It seems very difficult to find any solid information on villagers moving out, and how to trigger this.

Are any of the below confirmed facts, or is it just guesswork:

  1. Villagers can only ask to move between 12 - 4. Someone said this in another thread, but I haven't seen anything official. Has anyone had a villager ask outside of this hours?
  2. Ignoring villagers causes them to move out. Some people claim this works, but I tried and the ones I spoke to more seem to ask instead of the ignored ones.
  3. Hitting them with nets causes villagers to move out.
  4. Complaining about villagers causes villagers to move out. This feature seems to be to change inappropriate clothing or phrases rather than moving them out.
  5. If they keep falling into pitfall seeds they move out.
  6. Talking to them too much causes them to move out.
  7. They can only ask to move out 15 days after the last person asked.
  8. Talking to them too much or ignoring them entirely can cause them to stay.
  9. Ignoring them when ill can cause them to move out.
  10. It is completely random when they ask to move out and there is no method that works other than amiibo, campsite or heavy TT

Can anyone help me by giving their thoughts on the points they have knowledge on?

#2, #3, #4 doesn't work. sorry that's all a bunch of BS. never was the case for new leaf, and not here as well. i've had a lot of friends ignore the villagers they want to move out, and STILL it's their closest friends that asks. from my experience, this was the case too, even tho 9 out of 10 of my villagers are villagers i'd plan to keep for a while.

#9 is interesting though. i won't be that mean omg. but maybe if i had harry & so desperate to get rid of him, i'd go down that road.

the last villager that asked to move out was cheri who i got the best friend achievement with. she asked to move out at midnight

ive had a villager ask me to move out right after 5am!
I usually play between 7am-10am and 6pm-10pm, and I had Wendy ask to move out during those time periods so I'm pretty sure #1 isn't true. :) I wish we had some sure fire mechanics to know... And I have my own theories but I don't want to add to the rumor mill! I can at least debunk #1!

yeah i'm with them as well for #1, not really sure about the time period because it's always random i get them very early or really late. but for some reason those "tricks & tips" for certain move out mentions a specific time. maybe for those tricks it works because it's more common for those times?

As someone who heavily TTs to cycle out villagers I'm going for number 10 being the truth, believe me I've tried a lot of methods but the only one that seems to work (other than the amiibo force which i'm not touching until it's confirmed patched) is TTing day by day and waiting for the thought bubble.

I will say I've never had someone ask to move the next day after someone else pinged me and I denied their request.

7 I know for a fact as untrue as I’ve had villagers ask to move out within days of each other. So far I’ve only had success with heavy TT + ignoring

It all sounds like complete speculation and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was all false. I can confirm that 1 isn’t true because Bunnie asked about moving this morning at about 10:30am.

What I've been doing primarily is TT'ing a year (yeah I know, loads of weeds) but before time traveling, I talk to as many of my villagers as I can at least once. I found 12-5pm to be the best time to trigger a villager wanting to move, just because more villagers are out and about during those hours, and the event doesn't trigger when they're indoors. The game chooses who is going to ask to move for that given day I think, and if they're indoors during the time you're on, another villager (who isn't in their home) won't ask to move in their place, you kinda just have to get lucky with the time you chose, or just keep going up or back an hr until the villager who is meant to ask to move for that day - leaves their house. It's all so tedious to say the least..

10 is the only true one there. Even friends will ask to leave and its basically a roulette

basically some people claim that ignoring villagers cause them to move out because of chances. let's say those who said ignoring works for them are 1 out of 15 players who say that their close friends ask them to move out. it's basically RNG.

I don't think #7 is true. Iggly asked to move within a week of bangle wanting to move.

1. untrue, they can ask to move at any time they're awake
2. either untrue or has an extremely insignificant impact
3. untrue
4. your assumption is right.
5. untrue
6. untrue
7. untrue. The minimum number of days passed between move out requests is unclear at the moment, it can be anywhere from 4-20 days
8. well, if you decline all move requests, then techinically this is true, I guess?
9. never thought of this but I have extreme doubts that this will make them more likely to move out
10. yep, you nailed it

I think the reason why some people recommend 12 pm to 4 pm because majority of the villagers are outside so it's easy to check if any of them pinged.

I can tell you #1 is wrong right off the bat because as soon as I booted my game up today (7:45am) Audie asked me to move.

I use #7 from a guide posted here not too long ago and it works almost every time, between the hours of 12 - 3pm, which is when most of them are outside. TT different days might yield the same result but when I'm looking to get someone out specifically, I TT 15 days, skipping rainy and event days and almost always see a bubble from someone.

Hitting, complaining and ignoring them doesn't do anything imo.

Edit to add that amiibo is the easiest way to get someone out but if you want an open slot, either TT or playing it day by day to get a ping.

Thanks everyone for the tips - especially those who debunked certain theories with their own experiences. I'm glad it's not time locked as I work during the hours that the rumour stated!

Yeah, there's large YouTuber like TagBackTv that have done nothing but spread the rumors from Reddit. A lot of them are called out for it and they never fix's their stuff allowing people to keep following their lies.
