This isn't something I thought too deeply about until recently honestly, but I think it can be a good way to rekindle your motivation for the Animal Crossing series as a whole. Thinking of various things to accomplish can be fun. Some can be short-term, some can be long-term. Some can even lead to, or follow other goals you have.
I have mentioned getting back into New Horizon's predecessors over the past week or so. And I have also thought of some stuff I would like to achieve through all of the games. Some of the goals I have are meant to just be cute and simple, like getting Apollo across all five games (which I have completed). Other goals are more ambitious and long-term, like completing the museums across all five games.
Of course, there are certain reasons why some goals would not apply to ALL five games, such as only playing 1-4 of the games (though I've been playing all five), or not having the means in a specific game to achieve certain goals. I have goals that apply to only a few of the games, for example.
One of my goals is to obtain all of the lovely furniture (since it is my favorite furniture set of all time). However, New Horizons is excluded from this goal, as it is absent in there -- but this goal still applies to all four of its predecessors. Another example is me having a silver tools goal. Silver tools are only in CF and NL, so the other three mainline games are excluded.
I actually even created a Google Document to keep track of my goals. Having something visual to look back on and keep track of your progress enhances the whole journey.
The main goals are colored pink, and under them have each Animal Crossing game as a "sub-goal", if you will. Once the goal is completed for each game, the main goal will be marked complete
I also have addition sub-goals listed under each game sub-goal (for some of my goals). As you can see here, I made it a goal to catch and donate the tarantula and scorpion, due to their difficulty to catch and how they stand out from other bugs (I did the same thing for the bee/wasp) As you can see, I only have caught a tarantula in NH (due to them being out in winter), but if/once I catch a scorpion in NH once Summer rolls around, AC:NH will be marked complete.
Having sub-goals (which are labeled as each mainline game) and even sub-sub-goals for some - can give you a sense of progress.
While a lot of my goals are standard for most animal crossing players (e.g. catch every creature, complete the museum, pay off all house loans, etc.), I also have some goals that are more personal to me and that are based on my favorite things in Animal crossing (villager, special character, fish, bug, furniture set, etc.). For example, one of my goals is to get Apollo's picture across the games that do have villager pictures. AC:GC and AC:CF are excluded due to not having villager pictures (which brings me back to the game exclusion topic).
I actually also have a goal that follows my "pay off all house loans" goal and that is to get specific furniture sets for my rooms.
I prefer the idea of fulling each room with a set of furniture rather than just completely mixing things up. However, I am not opposed to doing a little bit of mixing. For example, I actually plan to have a mix of cute, astronomy, and dreamy furniture for my NH upstairs room when I get it built. I would love to obtain the princess furniture in City Folk eventually, but due to how pricey it is, it being seasonal, and it getting sold out - out of nowhere, I decided to settle for classic furniture for the for the foreseeable future. ^-^
There are other goals I have, but I wanted to just mention and show some of them for now. ^_^
Now, I will sadly confess to being a habitual resetter, which would prevent these goals from getting completed. However, maybe this is just what I need to stray away from that for a while.
So, if you have been doing the same thing, or would like to. I am curious about YOUR goals for the games.
