Mine was Eugene! I wonder if this has anything to do with airport color, etc. Maybe these random move ins really aren't so random at all! Reading the initial post about Truffles made me recall that my friend with a different airport color also got truffles as the first campsite visitor. Interesting!

Yup, weirdly enough I got a smug hamster. Was initially not a fan of Graham but he grew on me. Glasses on him look adorable and he is chill

I restarted a few weeks ago and got Henry, who's a smug. I can't remember what I did exactly the first time, but I do remember time travelling forward for the lazy, peppy and normal villagers to move in due to being impatient lol. I think I probably time travelled up until I got the campsite built, then time travelled back to my current day and I feel like that may have been why I didn't get a smug? Time travelling backwards sort of breaks the game sometimes and it gets confused...
On my new island I decided not to do that and just kept time travelling forward and got a smug like you're supposed to. Not sure about the other people who got another personality other than smug but that's what I assume happened to me.

I’m not sure if I time traveled until I had to later on in the game. That is an interesting theory, though!
Anyway, here is the screenshot I was talking about. Here, Tom Nook is referring to Truffles (who was previously pictured with the smug dialogue).

I’m guessing the game is coded to have a high chance of your first villager being a Smug but it’s not 100%.
Kinda like how if your island is missing a personality type after your first camper and someone visits your campsite they have a 60% chance of being the personality type you are missing.
