Villagers that are way too overrated

There are some villagers that are widely loved, but why? Why do some villagers get so much love when they don't deserve it? Are there any you can think of?

im waiting for the marshal, julian and stitches comments lol. i love marshal and stitches so im not gonna say anything about them
merry. she just looks so derpy to me lol.
chrissy. she looks like pitiful chihuahua and doesn't really impress me as much as francine for some reason.
cookie also makes me think of chrissy !!
tangy. ugg she looks... um, weird to me. i don't know why but she just unsettles me

Two popular villagers that sort of bug me are Flurry and Marshal. They suffer from an ailment which plagues a few other villagers, especially a number of cat villagers, which is the lack of a nose in an attempt to make them appear cuter. Rather than finding this cute, this actually bugs me because it's a distracting design choice. I'm able to look past it for some villagers like Ankha, but I think the reason it especially rubs me the wrong way with Flurry and Marshal is because I don't find them all that remarkable and they're so popular. Marshal I can understand on some level why there's a large number of people who like him, but Flurry is worse because she has that flesh colored muzzle which just makes it stand out. She just plain looks weird and I don't see why people find her cute.

Another villager who seems to be popular but that I don't like much at all is Skye. Her light blue fur is nice, but she has goofy eyes. I greatly prefer Vivian and especially Freya when it comes to female wolves.

That reminds me, Whitney bothers me. I was once a fan of her design and adopted her into one of my towns. It didn't take too long for me to be distracted by the fact that her eyes are always looking off to the side and as such she only ever looks nice when viewed in profile/from the side so you only see half of her face.

Don't see the appeal of the top tier cats like Lolly, Felicity, Punchy, and Rosie. That said, I like Ankha due to her unique Egyptian design and I like Bob because he's purple and that's my favorite color.

Can see the appeal of Tangy but not a fan of her, Chadder, Ketchup, or Merengue. As much as I prefer unique designs, I just don't like the food villagers enough to have one in a town.

Don't see much to like in Chrissy and Francine other than that they're a matching pair. The designs don't do anything for me.

As for what makes villagers more popular? General consensus on cuteness and some people liking villagers because they're popular, which feeds into the cycle.

Skye is a weird wolf, all the rest of the wolves have a sleek design except her, she looks like she's adopted.
I don't like either Chrissy or Francine, but Chrissy has a 'inbred chihuahua' look.
I don't like the no nose either, just stick a tiny nose in would be better than none.

Goldie: again, I just don’t see the “cuteness” that people constantly talk about. i don’t see the appeal in dog villagers overall though...
Julian: he’s....okay. don’t see the appeal in him, definitely not a character I’d go crazy for.
Agent S: I don’t see the appeal in her at all... the superhero characters are not my style at all, and she definitely gets WAY annoying

I don't like Ankha's expression. I'd love her if she were smiling, but I don't like how she looks so annoyed.

Cookie. I don't like her giant blackhole eyes.
Ketchup. She was my first Amiibo card that came with my game. Red is one of my favorite colors, but I felt like she kind of clashed with everything.
Poppy. One of my very first villagers or my very first town. (I've only ever played NL). I just found her kind of boring. There's so many squirrels I prefer, and so many normals I prefer. Her design and her personality seem bland.
Bunnie. I also dislike her eyes.

zucker is unsettling. i can kinda get marina bc she has cute eyelashes and blush, but zucker is pale yellow with a flesh colored.... nozzle on his face. yuck. plus it?s like he got stabbed in the head with something?? 0/10

I actually like a lot of popular villagers, because most of them have really interesting designs and / or are pleasing to look at. I feel like one of the main reasons people don't like popular villagers are because they're popular, but I'm not going to criticize anyone else's dislikes.

I will say I'm not sure why Chrissy is as popular as she is; her eyes are kind of weird and I don't like her color scheme at all. Being a twin with another villager is cool though, I'll give her that.

most of the tier 1 villagers imo are not visually pleasing

i can't judge their personalities because marshal says the same thing Eugene does and Eugene isn't that popular. So i feel like I can't judge him based off his personality.

Although looks wise there's just tons of tier 1 "popular" villagers that are overrated to me based on their looks.

Maple... she's so plain and boring
Marshal he's just ugly and where is his nose?
Tangy??? she's bothered me since she showed up in my gamecube town
Skye doesn't even look like her wolf counterparts in the game i think it's her eyes
Ruby is demonic looking
Coco albeit her design is unique but the ruined her with the normal personality

tons of the popular ones are overrated in my opinion but ?\_(ツ)_/?

I don't really like the wolf ones and don't get why all the wolves are so popular, but I'm not the biggest wolf person in general... I have a friend who is so I guess I can get that. I also don't really like Julian ;-; His eyes are just kind of droopy and he isn't particularly pleasant to look at imo until you realize he's a unicorn... but that doesn't suddenly make him cuter looking
