Villagers who left moving back?

So I spent the majority of yesterday trying desperately to find someone who would let me talk to Drake. Drake was one of my original five, but due to a horrible TT'ing accident, packed up without warning and without giving me a chance to get him back. After about nine hours and seven message boards I found someone who had Drake packed up.

But when I got to that person's town, Drake refused to move to mine. This happened:

After that, he would only repeat:

No matter how much I talked to him, he would only say those things. The host was really gracious. He let me leave and re-enter the town about 3 times to see if talking to Drake again would trigger a different dialogue, but he never offered to move even after me continuously talking to him for 30 minutes.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? Should I just give up having Drake in my town again as a lost cause? Can villagers who leave come back as campers or randomly have a new plot in town? Do you have to convince them from another town?

Furthermore, is it necessary to have a villager packed in order to convince them to leave? Can you convince a villager to leave just by talking to them without them being packed or having triggered the move out timer? I tried this once with someone who didn't want one of his wolves, but the villager never offered to leave for my town.

Thanks very much for taking the time to read all this!

i honestly don't know about the if old villagers can move back in thing but

it seems like to me drake is already moving to another town?? like maybe someone talked to him before and the owner didn't know. unless that's what all moving out villagers say.

i've never had this problem because i've never tried to get a villager back. but i don't think you should give up!
and it's not possible to make a villager leave with you unless they're moving

i hope you somehow get him back though!

Thanks for the wishes, I appreciate it!

But no, I asked the host and he said that no one else had spoken to Drake. That dialogue doesn't come up when you convince other villagers either: I convinced Bella to move to my town the first time I spoke to her and she immediately asked what my town was like. Different dialogue entirely.

Your game stores old character data for some time before you can get the character again. I heard that it stores your last 16 villagers who moved out.

Soo.... it might be a while till you can get him again, but you can one day.

It makes sense for the game to do that, because imagine you have Phoebe (random example) moving out and then a few days later you get a new villager and it's Phoebe. XD

You're right, that would be weird ^_^U

But how does that work, though? Would 16 villagers have to leave in order for Drake to have a chance to return? For example, I'm trying to get two characters to leave (hence the TT'ing fiasco). Say they do leave. Would Drake then have a chance to return? Or would more have to leave?

The worst thing just happened today due to time traveling. Fauna is now packed up. I hope what you say isn't true.

My condolences! This is partly why I'm posting this. There seems to be so little definitive info on the game; I wanted to put my experience with screenshots somewhere if it could be helpful for anyone. I do hope you can get Fauna back!

Yeah, this is horrible, she was one of the my dream villagers. The only good thing (possibly) is that I may be able to get one of my other dream villagers because I know Fauna is very popular.

What I don't understand is that I was very careful time traveling. I made sure to find my villagers and walk in front of them, but Fauna never said anything about moving.

I imagine that there's a queue list and you have to overwrite his data in your game (by making a lot of villagers move until he's pushed back further and further). But I'm still early in my own game. Only two of my villagers have moved out and I heard this from another source.

darkfire: I think there's a risk of that happening even if you don't TT. Some villagers just seem to quietly move out. >.< Scary.

Oh man, that's horrible ;_; Best of luck getting her back, again!

You know, something similar happened to me. I was time-travelling between Thursday and Saturday. I would talk to villagers on my return trip, talk to everyone I saw outside and I used the megaphone. If no one pinged me to move, I'd try again to Saturday and back to Thursday. I always made sure to talk several times to talk to my favorites on the return trip (Drake, Diana, Rolf, Ankha) just to be sure. None of them ever mentioned moving, nor did they talk about other villagers moving.

I specifically remember talking to Drake before going to Saturday several times and he never said a word. But on booting up my return trip, Isabelle tells me he's packed up!

Granted, I'll admit, I may not have been as careful as I should have been. I tried to talk to my villagers often, but maybe I could talked more to him, or not have gone back and forth as much as I did. Maybe I should have talked to them in the future as well.

Regardless, this experience has made sure I'll never TT. Not that I have anything against people who do, because everyone should their game as they see fit, but clearly I can't do it properly and there's no point doing something I can't do properly.

Whoa, whoa, this can happen? Villagers can stealth move? That is super scary! I've always heard villagers gave you four days to a week's warning before moving. What if, say, I put the game down for a few days, weeks, months? Is there a chance some villagers will be gone when I pick up the game? That's always been a secret worry of mine.

This sucks. And if you have to time travel to get overwrite the save data like Lin said then that opens up more chance for one of my other villagers to stealth move out. I don't think I'm ever getting Fauna back.

You don't need to time travel for it... that just makes it faster. x.x

Well, yes, but it will take forever for that to happen. And then then after that finally happens I have to deal with finding someone who has Fauna and she's really popular so you have to give up your best villagers usually. Unless I try the campsite trick.

Thanks for all the replies; this is really interesting information!

I wonder, though: more than four have to move out, right? When I was TT'ing, I got Gabi to move out, which was one thing I wanted. Drake moved out, by accident, too. Ideally, I would like Lyman and Tangy to move out, too. That makes four. So if one more moved out, then I would have a chance at getting Drake again? Or is it 4+ not counting the target villager you want to return? Would the fact that Drake was one of my starting five affect this calculation in anyway?

If I understand this correctly, though, I guess the situation isn't quite so dire. I mean, the wait is very long, but it does give me hope and a goal for later on.

lol, not unless you ignore your villagers, when someone wanna move the other villagers will keep telling you about it until they move.

Hopefully the villagers I want to move out actually move out so I can get Fauna back faster. On the bright side of all this, I will be getting Fang from Niya, who was one of my dream villagers (I just wanted any of the cranky wolves really). Still, I'd much rather have Fauna back.

This is very interesting,
how far are you guys time traveling for them to be stealthy moving out?

Hope you guys get your villager back eventually though!

It's not a matter of how far you time travel, it's how much I think. I was just time traveling forward one day and then right back and doing that over and over again.
