn’t really look like me. The eye color isn’t even similar to mine, and there are no hair colors that match mine, and the hair style is comoleteky different from anything I would wear irl. I also made a secondary character who looks even less like me.

You should just create your character in whatever way you like. It definitely doesn’t have to look just like how you do irl.

I’m in the exact same situation! shoulder length hair but i’m NB so my character in game fluctuates, usually with short hair though
