Is it true that villagers will eventually move without warning? i know this used to happen in WW and CF after a long period of time, and it used to crush me, so im scared :(
I never TT, and talk to them everyday

I don't know exactly but someone was going to give me Chief and said that he moved with out him knowing.

Whenever someone's thinking about moving out the animals you're friendly with will be like "HEY YOU KNOW [insert villager here] IS THINKING OF MOVING SO IF YOU WANNA STOP THEM I THINK YOU STILL CAN"

If you talk to them every day they won't leave without any warning. c:

Yes, I've read those accounts, too. But truth be told, we don't really know the full story or if it's being reported accurately. That may be happening, but until we get some actual verification that this can happen, all we have are reported experiences that may not be telling the whole story. I'm not saying anyone is actively lying about it (though on an anonymous forum that certainly is well within the realm of possibility), but there may be details missing from the reports that would explain everything beyond just villagers just mysteriously vanishing without warning.

I've been told that Canberra is thinking about moving, and I do try to remember talk to all my villagers everyday. Two of my other villagers have told me she is moving, but she hasn't said a word about it. I've talked her ear off today to get her to tell me because I want her to stay until I have her picture.

Basically what will happen is regardless of how much you interact with a villager (as long as it's not within a few days of them moving in) a random date will be calculated - for examples sake let's say today 7th August - where they announce that they're planning to move in a few days - they'll say something like '#said village# is making me soft' or 'i'm not feeling people understand me'. If you do not see them PING on the 7th then the default answer will be that you agree to them moving and then they move out within a week.

However there are hints that this has happened, another villager will say '#villager is planning on moving, perhaps you should talk to them' then try talking to said villager and even if you've manually agreed to their suggestion of moving out on the 7th you can still correct this as they'll state again that they're moving. If you say once again; go ahead and move then this can cause them to randomly move out.

In my 2nd town I've had villagers move without warning. They either didn't "ping" or the other villagers wouldn't say anything. I've lost about 3 villagers through a lot of TT without warning. But it's not very likely, in my experience. It's pretty easy to get the warning if you play normally every day and get a chance to speak to everyone.

Well, I wish Canberra would tell me so I can correct the issue...I would be sad if she left without giving me her picture. I already have three pictures...why couldn't it have been one of them?

When did the villagers start hinting that she might be moving? Sometime between the date she would have pinged you and told you of her plans and the day she actually packs, she should bring it up again if you speak to her enough times.

A few weeks back Flurry told me she was going to move. I initially said okay and she confirmed that she was moving and set a date. Then later in the week we're talking and she brings up the fact that she's moving in four days and really should think about packing. At that point I asked her to stay and she called off her move.

Unless you've missed something, there should still be time for you to talk to Canberra and get her to change her mind. Don't stop trying. However, if after a few times of trying to make her mention the move and she doesn't mention it, let it go until later. After a few hours, try talking to her again. She might bring it up.

This happened to me. Deirdre moved out without warning (or at least that is how it seemed). At first I didn't think it was possible, but now I think I know why and how this happened.

I speak to Deirdre every day, but sometimes real life gets in the way and I don’t play ACNL for a day or two. After my brief (two day) break from the game, I made sure that I went to each villager to talk to them. I spoke with Deirdre THREE times over two days. I usually speak with her more often, but you know how it goes, some villagers have busy days when they aren't in the main town a lot. So, on these days I spoke with her while she was fishing, while in The Roost and another while she was at The Emporium shopping. Big mistake.

My theory? When villagers are shopping (or doing anything on Main Street), or fishing, or at The Roost, etc., they are in a robotic droid-like mode where they don't interact normally or the same. They just repeat the same thing over and over. They most likely aren't able (programmed) to warn you that they are leaving while in this mode, which is why I missed her warning.

Now that I think back, I spoke to her in this mode for two days, plus the two days of not playing most likely caused her to leave. Also, perhaps the villager that I cannot stand and avoid (Moe) was the one who would have warned me, but I didn't give him the opportunity to do so.

So, this is my theory and the only way that I can make sense of a villager moving without warning. Had she stopped me (or I stopped her) while walking around the actual town over those couple of days, this wouldn't have happened. It just so happened that Deirdre was having a busy couple of days and in a mode that doesn't warn when approached.

Lesson learned. When you speak to villagers daily to make sure they don’t move, know that they must be in ‘normal’ mode and not occupied by shopping, fishing, etc. And, even if you have a villager that you don’t like, speak with them anyway… they may be the only one who knows that another villager is leaving. Had I known, I would have made a better attempt to speak with her when I found her outside of what I call that ‘robotic’ mode.

Again, this is just a theory.

Yeah, Canberra has to "ping" you in order for her to tell you about her moving plans. I don't think that going up to her and talking to her will trigger the dialogue. She has to go up to you. Just do something like swimming or staying away from her, and every few minutes, check on her. When a villager is set to move, their moving dialogue is given the highest priority, so if she pings you, she won't talk about changing her catchphrase or PWPs. She'll definitely mention moving.

Can't you save and quit a few times, and go back on to see if she pings? :)
Forgive my ignorance! What does this mean?

Oh, yes, I get it (triple tasking at work here). I should have done that with my villager who left. Not sure why I thought talking with them while they were 'busy' counted. :(

I think she might have pinged me yesterday while I was in the middle of a conversation with another character. I really don't remember because I have memory problems anyway (one of the symptoms of a possible fibromyalgia diagnosis). I hope she does say something more. I know when I talked to Ricky after I told him he could move, he mentioned it almost every time.

I've found that when a villager tells me that someone wants to move the moving villager doesn't always ping that day but sometimes the next day?

Interesting theory from Sowelu though!!! I've always wondered about that and it would make sense!!!

Okay so one of my villagers was telling me Stinky was moving away out of nowhere!
I didn't want stinky moving out just yet so I quit and reloaded again and kept waiting for Stinky to ping me!
And when he did, I stopped him from moving away.

So even if you didn't get a notice from the villager, you can keep trying to get him/her to ping and tell you!

Yay!!! I used the swimming technique that everyone has been using to get PWPs to get her ping on me again. It worked and I talked Canberra into staying for a while :D

Could anyone help me? I can't find Puddles and it's been 3 days!!! I don't want her to move without warning, so I must find her. Has anyone else had problems finding villagers?

Have you checked all the displays in the museum? Usually if a villager can't be found at home or wandering around town or in any of the shops, they're at the museum.
