We All Fall Down

Most of the books I read are long.
In the past month, I've read 42 books. =)

LOL, LOL, and LOL. CONTRADICTION!, and that's impossible. You said you can read 50 pages a day, which I doubt highly anyway. There are 30 days in a month. The books you read, on average, then, are 35 pages long, if we take everything you said as the truth. You really gotta stop being a *CEN-3.0-SORD*ing noob on these forums.
How many movies have you seen in which the characters fall in love at first sight? Hell, not even 10 Things I Hate About You had that and it was based off Taming of the Shrew.

I believe he said 50-100 pages. You might want to mention that instead of taking the lower number for whatever reason.
Okay, the books he read are 35-70 pages long. Those are some damn long books.

Also, I doubt anyone believes anyone who's in school, constantly on the web, and a rather avid gamer can possibly have the time to read that much, so he's either lying or reading picture books, most likely both.
Or you're just desperate to try to put him down?

The Uglies...that's a 35-70 page book? Since when?

Woah, this thread exploded.

:o

I have time to read, as I read extremely fast...but my problem is that I simply can't find anything good to read. Most "teenage" books are too trite and rely (in general), too much on sex to sell. Yet, I've tried reading some "more mature" books. (Get your mind out of the gutter :P), and find that it simply doesn't hold me. I guess I've been spoiled by my favorite show, Stand Alone Complex, a cyberpunk with some philosophy thrown in, with a mature plot, and great characters.

...And none of the lawyer stories are as epic and awesome as Phoenix Wright.

Frankly, I think the Inheritance series are utter trash, with the material borderline plagerism from Paolini, and to top it off, the writing style is plain bad. But I respect the opinions of whoever likes it. After all, this is the internet. (LOL Opinions)

What genre do you prefer to read?

Hmm... I really enjoy a good fantasy story, or some intelligent sci-fi. But really, I'm open to just about anything.

And you're pretty desperate to defend him. Did you even read anything after I said 50 pages a day? I thought I explained how I came up with that number. Maybe I have to haul out a virtual chalkboard for you. He said he reads 50-100 pages a day. There are 30 days in a month. He said he read 42 books in the last month. Haul out a calculator, punch in the equation, and tell me he's not lying about something/everything.

In addition, I said average. That means if he read the Uglies, he'd have to read a good few one-digit-number-of-pages books to get in that 35-70 page average book length for the month.

Cool.

Tell me what that has to do with Snoop's life.
What in that post made you think it had anything to do with Snoops' life/lack of?

I'd suggest Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind. It's similar to Lord of the Rings in some aspects but it is original for the most part. Great ending too.

;)

The fact that it was posted after posts were talking about when people have time to read.

Wasn't I the one always on his case about his reviews?

I see you guys acting pompous unnecessarily and I'm simply saying my opinion. Deal with it.

You used 50 pages. Not 50-100.

There are novels which are 150 pages. Good ones at that. While 42 is a large number and most likely an exaggeration it is entirely possible to read close to that, if not that, number of books in a month.

I didn't even address the 35 pages average statement until you said 35-70.

I've got a huge workload, and so does he, apparently... I said I only have 2 hours of reading time a day, and even then, it's really late at night. If he has time to be an A-student, post reviews, play videogames, and frequent forums all while reading 42 books a month... he must be some kind of superhuman.

Which I obviously doubt.

"He said he reads 50-100 pages a day. There are 30 days in a month. He said he read 42 books in the last month. Haul out a calculator, punch in the equation, and tell me he's not lying about something/everything."

Let's assume he reads 100 pages a day. Let's also assume that each book is 200 pages.

200 * 42 = 8400 pages
8400 / 100 = 84 days

He'd need 84 days in a month to read 42 books, each at 200 pages. As we all know, there are usually 30 days in a month. So let's drag down the amount of pages until we reach the real number of books read / pages per book.

Let's assume he read 20 books, not 42.

200 * 20 = 4000
4000 / 100 = 40

Still doesn't work.

200 * 15 = 3000
3000 / 100 = 30

Perfect. So at 200 pages per book, he could only read 15 books a month. That's assuming he never skips a day and always reads 100 pages, every day. Now, let's assume a different scenario... that the pages / book ratio is smaller. Say, 100.

100 * 30 = 3000
3000 / 100 = 30

So he could read 30 100-page books in a month, 100 pages per day at a time. But since he claims to have read 42 books last month... the (rough) calculation is as follows:

71 * 42 = 2982
2982 / 100 = 29.82

And, take note, this is assuming he reads the MAXIMUM amount of pages he specified... his words were "50 - 100". Average that and we get 75 pages per day. Let's try that, now.

30 * 75 = 2250
2250 / 42 = 53 pages per book

So we come to the following conclusion:

He has read 42 books, with an average of 53 words each in the last month... or he's just lying.

Thank you, and good night.

Or he exaggerated.
42 is an awfully precise number.
Not really.

Actually, not at all.
Alrighty, then. So we can agree that it was some random number he pulled out of his butt.

...Hence, a lie. No other way around it. An exaggeration is basically a lie.

No. That's not even close to anything I said. An exaggeration is an overstatement. Not a lie.

It's not even a synonym to "lie"

OK, fine. It's a half-truth... since it's true that he read some books, but obviously not as many as he said.

A half-truth is a lie. End.

No, but they are in the same category, which is, not telling the truth.
